Basically, I want to be able to cerate a playlist in Rythmbox and transfer it onto my iPhone.When I try to do this it looks like it syncs, but it never appears on my phone. Normal transferring of songs works fine. Is it possible to do this?I'm using Lucid and firmware v 3.1.3 on an iphone 2g.
View 1 RepliesI used to be able to sync my music with HTC Hero and Banshee, but when I upgraded to 2.1 quite a while back banshee seems to crash. I now have a Nexus One (Android 2.2) and that does the same. (no longer have the Hero). They both seem to crash Banshee when it gets to syncing the playlists (every time), music syncs fine. Does anyone else on 2.1 or 2.2 have this problem or is it just me? (been doing searches every now and then since the Hero update but cant find anything).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently got a new car, which as a USB port to connect either an iPOD or Storage Device. For some reason I decided to get a portable 500GB HDD to put my music on. When you plug in an iPOD you get the nice options to search by genre, artist, etc. You don't get this option with a storage device, just the option to go through the folders. The car stereo will read playlists. I'm wondering whether there's an easy way to create playlists so I get these options:
Artists > Artists A-D
Artists > Artists E-G
etc
Genre > Genre A-D
etc
I know rhythmbox can do this manually (as can iTunes) but surely there's an easier way. I'm planning to keep adding more music so an automated process would be nice to keep the playlists refreshed. Where the playlists are saved onto my HDD rather than having to save them one by one.
lucid is running great. rhythmbox is doing a great job of syncing audio with my iphone. however, what is the best way to sync video? i've tried dragging and dropping video files from nautilus to the iphone icon in rhythmbox...but that doesn't seem to work.how to sync video?

I'm trying to sync my iPhone (3G, 3.1.2) through Rhythmbox on my newly installed Lucid Lynx. While I can access and transfer music files to my iPhone, upon unmounting the iPhone doesn't update the library nor show the music. If I remount it in Rhythmbox, I can play the files from there. In my file manager I can access my iPhone, but I can't either see the iPod_Control directory nor find anything in Music or Playlists folders. BTW, on Karmic Koala I was able to update music on my iPhone, though it would not always update library.

The phone does mount in nautilus and I can also mount it with ifuse to use it witz gtkpod. However it does not show up (it only blinks and disappears) in the list at the left in rhythmbox though I have MTP and iPod Plugins enabled.
I thought I'd ask after having waited several weeks and none of the gvfsd updates changed anything
So I've seen all the buzz about the new libimobiledevice supporting iphone well enough to get it working with rhytmbox "out of the box".
I've achieved photo sync, internet tethering, and ssh access, but I don't know about music access.. there doesn't seem to be anything happening between rhythmbox and the iphone.
Rhythmbox regocnizes the phone and plays the music on it... but I can't seem to make any changes to that music.
The phone occasionally says "sync in progress" but I haven't pushed any "sync" button as there doesn't seem to be any or any settings for automatic syncing...
I am trying to get my iphone working with Rhythmbox. I have followed the wiki but I fail at the point of creating the sysinfoextended. I can mount the phone in PCmanFM and read the data on the partition but it doesn't show in Ryhthmbox. Has anyone else managed this?

ive spent days figuring out how to sync my iphone 3gs firmware 3.1.3 in ubuntu 10.04. my laptop can detect my iphone, i can actually browse its folder. (i can see photos and music from my phone, i tried to paste some photos in a certain folder and went well, just in ONE folder).
i tried almost all instructions i can find on net, but nothing is working well. i even freshly installed my ubuntu, thinking that i did something wrong in my first attempt. still cant sync music and photos.
i transferred songs already to my phone using itunes in windows (on another laptop). they said that doing this can initialize my iphone, but it didnt work.
I have the latest version of Ubuntu, but I still can't update the music on my ipod with rhythm box.So here is the deal. I put a handful of songs on my ipod using my windows computer at my parents house. Now, when I plug my iphone into my computer, the device shows up, and I am able to add and delete songs in rhythm box. The computer says it's working, and the ipod says its syncing, but once its done syncing, none of the old songs are deleted, and none of the new songs are added. Also, the old songs can't be played anymore. I've looked all around for a solution to this problem but no one can help.

We're running Ubuntu 10.10 and syncing our phones with Rhythmbox 0.13.1. It's painfully slow and skips songs sometimes. For 1500 songs, it's taking up to 5 hours. This is insane. I updated my apt sources and can mount our phones just fine. Syncing slowly is the only issue. I've read a ton of other reads about iPods having this issue as well, but not only were those issues never resolved by I haven't seen one with the actual iPhone.
is there a program OTHER than using WINE and iTunes that I can use to sync my iPod Touch with my Ubuntu 10.10 machine? I still have Vista as a Dual Boot
View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu and noticed somewhere that it says "Now you can say ubuntu has iDevice support out of the box". Naturally i tried, resulting in a music library with all the album artwork mixed up. I've tried to sync a couple of times, even added the repository for libimobiledevice and searched for the newest version (said it was already installed). When trying to sync with banshee (or rythmbox), it says syncing on my screen and on my iphone's screen. After syncing, my iphone updates the library, no new music is discovered. I can also add that banshee discovers 100 extra songs on my iphone.

