I am using Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop. My problem is when I plug in flash disk in computer in runtime system don't automatically mount partions. There isn't any new files in /dev which I could be mount. What cause it? Before everything was working.
I am having some problems with the USB ports. Some people said when you hot plug a device into USB port, under /dev will appear a ttyUSB*. But for my laptop, no matter what device I plug into the USB port (say a flash drive). There are only bunch of usbdev1.1_ep00, usbdev1.2_ep00, usbdev1.3_ep00 and usbmon* files, but not any ttyUSB*? I want to know is what is the difference between ttyUSB and usbdev1.1_ep00 files?
I am currently using an Acer Aspire One with UNR on it, and I have discovered that while the internal/built in speakers work, when I plug speakers in to the headphone jack, they don't work. Is there any reason for this and any way I can fix it?
When the ethernet cable is plugged in, it doesnt work. I have to unplug the cable, refresh the page and let it wait for the connection, after a second or two, i plug it back in, and it works. this works only for that page, which means only that page loads.. if i try to open another site or smthing else, it doesnt work and i have to repeat the exercise for the new site..i have to unplug, refresh and let it wait for connection and plug it back in.. The same thing happens if i try to download an application.. i have to first issue the command to download, and when it says "connecting to blah blah.." i plug the cable back in and it starts downloading, it doesnt work if the cable is already plugged it..!
I want t understand why my 3G modem work only when it's plugged when my computer boot. If I forget to plug it , I need to restart my machine to get it working. I'm using ubuntu 10.04 when I plug the modem during the boot I get the product id changed from 1446 to 141b and dmesg |grep tty show me that the modem attached to ttyusb0 and ttyusb1 when I plug it after the startup I get also the product id changed from 1446 to 141b but dmesg |grep tty show me nothing.
In Ubuntu 9.10, I was successfully able to use my Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 100 (a cheap USB analog video capture device). I use it for backing up old video that is stored on tapes, and it isn't working with my current install of Ubuntu 10.04. When I plug the device in, it should be detected and the em28xx module should be loaded. This fails and /var/log/messages has the following:
Code: Sep 25 16:13:18 kernel: [1196215.111898] usb 2-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 20 Sep 25 16:13:18 kernel: [1196215.266097] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
I (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?
I've been troubleshooting a friends computer and we've pretty well hit a brick wall. The issue at hand is the video card will not output properly. To be specific, it's an NVidia card with both DVI and VGA ports. We want it to output via the VGA and ignore the DVI because there's nothing plugged in there (the monitor we want to use doesn't support DVI). At any rate, the only time we can get the VGA to work is when we have another monitor plugged into the DVI port and dual head the system. When we do this it also adds an extra "Unknown Monitor" to the display panel. When we just use the DVI the extra "monitor" disappears. now we don't want to have monitor sitting here useless just so we can use the vga out, but there seems little else to do. We tried installing the Nvidia proprietary drivers through the software manager and yum and it failed both ways.
This is really frustrating because it seems like it should be such a simple thing but nothing works. Does anyone else have similar issues? is there something i can do to fix this? I apologize if i've not provided enough info, but ask and i'll post anything you need to diagnose.
For about the past month I have been having a very frustrating problem When I boot the system with the ethernet cable attached it acts as if the cable is unplugged even though the connection light is litWhen I boot the system with the ethernet cable disconnected and wait until it boots all the way to gnome and then plug in the cable everything works fine
I`m new to Ubuntu and Linux as all. First of all i have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop. I have a very strange problem, after the initial installation of Ubuntu 10.10 there were no problems plugging in my headphones or 2.1 sound system and listening to music. After a couple of days when trying to plug in my 2.1 sound system I noticed that there is no sound coming out of them, but the laptop speakers were working fine. Tested the sound system with another laptop and they worked well. I have checked all the settings and everything seems fine. I`m puzzled. I have the system dual boot with Win 7 if that makes any difference.
I can't get flash controls to work. If the video auto-plays, it starts just fine, if not, I'm out of luck. I've tried reinstalling flash through the software center. Even if it autoplays, I can't control volume or pause or anything. I'm at the mercy of whatever is already there.
Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 - all updated as of 1/2/2009 Firefox 3.5.6 On a Lenovo Thinkpad R400
It's installed as a mobile broadband connection. Only works if my phone is plugged in during boot, otherwise plugging in my phone does nothing. For example, I booted my netbook earlier today but my phone wasn't plugged in. Tethering did not work, it just acts as if it isn't present. I rebooted (with my phone still attached) and now tethering magically works.
I'm trying to get flash to work in Ubuntu x64. I used Synaptic to download the flash plug-in, however when I try to go to ..... it tells me I have to update flash. When I try to, the Adobe site tells me Google Chrome already has the latest version installed. How can I get it to work? I'm hoping there's an easy cure, since I'm new to Ubuntu.
As far as I can tell, I have all the applicable applications and plugins (for this, Debian 5.0.6 installation). I type in Code:about:plugins in either iceweasel or epiphany browser and get a list that includes:
Code: Installed plugins Find more information about browser plugins at mozilla.org.
I have followed the multimedia guide here and installed all the content but when I go to play farmville or frontierville it says I need to update flash. I am still new at ubuntu a side note if it is a command line entry I dont mind at all I am learning I like them more and more.

It has never worked. About to pull my hair out and/or reinstall Ubuntu Completely since no one else seems to have to problem.
I had important files on my flash drive that are not backed up anywhere. I went into the live USB creator, misclicked and trashed my drive. Now when I plug it in, it doesn't have any files, but its formatting remains. I can right click and see the properties and it appears as though it says the same amount is used. Currently I tryed using GParted to sort it out and upon selecting the device it starts searching for /dev/sdb partitions. It has been doing that for the last hour. Conky shows that 2 processes of dosfsck are running. Its a new drive and I dont know if it has an activity light.
what to do to get flash player to work in opera 11 even though flash player works in firefox and at the macromedia website shows that player has been installed? But when I go to other sites that requires flash player, it tells me to get flash player.
Says it's installed via the Ubuntu software center. But ....., grooveshark, pretty much everything that uses flash doesnt work. An interface will pop up (ex. ..... player will pop up but can't do anything with it) but nothing happens.
During the past days, I've tried "everything" to get flash working in my fresh Natty 64 Bits install to my Acer Aspire 5745G -laptop. I've read countless of hours through the forums, but none of the tips have helped in my case. Using the latest Firefox and Chromium.
For example, I've downloaded the 64 Bits "libflashplayer.so" from Adobe:[URL].. and put it into: sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins and restarted the browsers, even the entire PC, but still flash doesn't work. What an I doing wrong?
I did a fresh install of Fedora 14 XFCE spin and it is working well. I tried to install Adobe Flash by following the directions listed below and though it says it was successfully installed any time I try to do something that requires Flash I get a message saying I need Adobe Flash version 10 or higher.
I downloaded adobe-release-i386-1.0-1.noarch.rpm from Adobe's website and did the following:
Installation instructions for the YUM repository definition
1. Click the download link to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file. 2. Save the .rpm file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely. 3. In terminal, navigate to the desktop and type # rpm -Uvh <rpm_package_file>. Click Enter. (Note: This must be done as a root user). 4. Once the installation is complete, in terminal, type # yum install flash-plugin. Click Enter. (Note: This must be done as a root user). 5. To verify the plugin is installed in Mozilla, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu. 6. To get the most up-to-date Flash Player in the future, simply type # yum update flash-plugin in terminal. You will not need to repeat steps 1-4.
I do have flash-plugin-10.1.102.65-release.i386.rpm
Should I do the above process with this file?
I also tried to verify the plugin was installed in Mozilla but there is no Adobe Flash listed in Tools->Add-ons->Plugins. Is that where it should be listed?
I have tried to add 'libflashplayer.so' into multiple different places to get the flash work, but still my Firefox 4 says: "You need to upgrade your Adobe Flash Player to watch this video." "Download it from Adobe."
I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a 16GB USB-Stick using the Startup Disk Creator. After booting from it, I saw the progress dots running on the start screen running for ever (30 minutes until I switched off my Laptop). The whole time the in-use LED of my Harddrive was on. What is Ubuntu doing so long on my Harddisk? How can I manage, that it will work properly?
