I use lucid and don't plan to shift to newer one until another LTS release arrives. Therefore I want to know if I can add the official software source to maverick into my lucid software sources.

When I try to add software sources (specifically those for Scratchbox, but I get the same error with everything), I get an error message: "http://http not found". Obviously that is not a valid APT line and I have no idea what it is doing in my software sources. How do I take it out?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got the following problem: I just noticed that there were just very few notifications about updating the system (usually there are damn many of them in a week) So I opened the update manager and clicked on "refresh list". The following result popped up: p,li{white-space:pre-wrap;}E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found First I thought, it would be just some kind of server problem, but it didn't stop. The next thing was to research the thread and I even found something. However, the solution suggested didn't work at all. (Things, which might have caused this: I installed the default software center |I'm using Kubuntu, but in this case that fact doesn't matter| and used it. To sum up:
- not able to update the system referring to the launchpad main sources for 11.04
- following error: E: Error http://ppa.launchpad.net natty/main/Sources Sources 404 Not Found It would be great if this was a common issue and I've been simply too stupid to find a proper solution. So you could just post the link.
I am running Jolicloud on my netbook (which I believe is an Ubuntu derivative) and I am tried to enter the getdeb.net sources in so I can install apps from the website through APT but
1) When I entered the sources into sources.list and then the key into Terminal and then went to the site and tried to install an app it didn't work.
2) I deleted the line of code in the sources.list file and when I opened terminal and entered "sudo apt-get update" it showed the list of sources, but on the list were Getdeb.net sources.
My question is how do I delete sources that aren't in /etc/apt/sources.list ?
I am installing a hp officejet pro 8500 all in one printer to knoppix 6.0.1. install hangs saying i need to disable cd sources in etc/apt/source.list. How do i do this?

I want to make a program (or script for now that I can use in one) that will backup the sources, but not the ubuntu ones. What I mean say I have ubuntu 9.04 and I want to update to 10.10, I can copy all the extra sources and add them to the sources list, but not the ones for ubuntu 9.04 (since I will have the 10.10 ones). I want to do this with a script, so it can be for backing up and automated.
I would also like it to work in debian (or any spin off of including ubuntu spin offs), that way if someone is switching from one debian based distro to another it can be made easier. The only problem I am having is in knowing if the source is part of the core of the distro or not. I would combine this with one that will backup installed programs, so you could easily move them with you for an upgrade or to try a new distro .I could sware I created this thread already (today actually) but I guess my browser did not submit it before I closed it .

I have installed and uninstalled Ubuntu four times now due to various errors. Right now I am getting error messages anytime I try to use the update or package manager and I get the same message from both:

Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.

Just updated from Lucid to Meerkat and System>Administration no longer contains a tag for Software Sources. Has this been renamed, resited, made redundant or have I had a bad upgrade?

I just installed natty, I really like it, but every time I try to install an Indicator Applet, I get "E: The list of sources could not be read."
Edit: I installed by running the upgrade from Maverick.
I upgraded MM to NN and noticed all PPA software sources are disabled. This is AFAIK normal behaviour. But now what? How do I enable PPA software sources again but not for MM but for NN.

I can only get around viashift+alt+F2. And though I can access KPackageKit via shift+alt+F2 I can't seem to get software sources to load up from KPackage. I want to try enabling the pre-proposed and untested or whatever the other option was in software sources... Unless someone has a better idea

Now I see "software sources" got corrupted. Please see attachments of System | Administration | Software Sources where all of the check-boxes are empty and and Other Software list is empty.
I have checked file /etc/apt/sources.list and there is the following text in it code...

I have recently just installed UBR 9.10 on my acer aspire one. ran into some issues connecting to the internet but have all been fixed now (hadn't disabled ivp6, kicking myself in the head for not figuring it out earlier)
anyway, as soon as that problem had been fixed (can access the internet now fine through firefox) another had arisen. i found that i couldnt download anything through the ubuntu software center, update the system through update manager, or even download anything through terminal.
