I installed linux on my imac G5(i did not dual boot) and now i want to install os x again on my mac but when i try to boot the installation cd it doesnt work.

I want to connect my OpenSuse 11.3 Distribution with the Internet via WLAN. But i can't open the KNetworkManager. It doesnt respond to my clicks. If I click on the KNetworkManager "Button" it doesen't react.
Result : I can't modify my WLAN-Connection.
I have a computer that i wish to install ubuntu 10.04 on, it wont install tho, it tells me that it cant detect the cd rom (the drive it is booting from) and that i should insert a removable device with the drivers on it, except i dont have those and don't know where to get them. i cant boot from a usb but i have a usb with 10.04 on it just incase. i tryed this with both alternate install and desktop. i dont know what to do, i have invested 2 days to try and do this and i would really like to put this on my computer.
I have previously installed 8.04 on my computer with out such error and all of the hardware is the same (even the hard drive), and i lost the 8.04 disk. <(it was a live disk)
I am installing in Kubuntu (I cant stand ubuntu anymore) But when i try to use dd to install to a USB, I cant because Ubuntu got rid of the root and when i sudo it, It doesnt seem to work!
Here is the message i get:
just installed ubuntu on a dell inspiron 6400 but the wireless doesnt work.
However, it works 100% when running from the live cd.
Can i install/copy the driver from livecd to hard drive, or is there another soultion for this?
When I plug in my headphones Karmic doesnt detect it. Sound is still playing on the internal speakers. I believe this is a known issue, but haven`t found the workaround/fix for it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a fully operational PXE boot server, the client boots up and begins the setup process however, fails to detect the hard disk, I have tried with ubuntu 8.10, 9.10 and 10.10 and none of them will see my hard disk, I boot to the cd and it sees the hard disks with no problem, so apparently the pxe boot server isnt serving up the neccesary drivers or something to detect my hard disks properly. They are just IDE drives and like I said, regular cd install detects my drives just fine.So if anyone here has any information that may help shed some light on this issue I would be so grateful
View 1 Replies View Relatedeverything was fine except ..... player didnt work but i see many have this problem.... anyway, screensaver asked me for password and i clicked cancel - after this there is problem wit booting - it appears ubuntu logo for few seconds than disappears, than some horizontal purple lines than nothing. i use compaq 615.

I am using 8.04 Sometimes, when I start some video or audio file, I cant hear the sound. Even if it is working some time back. Then it starts all of a sudden or mostly I need to do a restart.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi've come to replacement my 80 yr old fathers win98 machine with lucidFirefox 3.6.3 says 'connecting to .....' when accessing a webpage (eg his home igoogle page,bbc.co.uk ) and then times out .It all works with opera and links2 and pings are the usual times and its doing DNS . I've added 4.4.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 to /etc/resolv.conf for good measure FF its configured NOT to use a proxy ( Im fed up looking and checking !) and ive tried the 'detect settings automatically'this is a 'mission critical' step. Going to linux is a big enough change , so getting FF working will be a deal-breaker

View 4 Replies View Relatedright now im using the nm-applet but i dont like it. it produces lags. i think the periodical ssid/broadcast check might be the cause :/it lags every minute or so...in games and skype it is very annoying! if there is a possibily to disable these scans in nm-applet it would be fine too.for the moment im "using" this wpa_supplicant config:

I can change to just about any dir of my file system with cd /filename/
eg cd /var/ or cd /opt/
it will skip me up or down the tree to get there but when if go cd /Desktop/or cd /myuseraccount/
is get: bash: cd: /Desktop/: No such file or directory
i have to be right next to the directory to get there.i dont get it. why is this?
I am running xubuntu 11.04 (ISO from early this week). During install, I selected to NOT auto login but to present this gdm panel where I have to enter the password (or other users could log in).
Now I decided to enable auto-login (and to start the screensaver right afterwards) ... so I opened up the "login screen settings" (systems menu), unlocked that window and changed it to "login as xxx".
Then i rebooted and would have expected to be greeted with my screen saver on a logged-in session afterwards. But what happens is that there is a gdm panel sitting ... showing me

So I have to select other and enter user name + password ?
Is that how it is supposed to work?

I have to unplug the cable, refresh the page and let it wait for the connection, after a second or two, i plug it back in, and it works. this works only for that page, which means only that page loads.. if i try to open another site or smthing else, it doesnt work and i have to repeat the exercise for the new site..i have to unplug, refresh and let it wait for connection and plug it back in.. The same thing happens if i try to download an application.. i have to first issue the command to download, and when it says "connecting to blah blah.." i plug the cable back in and it starts downloading, it doesnt work if the cable is already plugged it..!
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have both a bootable USB install of 10.10 Desktop, which I've confirmed on my netbook (which runs Ubuntu) works fine, and a CD install disk, and my MacBook will not boot the USB and the CD isn't working right. I have a flaky superdrive, which is why I'm attempting the USB approach as well. I burned the CD from my son's computer and I'm sure it's fine.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.8.
I just reinstalled ubuntu to the new version in my macbook pro, I have rEFIt which properly boots mac osx but for some reason it is not able to boot the new installation of ubuntu.
I made the common installation (ext4 partition mounting / and one for the swap), then I restart I sync the partitions with rEFIt and mac osx boots well but the ubuntu gets stuck and I never get to see the grub.
After upgrading Jaunty to Karmic internet sharing (iptables) stoped working. Nothing in iptables configuration was changed. Computers behind my ubuntu router can ping it, have access to it (apache, samba, etc.). Only internet isnt forwarding. Clients configuration is the same as before upgrade.
View 2 Replies View Relatedive installed the classbrowser plugin for gedit, and installed it the correct manner, by copying all the contents of the download to the .gnome2/gedit/plugins folder. The side pane shows up when i enable the plugin but it doesnt seem to do anything (the pane is just blank). Do i need to do anything else to get it to work?

I understood that raw1394 and video1394 modules are now deprecated. So firewire_ohci and firewire_core are loaded when I plug in the camera. There is no more /dev/raw1394 and /dev/video-0 streams, but now there are /dev/fw0 and /dev/fw1.
When I run Coriander, I receive: Erreur de segmentation (core dumped)
