I m watching matches through a website and my laptop understands this situation to be inactive. It s kind of anoying... When I do it in windows, it s not happening, I guess because windows detects I m watching a video. This is happening in both firefox and chromium. Is there anywere to make this not to happen?

I use my PC strictly at home, and have no security issues. I've set my username to no-password so that I just click [twice] to log back on. But I must do that to see the screen display - say to see what's playing on Pandora.
Can I set the auto-logout-time somewhere or disable the function?

I've just watched a video (on the Australian ABC web site: [URL] with the video at [URL] from inside Firefox (3.0.15), and now my Linux (8.0.4) display is mangled.The entire display is moved left and up about 2 inches on a (I think) 15 inch screen. In the vertical direction it is "wrapped" so I can still see my toolbar. It is not wrapped in the horizontal direction, so there is a black bar down the right hand side of my screen. It is as if the wrong screen size is saved.
This isn't just in my desktop environment - it goes wrong as soon as I boot into Ubuntu Linux. But my monitor itself is OK - the display is correct in GRUB and Windows.Since the problem does not go away on reboot (or power down), I assume some file has been corrupted. Where would that file be and how would I fix it?
I have Ubuntu 11.04 on a Dell Studio XPS 1640 with ATI graphics and the fglrx driver. It's a powerful machine and I've had no problem what so ever to watch full hd videos on windows 7 but all videos, no matter the resolution, has a very small stutter which is annoying but not making the videos unviewable. But I'd prefer not having it at all. I have tried setting the VLC video output to x11 but there is no difference. It's a screen tearing problem, that was fixed by setting the option "Tear Free" on in ATI Catalyst Control Center.

This includes both classic and 5th generation Ipods as well. Ibulk is a command-line only program but incredibly easy to use and runs off FFmpeg with AAC functionality. The program comes with a Read Me file which will explain its options and instructions in concise detail. Ibulk converts several videos in its input folder to the desired H.264 or XviD video encoding to its output folder. All videos are created in mp4 format with 160Kbps 48000Hz audio sound quality (highest setting an Ipod can handle) and both video encoders at the highest bitrate an Ipod can handle with the exception of some videos which will be auto-adjusted to meet the Ipod's requirements. Ibulk is written in the native unix/linux language and so it should work on any linux distro.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an ATI 4650 HD and using flgrx via jockey, on 10.10.X becomes unresponsive when I play flash videos inside a browser. The image freezes, and the audio track loops, with a loop length of around 0.5 seconds. The only thing I can is reboot my computer. The xorg log file contains no indication that something went wrong. The last entries in it are the monitor display modes.
I cannot switch to the open source ATI driver, as my monitor screen goes blank after booting.I have tried a fresh system install, but that hasn't worked either.
If I watch a video on YouTube, the browser crashes when I try to change to another webpage. Typically, the video will play through but a few have crashed midway. It always crashes on changing the webpage after a video starts (whether it finishes first or not). There is no error message. I have searched the forum for 'iceweasel crash' and didn't see anything quite matching my own problem. I did look at related posts and none of them solved my problem. I'm not sure if the videos are HTML5 or flash. Perhaps a mix of both.
There's no problem with browsing regular pages, even if they have video advertisements in a sidebar. This seems to only be happening on YouTube. I have turned off all browser extensions and plugins with no improvement.
I've searched the internet and seen where there was a security problem with Flashplayer a month ago and the symptoms (if hacked into) sound similar to what's happening to me but I am using the latest version of Iceweasel and this bug is supposed to be fixed.
My Debian install is only about a week old and was a clean install to a formatted partition. I've added a few minor apps since install but nothing that would effect this. I also installed nVidia's proprietary graphics drivers. I can watch dvd movies, MP4's, .flv files, etc with no problems.
I setup a download directory on my server, and put a test video in it. I tried to run the video in my browser and it only runs part of the video then stops. If I download it and run it on my desktop with mplayer it run the full video. I am not sure why? Here is a link to the video. [URL]. I am using 11.4 with Gnome3 and multimedia pack.When playing flash videos in the browser if I click fullscreen, the video plays full screen behind the browser window. It does not happen always and it has not happened with ..... yet.

I just recently found out that you can also stream music if you direct the web address to a folder inside the directory. The problem is when i try to click on a .avi all it wants to do is download the video instead of playing it in the browser or playing it in windows media player. What can I do to make an .avi to stream from my linux machine ( note this is for private use only so i can stream movies on my lunch break or when I am at a friends house this is not to share my stuff to the general public)

Not always, I recently saw a 2 hr long movie on Blue Ray resolution, so the problem is not hardware, it's software. View 1 Replies View RelatedMy bluetooth devices disconnect after a period of inactivity (not sure exactly how long). They're being connected with:
sudo hidd --connect
And I've made no edits to any bluetooth related system files so it should be default settings throughout. I would like them to stay connected indefinitely and it would be even better if they would stay connected through reboots.
I'm using Lucid and after a few minutes of inactivity the system goes into the Lock Screen status also available under the shut down icon. now I don't like the screen to be blocked mainly cause when I get back I've to type again my password everytime. Under Karmic the screen used to go into a sleep status but it only needed a touch of the mouse in order to come back....

Noticed an odd item that was once an peculiar and has now become an annoyance.If I leave my computer for, say 5 minutes, and I bring virtualbox back up, i am presented with a login screen. However, i can't login as my keyboard does not work. Mouse works fine. Can't login, so I have to close out.
I looked at my power management settings within 10.10 and everything is off. no power saving. Ubuntu 9.10 has power management, but these do not appear to affect virtualbox. I have a 15 minute monitor turnoff, with disks running until 2 hours. If I leave for 5 minutes, monitor is on, but Ubuntu 10.10 within virtualbox wants a login.
We have two types of servers RHEL5 and RHEL4 as well as Fedora 11 desktops.
After a period of inactivity, trying to exit from "su - <username>" causes the system to hang for about 10 minutes. It takes that long before the prompt comes back. Here are a few items that noticed as I have tried to trouble shoot this problem. The prompt always comes back if you wait long enough It only happens on RHEL 5. RHEL4 and Fedora 11 are unaffected It does not appear to matter what other software is running. Some boxes have databases, others do not It happens to boxes in run level 3 as well as boxes in run level 5 It does not matter if logging in from the console (tty) or from ssh (pts). Both types of logins produce the same result.
It does not matter if the account is an LDAP or a local account. It takes between 30 min and 1 hour of inactivity before the problem occurs Other sessions on the box are completely unaffected. Once hung, I can still log in with a different session without a problem top shows no load while session is hung there are no messages in /var/log/messages, /var/log/secure, /var/log/audit/audit.log or in dmesg if a session is killed, finger shows that it is still logged in a putty log shows that the server is still sending "keep alives" to putty while the session is hung Only su is affected. There is no problem logging out of the box from the initial login account. what I can try in order to trouble shoot this?
It's getting really annoying now. If I leave the netbook idle for like 2 mins it will lock the keyring and ask me to log back in.
Is there any way I can disable this?
I've paired a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my machine using the Gnome bluetooth wizard and the keyboard and mouse work fine. Then, if I let the computer sit for a few hours and then try to use the keyboard or mouse, nothing happens. When paired with my windows machine, and I start using the keyboard and mouse after a hour or two, the keyboard takes a second or two to start working again. I suspect that it turns itself off, and then has to reconnect, and that in Linux, the reconnection isn't working properly. I've found other instances on the forums of people with the same symptoms, but never any clear answers. Does anyone know what's going on?
