Jun 30, 2010I had some Problems with analog Modems.We have now new Server Hardware witch don't work with Suse 10.2, now we Upgrade to 11.2, but the Devolo Modem doesnt work with the Drivers vor 10.2, No Problem, this Modems are sold out, i had to search for other Modems.Now I Test an Softmodem with Motorola Chipset, Bad Luck.Then i Think, Try a Hardware Modem From US-Robotics, Expensive but working on Linux: USR802981-OEM But don't working on Suse 11.2.If you had some Other Modem (internal Pci) witch works for DialIn Data Connections please sent me Type and Configs

Aug 4, 2010The situation:At my workplace there is a shared printer installed in WINDOWS. It's installed also in my windows system(WINDOWS 7 ULTIMATE version 7600). It's working very well. From windows I shared it to have the option for printing from openSuSE 11.3. In Samba I can see the other colleagues connected to the same workplace network. I shared also the printer with Samba.I can see it.
The problem :The printer doesn't work.I can't find a opensuSE11.3 driver for it (Samsung CLX 3170 FN).The question 1:Is it really need a properly driver for it if it installed in windows? The question 2:How can I make printing from openSuSE11.3 with the shared installed in windows server printer? Steps done:in MS Win system I shared ,I noted the WORKGROUP,the PC name and the IP for the printer. //ALso I know the domain and my IP.well done in resolv.conf,in fact I have internet connection from openSuSE 11.3,no problem,e-mail/evolution and kmail are working very well,configured both for the workplace). Now in openSuSE what should I do? I need some advices/right steps) about configuring this printer USING few ways(Samba,Printer config from YAST etc) because I am thinking somehow I did something wrong. When I make print test page the printer make the noise is preparing but nothing is happening. I believe that maybe the driver missing is the problem. BUT ONCE AGAIN,it's installed in my PC in Windows system,/I have dual boot system/GRUB MANAGER/openSuSE and Windows 7 Ultimate 7 7600. May 26, 2010based on the HW compatibility list, I bought a Conrad "Bluetooth Stick Micro" (Order number 97 19 99) => Does someone know, if this is "really" the one mentioned in the compatibility list ? Can I find out, what chip(set) is used ? (I'm somewhat "afraid", that the name might be the same, but the chip(set) changed. No, it is unfortunately not mentioned in the documentation coming with it) Unfortunately I didn't get it to work on Suse 11.2 (64 Bit) so far. This is what I tried: Installed bluetooth packages, based on the information I found.

I looked for a bluetooth section in yast2, but couldn't fine one. (I think I saw one in earlier releases...) => Did I miss it ? Do I miss a package ? (I checked all packages containing "yast" for something.) So, with no yast2 module present, how do I do the basic configuration ? The documents I could find all describe how to use the bluetooth connection, if the basic setup suceeded.

Dec 21, 2010I'm resuming here (after suggestion of malcolmlewis) my problems with Bluetooth and Smeegol. May be there is out there someone able to give some advice. TIA.
My setup: Samsung N150 (Atom 450), 2Gig ram, Suse 11.3 - Smeegol 1
The problem is:
From the netbook (Samsung) i see the available bluetooth advices and can even configure them but doing file research ON that devices is not possible. I can only send files to, but not get files from there (e.g. Nokia cellphone or PB G4 running Debian). Now, i think (but not sure on this) in Smeegol the administration of bluetooth is done by the connman (as i understand a connection manager developped by the Intel Open Source Group which was responsable for Moblin as well (?) ) and so, it might be a defect. of that connection utility.
So, i installed blueman (i know from other devices i use, runs very fine and stable in Debian) but with blueman i got this error, when i tried to access the other devices by bluetooth:
Could not display "obex://[00:25:48:3A:A9:58]/". Error: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus) Please select another viewer and try again.
Then, after suggestion of malcolmlewis, i installed bluez-hcidump and tried as root in a terminal: hcidump. The "result" was:
HCI sniffer - Bluetooth packet analyzer ver 1.42 device: hci0 snap_len: 1028 filter: 0xffffffff
and then the process froze without any additional info (even after an hour i didn't get back to the terminal prompt!).
And here, i'm out of any further idea. Might be a bug in Smeegol, as someone suggested. Would be sad (since that feature of bluetooth is pretty much essential for me, since i often use the phone to take occasional photoshots i need for my work) but good to know as well. Would be even better if there would be a workaround .

Aug 10, 2010I am trying to connect my samsung mobile to a laptop, with bletooth. In Ubuntu it worked normally. I have installed opensuse 11.3 KDE and tried to connect when KDE bluetooth module gave me an error that my mobile does not support services. I have solved the problem by installing nautilus from official repo and blueman from factory repo and now I can connect to my mobile with blueman and browse the files with nautilus. Is there a known problem with bluetooth and kde or something is wrong with my opensuse?

May 16, 2010i've come to replacement my 80 yr old fathers win98 machine with lucidFirefox 3.6.3 says 'connecting to .....' when accessing a webpage (eg his home igoogle page,bbc.co.uk ) and then times out .It all works with opera and links2 and pings are the usual times and its doing DNS . I've added 4.4.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 to /etc/resolv.conf for good measure FF its configured NOT to use a proxy ( Im fed up looking and checking !) and ive tried the 'detect settings automatically'this is a 'mission critical' step. Going to linux is a big enough change , so getting FF working will be a deal-breaker

I understood that raw1394 and video1394 modules are now deprecated. So firewire_ohci and firewire_core are loaded when I plug in the camera. There is no more /dev/raw1394 and /dev/video-0 streams, but now there are /dev/fw0 and /dev/fw1.
When I run Coriander, I receive: Erreur de segmentation (core dumped)

eg cd /var/ or cd /opt/
it will skip me up or down the tree to get there but when if go cd /Desktop/or cd /myuseraccount/
is get: bash: cd: /Desktop/: No such file or directory
i have to be right next to the directory to get there.i dont get it. why is this?

Aug 22, 2010I have a computer that i wish to install ubuntu 10.04 on, it wont install tho, it tells me that it cant detect the cd rom (the drive it is booting from) and that i should insert a removable device with the drivers on it, except i dont have those and don't know where to get them. i cant boot from a usb but i have a usb with 10.04 on it just incase. i tryed this with both alternate install and desktop. i dont know what to do, i have invested 2 days to try and do this and i would really like to put this on my computer.
I have previously installed 8.04 on my computer with out such error and all of the hardware is the same (even the hard drive), and i lost the 8.04 disk. <(it was a live disk)
Ubuntu :: Auto-login Doesnt Work ?
Apr 28, 2011I am running xubuntu 11.04 (ISO from early this week). During install, I selected to NOT auto login but to present this gdm panel where I have to enter the password (or other users could log in).
Now I decided to enable auto-login (and to start the screensaver right afterwards) ... so I opened up the "login screen settings" (systems menu), unlocked that window and changed it to "login as xxx".
Then i rebooted and would have expected to be greeted with my screen saver on a logged-in session afterwards. But what happens is that there is a gdm panel sitting ... showing me

Where the first item wont do anything.
So I have to select other and enter user name + password ?
Is that how it is supposed to work?

Feb 28, 2010my printer is not listed the type of drivers it mentions to download in plug and play.the drivers listed dont come close to the number(465cn).I have a brother mfc-465cnwhere do i find the drivers that will be compatible. generic diver listed didnt work or other numbers listed under the 'brother' or 'mfc' brandI went to the open printer website and my printer isnt listed there either. just brother and some other mfc's but nothing near what my printer is.
