I liked Unity because I only had to press the super key to get a giant magnifying glass, type what I want, hit enter, and bam get the document/application I was looking for. Basically, no or minimal mouse use is the desire. Since I decided not to stick with Unity, I know there've gotta be apps out there that provide this functionality; I'm just not sure how to find them.

I am looking for a decent 'magnifying glass' for look web pages and such. I loaded Orca but was turned off by the 'machine voice' feature. I noticed Gnome-mag in my files list but that does not seem to work for me?!?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIt appears to me that fonts for Linux in general are rubbish. They couldn't get any smaller. I am new to linux having moved over from windows. I have a website that uses the Verdana font. Not recognized in Linux. Just about every forum I go on the fonts are barely readable they are so small. My screen resolution is 1024x 768. If there is no solution to this problem then I'm afraid it's back to windows for me as I'm getting very bad eyestrain. I'm not jesting there. Are there better fonts that can be installed? Incidentally, I tried Ubuntu which is worse.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI've just noticed this morning that the number shortcuts that normally appear when holding the super key to show the Unity launcher are not there. The s, a and f shortcuts remain however. Also, just pushing the numbers that should be there doesn't do anything.
I've just upgraded from Maverick to Natty and things were mostly working fine until this. I'm not sure what changes have happened between now and then and I don't remember any major changes in that period.
I just tried to take a screenshot and opened GIMP to save it and I checked again and they have reappeared. So, I guess the new question is why did this happen? How can I solve this problem if it happens in the future? Should I mark this as solved? I don't really understand what happened either way.
how to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.

I was using my 1TB hdd to dual-boot linux, windows, and for storage...Yesterday, I imaged the linux partition, and restored it to an approximately 66GB partition I created on a 150GB hdd...Besides the 66GB partition, the rest of the 150GB hdd is 'unallocated space'... View 4 Replies View RelatedMy Kubuntu desktop uses 3x24" monitors running on two NVidia cards. I'm using Xinerama to make use of all 3 monitors in one giant desktop. Trouble is I really miss hardware acceleration which I had before with TwinView.
Is there *any* way to make Xinerama use the hardware like it's supposed to? The way it is, it makes the computer struggle; the i7 with 12 GBs of RAM runs like that 200Mhz MMX IBM Aptiva I had in 1995.

View 1 Replies View RelatedCurrently have a Server 2003 fileserver. I am tired of having to buy a whole new hardware array every time I need more online space. I'm up to my 3rd controller/disk swapout in 5 years and I need something truly expandable. This time I am shooting for the stars and devising a system that will have an upper limit of 80TB instead of just doubling or tripling the current space (6TB). The server will initially be equipped with a 4-port eSATA contoller with a single 5-drive tower running through a port multiplier to one of the eSATA ports. As time goes on more towers will be added to fill all the eSATA ports (5 drives per port, 20 drives). If needed a second controller will be added to provide another 20 drives worth of capacity. (40 drives total). I need to work out what the best way to configure these drives is, to have some level of redundancy and also to keep the available data space reasonable. What I've worked out so far is:
LVM - expandable volume, all space should appear as a single volume. Start with an LVM volume over the 5 drive mdadm array. Expand it over new 5-disk towers as they are added.

MDADM - Each tower of 5 disks will be in a 5-disk RAID5 array set up with mdadm. As new towers are added the md* device will be used as new space to expand onto with LVM

Just upgraded to 11.4 this afternoon. All went smoothly for me. I did a clean install.I started up bubblemon, and it has huge bubble floating up in it. Is there anyone else with this problem?

That user name and password are the same that I now use to log into ubuntu. But now I am unable to log into super user using the terminal. When I try to log in to the super user account it says that the password is wrong. During the whole installation process only once did wubi ask me to enter password and I am using the same password. My windows user name and password are the same as what I entered during installation.

Into the details:
The problem is, i go into a website and it seems to renderize by chunks, ie i enter my favorite PC hardware forum and it is like this when loading: Processors...1sec....Vid cards....1sec...Memory...and on and on until the bottom of the page is reached. The normal behavior is: Click...forum loaded ,as on windows.
By default i use my wireless conection, but also tried wired one to no avail. Also tried it from the live cd and i have the same problem. Some sitess like google, gmail and ..... load normally(instantly). I've tried disabling ipv6 as adviced in several parts and had no results. I used the default firefox 3.6.6, firefox 3.6.7 and chrome with the same results.

I've just upgraded to 11.04 and I can't get Super Key working in Compiz, which should be binded to Left Win. It shows up as Multi_key when I enter a key combination. However, if I bind Caps Lock to Super Key it works when entering a key combination. I'm also using a Logitech MK520 keyboard.

My Ubuntu stucks very often. For no visible reason. Music in audacious is continuing playing, but i cannot press anything on the desktop or buttons on keyboard. Caps lock also dont respond. Mouse is working, but i cannot press anything. Only solution is reset.
