Ubuntu :: Adding Package Sources Fails - HTTP Not Found
Jul 2, 2010
When I try to add software sources (specifically those for Scratchbox, but I get the same error with everything), I get an error message: "http://http not found". Obviously that is not a valid APT line and I have no idea what it is doing in my software sources. How do I take it out?
I've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04 - following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.
I'm trying to build the package zaptel on debian, but I'm encountering two errors: 1- When I try to run the "make menuselect" command, I get an error stating that I need ncurses which is missing. I tried to get it installed but didn't get to do it yet. 2- After that, there's the command "make" I think it's to build the package. Yet again this fails, and the error I get is "you do not appear to have the sources for the 2.6.26-2-686 kernel installed".
I installed Nagios on my Ubuntu 10.04 server using apt-get and when I accessed the web console, everything was OK. I made some changes to apache (creating some new virtual sites) and since then Nagios gives me a warning message for HTTP with the message, HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found. The sites that I created are working perfectly. I noticed that the attemps are 4/4. Does this need to be reset or does Nagios automatically reset that once it detects the issue is resolved?
I use lucid and don't plan to shift to newer one until another LTS release arrives. Therefore I want to know if I can add the official software source to maverick into my lucid software sources.
I'm a new linux user and I'm trying to install some files from a .tar.gz archive. I have successfully created a repository in a directory using createrepo, but I can't figure out how to add am installation source to YaST.How is it done in 11.2?
I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 and I'm trying to install Webcamstudio through the Software Center but I get this "There isn't a software package called webcamstudio in your current software sources". How do I add this to my software sources?
every time i try to update. The number of bytes sometimes changes but it ends up always failing to download the full 862kB and suggests checking my Internet connection.... which is fine.
I am quite new to centos as I am from a windows back ground and trying to change over. I am trying to install Asterisk on a dell quadcore server running centos. I need to install Dahdi for hardware support but when I try to install it I get the following error You do not appear to have the sources for the 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5 kernel installed I don't have a clue
Whenever I try to run the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, 'Starting Administrative Application' appears briefly on the taskbar - and then disappears! And nothing starts.I tried uninstalling and reinstalling them in case they were corrupt, but the same thing still happens. These two seem to be the only applications that behave this way, so can anyone think of anything that links the two of them and may cause this?
Is it possible to get a package via yum that has the kernel sources? In the "Add/Remove Software" GUI program, I have enabled the "Fedora source" s/w repository. Even then, the only kernel package I can find is the "The Linux Kernel", linux-2.6.27.15-170... which essentially provides only the kernel binaries and headers but not the source.

I am currently trying to install Debian 8 "Jessie" AMD64 on a Dell Latitude E7240. I have two 256 GB SSD disks, on the first one I have installed Xubuntu 14.04 successfully. I want to install Debian 8 (XFCE) on the other one.I have tried using Debian-8.0.0-Live-amd64-xfce, Debian-8.0.0-amd64-DVD and Debian-8.0.0-amd64-netinst, all from a USB key (prepared with Unetbootin), but after successfully partitionning SSD disk, the installer raises the following issue:"no install-able kernel was found in the defined apt sources".
I have a problem installing CentOS 5.5 over lan. I set up a dhcp3 server and it works, client got an ip. I set up a tftpd-hpa server and it works, client can boot the install image of CentOS 5.5 I set up an apache server and it seems to be impossible... In the installation marathon I clicked through the menu to the choice of the web server where my installation files are available. I enter the ip 192.168.138.1 and the path CentOS-5.5 and CentOS tells me "Unable to retrieve http://192.168.138.1//CentOS-5.5/images/stage2.img" . Thats right because the two slashes are not right. Where the hell come the two slashes from???
Kernel 2.6.21.5, slackware 12.0I downloaded the file fasm-1.69.31.tgz from http://flatassembler.net. Just in case it was a slack binary package, I did 'installpkg fasm-1.69.31.tgz'. Then I found I now had /var/log/packages/fasm-1.69.31.
E: Malformed line 59 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list (dist parse) E: The list of sources could not be read. Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem. E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
these are are errors i got when i try to open synaptic package manager! this is the list:
I have a problem with GPG key, when I tried to run #yum updateI have got this errorwarning:rpmts_HdrFromFdno: Header V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID d05c057cGPG key retrieval failed: [Errno 14] HTTP eRROR 404: Not foundI used Centos 5.5.
I'm using Slackware 13.0 on rather old PC with old Riva TNT2 video card. Default driver is "nv". Everything work fine, but without hardware 2D acceleration under X.
After studying various manuals I 1. downloaded Nvidia binary package suitable for my video card. 2. Recompile kernel without Riva framebuffer support. 3. Start Nvidia script.
Script said: "Error: unable to find the kernel source tree for the currently running kernel. Please make sure you have installed the kernel source files for your kernel and that they are properly configured...""
Kernel sources are in /usr/src/linux-2.6.29.6 I have all kernel packages installed. I was trying various switches for script in order to show the right path - nothing! 8 Some people say that Nvidia script don't like 4th digit in a kernel's name and get it from "uname -r" output. Can I change it somehow?
I want to setup my MySQL database and have MySQL up and running. I sill look for a good editor to add and configure my tables, it appears that MySQL Administrator is the only GUI client available. But when I try to add a foreign key to one of my tables, there appears to be a problem. Both of my tables are InnoDB and both have a primary key. -First I choose the tab "Foreign Keys" on my CLIENT table. -Then I press the green + sign to add a foreign key, it is default named new_fk_constraint. -I choose my table USER in the Refer.Table dropdownbox -And then I should be able to match the FK field and the PK field in the box on the right... but this box is empty. Double clicking shows nothing. I only can drag the user_id of the USER table to it, but have no option to select the foreign column. What the hell is wrong here??? This client is years old and should be really REALLY working IMHO! I was told by a friend that there is no good client available and therefore he is using some Windows program for this...
I've just installed debian to a thumb drive on a system with no hard drives. I did not install any hard drive to avoid confusion. The installation went well, I rebooted the system several times with no issues until I decided to install the hard drive (SATA drive). After I installed the hard drive the system failed to boot showing something like:
Code: Decompressing Linux... Parsing ELF... done. Booting the kernel. Loading, please wait... mount: mounting /dev/sda1 on /root failed: No such device (continues for other partitions and mount points) Target filesystem doesn't have /sbin/init No init found. Try passing init=bootarg
BusyBox v1.10.2 (Debian 1:1.10.2-2) built-in shell (ash) /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off (initramfs) [9.670347] sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [9.673805] sd 0:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through (some insignificant text was not copied :P)
I am guessing that the new disk is somehow confusing debian regarding where to look for system files or the address where the devices are located because if I remove the data cable from the hard drive the system reboots correctly (no hard drive though). Hotpluging the drive works but once I reboot it happens again.
Fedora 14 I recently went to install some software using the source files. When I ran the command ./configure I got a message saying that No package gthread-2.0 not found After searching the internet some one had the same problem. I needed to install a package called glib2-devel However, rather that searching the internet. Is there any yum command that can give me that information?
im currently setting up debian on a spare box i have and have been useing the advanced install so i could use the ssh ability to continue the install from a different computer. what i want to do is add the ssh to the install so that when the system boots with out the disk i can get into it with out having to wake up my nephew. is this possible or will i have to wait till i have access to the system to install the ssh server?
It started with Update Manager constantly recycling and not updating. When it starts it shows 295 files and 308MB waiting to download. When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!
I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?
