Banshee is, at seemingly random intervals, emptying any playlist I have imported (as .pls generated by Rhythmbox). The playlists I build in Banshee directly are not suffering this emptying problem. (There is one imported playlist, of some 30+, which has not yet emptied but I see nothing special about it.)
View 1 RepliesI am going through the motions of migrating from Rhythmbox to Banshee so that I can field questions about the process as Banshee takes over for Rhythmbox in Ubuntu. I have solved a silly issue about importing playlists (they must be imported from /home/username/ or you must alter the paths in each entry). But there is another issue which I am at a loss to explain.
My playlists are like mixed tapes. They are in a specific order. When I import a playlist into Banshee that order is not preserved. I have checked the files and they are definitely ordered and numbered in the playlists just as they are in Rhythmbox, but Banshee refuses to import them with the order respected regardless of the smallness of the list.
What's going on and how can I correct this?
I'd rather not have to reconstruct all of these playlists.
Once every, say, 12 hours of use, I find that the mouse cursor spontaneously becomes unresponsive. The rest of the system is fine, and it responds to the keyboard, but the mouse does nothing. I'm pretty sure this isn't a problem with the mouse itself, because when it happens I've tried unplugging the mouse and plugging in a different one, and the problem persists. The problem doesn't seem to be correlated with any particular program or type of activity. I realize that this probably isn't much to go on. The next time it happens, is there at least anything I can do by way of diagnosis?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded to Natty and I'm having a fairly annoying issue with Gnome and Fluxbox. There will be random intervals where I'll hit the enter key and my desktop environment will just quit out without any warning. Now this is becoming a huge nuisance because I use time tracking software for work and I essentially lose time because once the environment crashes, the time is not saved.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI used to be able to sync my music with HTC Hero and Banshee, but when I upgraded to 2.1 quite a while back banshee seems to crash. I now have a Nexus One (Android 2.2) and that does the same. (no longer have the Hero). They both seem to crash Banshee when it gets to syncing the playlists (every time), music syncs fine. Does anyone else on 2.1 or 2.2 have this problem or is it just me? (been doing searches every now and then since the Hero update but cant find anything).

What's bugging me is that at random intervals, my screen shuts off while the laptop is still running, forcing me to hard reset.

At random intervals the video output is turned off for 2 - 3 seconds giving a black screen. (I suspect the 2 - 3 second blank time is how long it takes the monitor to recover after a loss of input signal.) The interval between events can vary from 1 minute to an hour to more than a week, and recently more than a month. Sometimes I get several per hour; other times not for two weeks. Hmm, there was a kernel update in the last week or so.At one time the cause was pointed at a USB driver problem since a number of USB log entries occurred at the same time as the screen blanking. That is not the case here;here is nothing in </var/log/messages> (or the dmesg output) that is anywhere near when a screen event happens.
I am running a headless Ubuntu 10.04 server with the 2.6.32-28-generic kernel. For what I can figure out no single direct cause I get a high load average and the following syslog output at random intervals. Generally the load average will drop back down to normal however the kernel errors will still continue What little I have been able to find has pointed to memory issues. I am not totaly convinced this is the cause as the server will be showing >50% free when the errors are happening.

My Trash applet always shows that there are 2 items in the trash can.
Its driving me insane.
I tried sudo rm -fr /home/*/.local/share/Trash to no avail.
Where is the trash folder in karmic? I had to create the Trash folder in home first.
Has it been moved from the /home tree?
Evolution Mail I have a bunch of messages from last August stuck in the Deleted box. Other deleted messages are emptying ok. how I can get rid of them? I do a regular back-up and restore but they just won't go away.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using Evolution, latest version for Linux. For some reason, I can't get the deleted items folder in the mail view to expunge. Is there some reason why emptying the trash suddenly doesn't work? It worked for the first few days of using Evolution, but now it just doesn't work -- the deleted items just stay there.
Here's the error message:

How to deal with this error. The folder that this refers to does exist, so I dont know why I'm getting this error when I try to empty my trash in Evolution.

