Ubuntu / Apple :: Wireless Password Not Accepted ?

Aug 2, 2010

I have recently helped a friend of mine install ubuntu on their macbook which they have had since 2007 and we have run into a problem connecting to her wireless network. The WPA2 password that she uses is "invalid" while logged in under her ubuntu partition. We are able to connect to unprotected wifi networks without a problem and her home network can be accessed via OSX and my linux install on an acer aspire one (I'm running Peppermint OS at the moment). This has been a problem since day one of her ubuntu installation.

Ubuntu Installation :: Wireless Network Noticed Connection And Accepted Password But Didn't Connect

Mar 16, 2011

When I firsts installed Ubuntu 10.04, and tried to hook it up to my wireless network it noticed my connection and accepted my password, but did not connect. My wireless card doesn't have linux drivers installed. I found the correct drivers, but I am unsure of the correct way to install them in Windows so they work in Ubuntu. I am currently dual booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu.

BackupPC usually just works. It backs up the localhost and another PC, both running Debian Unstable. However it stopped backing up the remote machine after the 22nd March. This correlates with updating OpenSSH.All I get is "Unable to read 4 bytes from Server".As suggested on the backupPC website I ranCode:sudo -u backuppc /usr/share/backuppc/bin/BackupPC_dump -v -f backupclientI was asked for the sudo password and then for a password for each directory that was to be backed up.The backuppc password was not accepted. The root password was.Could somebody point me towards a solution? Do I have to recreate the SSH keys?

Ubuntu :: Password Not Accepted And Recovery Console Is Dead

Aug 16, 2010

Yes thats right. Last night I changed my logon password for better security. (have a feeling my flatmate knows it). When I tried to log in today, it wouldn't accept my password. No I know that I got it correct. I know this for a fact. So after a few tries, I decided stuff this, I am going to reset it using recovery console. But the recovery console just hangs with the following on the screen:

[4.1098198] Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 100x30

I can ctrl+alt f2, and I just get a flashing cursor. So that's it then. My ubuntu box is hosed and I am about twenty minutes away from formatting and starting again. 6 months of schoolwork, designs for architectural competitions etc all gone.

CentOS 5 :: Partial Password Logins Accepted?

Jun 18, 2010

I am new to CentOS, and am having a problem with authentication. The system accepts the login if the first 8 characters of the password are correct, regardless of the length of the password. My root password is 15 characters, but entering the first 8 my login is approved, which is a bit of a security concern.I think this may be something I am missing in the PAM configuration.I've experienced the behavior on SSH as well as Webmin.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Auto-load Apple Wireless Keyboard?

Apr 22, 2010

This morning I bought an Apple wireless keyboard and I got it connected through Blueman. It works like a charm, but I have on problem;

When I log out I can log back in by typing in my password. However, when I restart the computer it seems that bluetooth is not loaded yet and I cannot enter my password. So I have to log in using my wired keyboard, and then disconnect & re-connect to my wireless keyboard using blueman before I am able to use the wireless keyboard.

Is there any way that I can already auto-load bluetooth and connect to my keyboard before I log in?

When I click on Bugzilla it allows me to write information etc and I even sign in with my forum id (I know it is not necessarily correct) but I didn't know what else to do and thought it would work. When I sign in it does not reject me until the very final step of the bu reporting process. My question to anyone is how can I get my bug reports to be accepted or how can I sign in to this area of Fedora if required?

Networking :: Ports Forwarded But No Connections Accepted

Feb 28, 2010

I'm trying to setup my debian system so that I can access it's services from the internet

I have my router set to forward ports 21, 22, and 80 to the internal ip of the server, and internet port checking tools tell me the ports are open at my external ip.

On the debian I am running Apache, ProFTPD, and SSH Server, and they all work fine for me inside the network, but whenever I try connecting with my external ip, all connections are immediately refused.

So I don't know if its a problem with my router setup, with my debian system setup, or the setups of the servers.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Get Wireless To Work With Live CD 10.04 On PB G4?

So I have been testing out the Ubuntu Live CD 10.04 on my PowerBook G4 and most everything seems to be working fine (with the exception of wireless and the dim/brighten buttons.) When connected to the internet via ethernet cable, I was able to download the broadcom hardware (I guess needed to make wireless work??) This is pictured below. However, even after the hardware thing was activated, when I unplugged the ethernet cord and clicked on the icon for wireless internet under wireless, it says, "Device not ready." Can you get wireless to work with the live cd?

Ubuntu / Apple :: Setting Up A Wireless Connection?

Jun 11, 2010

I'm having a bit of trouble setting up a wireless connection. I'm really trying to set it up for Lucid Lynx on another partition, but right now I'm on OS X running Jaunty Jackalope in Sun's VirtualBox. Neither auto-recognize the network I'm trying to connect too (don't know if Ubuntu has that feature), but OS X has a good connection. I'm trying to set up Jaunty first since I at least have some internet connection, but I'm not planning on using it that much.

So far, what I have put into the Network setup application is the network's name (SSID, right?), that it's WPA, and the network password. Though now I've checked back on the password field, the 8 digit password (eight circles) has been replaced with a bunch of circles, so I don't know what's up with that.

What's empty is the BSSID field, the MAC address, and for all intents and purposes, the password field since it's not the same as what I put in there. I assume OS X has a copy of this information somewhere since it's already connected? I've tried quite a few attempts to get either Ubuntu system to connect, and my google-fu is not helping.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Wireless And Sound For MBP 5,5 Karmic 64-bit Not Work Together

Feb 25, 2010

I have been using the information provided here: [URL] to fix some issues after installation of Karmic 64-bit on a MBP 5,5. The solutions for wireless and sound work, but not together - one seems to break the other. Here is what I did:

1. Followed directions for fixing wireless here: [URL] (AirPort) This works fine.

2. Followed directions for fixing sound, which seems to update the kernel, here: [URL] Sound This also works, but then wireless does not work.

If I boot into the older kernel version, I have wireless again, but no sound. If I boot into the newer kernel and try to use the wireless solution above its says I already have that package installed - yet no go with wireless.

Ubuntu / Apple :: Broadcom Wireless Card Macbook 5,1

Nov 7, 2010

Aluminum Unibody macbook, the only aluminum macbook to date. It has a Broadcom chip in it and I installed the STA drivers. The first day it seemed to work fine. Then I noticed pages stopped loading. The max throughput I get is like 30KiB/s once in a while. Sometimes I see consistent speeds of 600B/S...this really sucks. Is there a fix or anything?

I was going to make the switch slowly to 10.10 full-time, but the wireless issue is bothering me. The keyboard brightness keys don't work natively, but there's a fix I saw but didn't have time to implement earlier. I like ubuntu but I don't like my wireless not working!
