Ubuntu :: Super + F Can't Find Any Results
Apr 30, 2011
So when I press Super + F I get "Search Files & Folders" but I don't get any results when I search for files/folders I know are in my home folder.
Am I missing something, do I need to install any other packages for this to work?

how to use the <Super>ButtonX (<Super>Button1 for example for the enabled Compiz Screenshot plugin)? I also notice there is configurable buttons 1 throught 20 under the various options. At first I thought the ButtonX was a mouse button. Maybe it is with some anticipation of there being eventually being a possible 20 buttons on the mouse. I know the Super key is the Key with the Windows logo on it. But I don't know what to do to get the needed Super Key / Button combination. After having enabled Compiz's Screenshot plugin by its default, I don't get an image after hitting any of the Super key and mouse button combinations. I'm running Ubuntu 11.04.

Is there an easy way to do a recursive command line search on a path for a particular type of file extension?I want to build a script that will check for the existence of any .xxx files in a recursive path, if they exist, I would like to run the "mail" command to send me a message. I already have mail running on he server. My thoughts were to tryQuote:ls -R |grep .iniorQuote:find . |grep .inibut neither of those return only the .ini files, they also return files that are named such as .ini.bak, .ini.original, .ini.old, ect...

so I was wondering how I could do a simple find which would order the results by most recently modified. Here is the current fine I am using. (I am doing a shell escape in php, so that is the reasoning for the variables. find '$dir' -name '$str'* -print | head -10
How could I have this order the search by most recently modified. (Note I do not want it to sort 'after' the search, but rather find the results based on what was most recently modified)

I wanted to supply mplayer with the output of find command as arguments. The error returned showed spliced names of files whenever spaces occurred. I have subdirectories in my /home/my_user_name/Music/ directory, and in them multiple *.oga music files. The actual command that I issued was
Code:
mplayer $(find /home/my_user_name/Music/ -name "*.oga")
mplayer started but then was looking for broken file names. I am thinking quoting has to do with it to preserve the filename as one string but different attempts were met with inroads:
Code:
mplayer `find /home/my_user_name/Music/ -name "*.oga"`
gave me the same result and
Code:
mplayer `"find /home/my_user_name/Music/ -name *.oga"`
complained about wrong mplayer syntax.

I'm trying to do a
find /photos/* -type f -mtime +365
to find all my pictures that are over a year old, but I keep getting argument list too long. How can I view what all the results are, even if it just dumps it to a file that I have to open?

If I do something to the effect of this:ldapsearch -b "dc=example,dc=com" -x -z 3000
I'll get this back at the end of the result set:
# search result
search: 2
result: 4 Size limit exceeded
The thing is is that I have way more (thousands) than what's being displayed here. And I've tried to mess around with /etc/ldap.conf, changing the SIZELIMIT directive to something else, 10000, let's say, and restarting the server, but the same goddamn thing happens.
I've been messing around with this for quite some time now, hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on this so that I can learn my way out of this mess that is LDAP. Also in a related matter, I'm running Mint (based off of Ubuntu), and all the documentation that I've seen (probably read a good 100+ pages in a few days now on this) keeps telling me to make changes to my slapd.conf file. What slapd.conf file? It doesn't exist, I can't find it at least. find / -name slapd.conf turns up nothing.

I'm timing how long it takes to run a command foo. I'm looking to append the results from the time command to a file, and discard the results from the foo command. I tried the following, but it didn't do what I want:

Add some pictures inside your Pictures home folder (~/Pictures). Summon Gnome-DO by hitting [Super]and[Space] Type "slideshow", hit [TAB] and select the 'Pictures' folder or another user-defined folder where pictures are stored and finally hit [ENTER] I've Googled the topic (super key) but all I've found is "what," not "where."

Recently I installed Ubuntu using WUBI. During installation it asked for a user name and password which I filled in. That user name and password are the same that I now use to log into ubuntu. But now I am unable to log into super user using the terminal. When I try to log in to the super user account it says that the password is wrong. During the whole installation process only once did wubi ask me to enter password and I am using the same password. My windows user name and password are the same as what I entered during installation.

I've been working on this for a couple days, but I cannot seem to find a solution either on my own or through trusty Google. For whatever reason, I cannot get the Super key assigned to the Left Win as I have had it in the past. There does not seem to be an option to do that in the Keyboard layout thingy.

web browsing is going SUPER slow in my samsung N150 netbook with dual boot(win7/ubuntu10.04). Windows counterpart working flawlessly.
Into the details:
The problem is, i go into a website and it seems to renderize by chunks, ie i enter my favorite PC hardware forum and it is like this when loading: Processors...1sec....Vid cards....1sec...Memory...and on and on until the bottom of the page is reached. The normal behavior is: Click...forum loaded ,as on windows.
By default i use my wireless conection, but also tried wired one to no avail. Also tried it from the live cd and i have the same problem. Some sitess like google, gmail and ..... load normally(instantly). I've tried disabling ipv6 as adviced in several parts and had no results. I used the default firefox 3.6.6, firefox 3.6.7 and chrome with the same results.
This is the info for my wireless adapter just in case:

I've just upgraded to 11.04 and I can't get Super Key working in Compiz, which should be binded to Left Win. It shows up as Multi_key when I enter a key combination. However, if I bind Caps Lock to Super Key it works when entering a key combination. I'm also using a Logitech MK520 keyboard.

Predefinations: From here on in, I will refer to the "Windows Key" on the keyboard as the "Super Key" (Linux terminology)
Consider a user's experience in Windows:
* UseCaseA: Accessing the start menu --> "Super Key" open the menu.
* UseCaseB: Open the "run dialogue" --> "Super Key" + R
* UseCaseC: Open win explorer --> "Super Key" + E
* etc.
In GNOME/ubuntu however, apparently there is this odd limitation in that the "Super Key" cannot be both a standalone key, and a modifier key. Is it still the case? Currently running Ubuntu 10.04 and 10.10. Apparently in KDE this works, and in Windows it's worked since Windows95. How can we achieve this functionality in Ubuntu/gnome?

I dismayed to find that Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.10 no longer allows a user to assign the Super key (Windows key/Mod4 key) to keyboard shortcuts.
There seem to have been a number of unfavourable changes to UNR 10.10, but this is the worst. Super key functioning is essential for launching applications for many users.
I am no longer able to use UNR and I must uninstall it today. I think this is a shame, because I have always wanted to support it.

I have been trying to run the program unrevoked so that I can flash and root my phone. I want to do this on Linux, but this requires me to run the program as root and I don't know how to do this. I looked it up online and it told me to simply type sudo reflash or gksudo reflash and I tried both, sudo says it can't find the program and gksudo does something then nothing appears to happen.

What are the chances of super smart phones being released?Devices which look like normal smart phones, but have the ability to run a full blown linux distro like ubuntu and have the power to play 1080p files, which also come with docking stations so you can plugin an external display, usb keyboard and mouse, so at home, it can be used as a normal desktop PC...Possibly using the ION based NVIDIA GPU with dual core 64bit processor!

So I have seen several super boot disks based on winpe(Like Bartpe super boot disk) out there and I am wondering if anyone can happen to point me to one that is based off open source software.
Super Boot Disk = A single boot disk that accomplishes a great many common tasks needed to rescue a system.some things that I am looking for in this would be: Virus scan, memory test, bootloader recovery, hard disk drive recovery/testing, gparted, clonzilla.and whatever else you could think of.I see that gparted and clonzilla both have live cd's available..but im looking to only carry one disk.