My son left for the Air Force Academy and when he left he told me and I was on my own so I am doing my best to learn. Everything was going fine but today I encountered a problem.
When I tried to empty my trash in the Evolution Mail program, I encountered this error message:

I googled the error and found this solution:
I first used Evolution File > Backup Settings. Then I went to my .evolution/mail/local and deleted all files that had an extension of:
.index
.cmeta
but NOT .data
When restarted it takes a few minutes to rebuild. Then I was able to successfully delete everything in my trash folder. I have looked and looked and I cannot find the .evolution/mail/local folder. How to get to it. Or perhaps am I using the wrong corrective action. If that is the case, then what should I do.
I'm looking for a script that copies a random .jpg from a random folder in my ~/Pictures folder to my ~/temp folder with a standard filename. This file will then be displayed in Conky. I can fix the last part, but I cannot find a way to do the first part.

Its been great but after a recent server crash I decided to switch to apt-cacher-ng due to reports of lower memory footprint and faster response. Thats all well and good and after just a little mucking around it seems to be working.
But there are a few old (but still current) debs that I am having trouble importing into the apt-cacher-ng cache. Most of them were picked up after adding all the repos to my client and running apt-get update. But there are still a few that aren't.(the 2 biggest ones are from the same repo).My client machine runs apt-get update without fault but when I import (using the apt-cacher-ng web interface) it lists all the repos (including the one these debs should be in) but isn't importing any more of the debs. There are no errors showing.
I have a database with the following table (see below). What I need to do is to empty the itype column completely, so that if I do a Select itype from items; it will return empty set. I have tried dropping and recreating the itype column, but it just adds the data I want to insert to the end, and even when I recreate it, it is not empty.. I need to overwrite it, or better, start with an empty column.

I am trying to use VLC playlists.
Either xspf or m3u.
Creating them is fine but the only they will launch is if I "Open With" VLC.
Having "Remember this application for "XSPF playlist" files." checked seems to make the assignment b/c when I right-click to get properties VLC is chosen under the "Open With" tab.
The icon doesn't change from the music note image either (I thought I'd get some VLC icon)
I understand this is a bug and you must edit ".local/share/applications/mimeapps.list"
But don't know what to enter there for XSPF or M3U files.

EasyTag will not recognise mp3 files imported from an iPod via Rhythmbox.I get an error message - " there are no files in this directory or subdirectories".Easytag will however recognise mp3s ripped from a CD on the machine.I believe I have changed permissions/ownership of the files to the username.Using Maverick 10.10

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently made the switch from windows and mac system to fedora 13 64 bit kde, which has been a challenging 6 months, not having a IT background. Anyway, overall now that I am getting the hang of it I really like fedora 13 kde, nice job guys. I have one final obstacle remaining that I have not been able to figure out. I have the necessary rpms for video and sound. I am able to successfully copy video from DVD's and play them from hard drive without issue using VLC. However, when I try to import avi files from my camera's sd memory card, the videos always end up "corrupted" and when repaired do not play sound. Again, I can play AVI's from dvd's fine. Interestingly, I can take the same files from my fedora box and copy them onto a usb stick and transfer them into my mac and they play fine.
I suspect there is a codec issue possibly with VLC, but not sure. I also tried on the default player, but cannot remember the name of that right now and my wife is presently watching her Mary Kay dvd on it as it is hooked up to our TV . My video codec knowledge is pretty basic. Can someone point me in the right direction of what the problem might actually be, another post, something?
Is there a way to share links to Spotify playlists with users who are running it through Wine? Obviously clicking a spotify: link doesn't work (Unless the browser is running in Wine)

It just goes to the folder above it, which is Ubuntu One. When I go back and try again, it freezes and makes it that I have to close the window and pull it back up again. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently got a new car, which as a USB port to connect either an iPOD or Storage Device. For some reason I decided to get a portable 500GB HDD to put my music on. When you plug in an iPOD you get the nice options to search by genre, artist, etc. You don't get this option with a storage device, just the option to go through the folders. The car stereo will read playlists. I'm wondering whether there's an easy way to create playlists so I get these options:
Artists > Artists A-D
Artists > Artists E-G
etc
Genre > Genre A-D
etc
I know rhythmbox can do this manually (as can iTunes) but surely there's an easier way. I'm planning to keep adding more music so an automated process would be nice to keep the playlists refreshed. Where the playlists are saved onto my HDD rather than having to save them one by one.
Well I recently tried syncing music to my iPod touch with rhythmbox and it keeps telling me the following: There is not enough space on the device to transfer the selected music, playlists.This is not true as I only have 3.2GB of music and 5.7GB space remaining on the ipod as shown below:Can anybody explain what is going on and why it wont let me sync ipod?