I'm an ubuntu user since a year ago. It is the best thing I did no doubt. But, as always, there is some costs doing this. Specifically, My 3G Iphone can't sync correctly with rhythmbox. Though it says that is synchronized and in rhythmbox appears that indeed it is. But when I go to the 3G's play list do not appear anywhere. p.s. Currently I'm using Maverick.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen my Iphone had the 4.2.1 firmware it mounted just fine with Ubuntu, OK sure it took a download of libimobiledevice1 and some other libraries but it worked, and sync'd just fine with Rhythmbox. But, as all manufacturers do, they have released a superior new OS for the phone which fixes all those annoying little bug. I have read from 4.3.2 they changed the itunes database version to an updated one. Now this is fine if you have a windows or mac machine running the latest version of itunes but if like all of us here you have an Ubuntu machine for a very valid reason... i.e you wanted a better operating system that wasnt going to cost the earth.
well, you are screwed as they have locked the third part access to the device's itunes library. I have followed long procedures trying to hack into the phone, modifying certain files, creating a hashfile and dropping this into a system folder to fool the phone into thinking it has the 4.2.1 database still but to no avail. Now my iphone is jailbroken, for the very same reasons as to why have an ubuntu machine, a good peice of hardware with good software that i can customise to run how i see fit, this error is the same with my friends non jaibroken phone and my wifes newly updated iopd..
Surely someone out there who has an ipod, iphone 3gs who are running 4.3.2 or higher has figured out how to fix this annoying "update" problem. The phone mounts fine and i can see a documents drive and the main iphone itself, so it is being recognised but im getting errors when trying ti access the phone in ANY linux media software... They all see the phone but cant recognise the database.
I'm using Banshee that comes installed on 11.04. Syncing seems to work only one of two ways: 1. sync entire library (not possible for me) or 2. sync a single banshee playlist. Whenever I plug my Zune in, Rhythmbox recognizes all the songs on it but when I doubleclick on a song to play it, the song doesn't play and Rhythmbox quits. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm running a Dell XPS 410 with 4GB RAM and a 1.75 GHz processor.Also, I imported a CD and it plays fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI know that iDevices do not support OGG, but on Ubuntu 10.10 when I synced my iPod Touch with Banshee, it would convert my music (all .ogg) and then sync it to the iPod without changing the original files. Now I'm on Kubuntu 11.04 (still using Banshee, I prefer it over Amarok) but when I try to sync now I just get errors saying .ogg is not supported. How can I fix this? I'd rather not convert all my music into .mp3 because (a) It goes against my free software values and (b) it would take forever.

Currently I am trying to get it to work with Banshee.Originally, my girlfriend connected it to iTunes running under Windows, and configured it and loaded music, photos and podcasts onto it. Unfortunately for her, the Windows machine had a hardware failure, and there is no other PC running real Windows for her to use. I have some Windows Virtual Machines on my Ubuntu server, but there are known problems passing through the iPod USB connection to a KVM Virtual Machine.
I tried iTunes under Wine (using the PlayOnLinux software to install and configure), but that also doesn't work (also apparently a known problem).So I am left with getting the iPod working with real native Ubuntu software. I tried Rhythmbox, but that doesn't seem to support writing to an iPod. Then I tried Banshee, which claims to be able to do it all.Banshee can connect to the iPod, and I can load music and videos onto the iPod, but:Banshee cannot see any of the music already on the iPod (loaded with ITunes),The iPod cannot see any of the files (music or video, nor any new Playlists) loaded by Banshee. The files are there (I can see them by browsing the iPod device with Nautilus), and they are certainly taking up storage space, but they do not show up when using the iPod directly.It is as if there are 2 iPods: the real iPod, and a virtual iPod accessed by Banshee.
I am running Banshee 1.6 Beta 3 (1.5.2), on Jaunty (9.04).When I first connected the iPod to Banshee it told me that, because the device had been used with a new version of iTunes, the media catalogue would have to be rebuilt, to which I agreed. I am starting to suspect that there are now 2 media catalogues on the iPod, one being used by Banshee, and the other by the iPod iteslf.
I'm dual-booting Ubuntu and Windows 7, and I have all my music files on an external hard drive that I read from both OSes. When in Windows 7, I use iTunes as my music player. Does anyone know of a way to keep the ratings, primarily, and play counts as a bonus quest, synced between iTunes and a Linux music player, whether it's Rhythmbox, Banshee, Amarok, or some other player. This is the number one feature I'd like so I'll switch to using almost any music player if I can have this.
If there's a way to import ratings from iTunes that's a start, but that's more of a one time thing. I might be able to write a script that does this importing regularly but what I'd really like is a seamless way to keep the ratings between the two music players synced. I know I can use Amarok or Banshee on Windows and that might make what I'm trying to do easier, but for other reasons I need to keep using iTunes on Windows.
I would like to do is as the subject says, I want to take a music video and then sync several light channels to the music video.
I would like dimming control of the lights as you would have with a DMX 512 system or even Midi. In which the light programming is done in a choreographed sequencing pattern, much like many Midi "piano roll" based editing software.
In a nutshell I would like to do what the Windows program "Vixen" Christmas lighting control program does, but within Linux AND for videos. Sadly Vixen doesn't support syncing to video's at this time...only audio. Another thing is that Vixen also doesn't work with Wine, so it is a no go in Linux.
I would hope that by now there is some kind of video program that does permit syncing to external output devices.
Is it possible to link a folder to GTKpod so that it can automatically update the changes to iPhone that are made to files or folders like tag changes or adding or deleting files?
