Ubuntu Multimedia :: Plugged In Speakers Don't Work

Feb 5, 2010

I am currently using an Acer Aspire One with UNR on it, and I have discovered that while the internal/built in speakers work, when I plug speakers in to the headphone jack, they don't work. Is there any reason for this and any way I can fix it?

I'm sure this has probably come up before, but I could't find an already existing thread. I have ubuntu 10.04 and when I plug my headphones into the headphone jack, they come on, but the speakers don't shut off.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Mute Speakers When Headphones Plugged In

Mar 9, 2011

I've been bashing my head against this problem for weeks now. The problem is that my external speakers are not being muted when I plug in headphones. I get sound through both the speakers and the headphones at the same time. This is happening on every Linux distro I've tried so far on this box, but in Windows everything behaves as expected. I've tried every option I have in both alsamixer and the Gnome sound preferences, to no avail.

Curiously, if I mute any one of the audio channels or toggle the headphone switch in alsamixer, all sound output is muted, to both the speakers and headphones. The audio chipset is a Realtek ALC888, on a Gigabyte GA-770TA-UD3 motherboard (6 jacks, optical and coaxial S/PDIF out). I must've tried a dozen different models in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, and none of them seem to make any difference at all.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Speakers Don't Mute When Headphones Plugged In - 10.10

Apr 27, 2011

I have issues with my sound board configuration. My speakers don't mute when headphones are plugged in and my mic doesn't work good.

I have being readed all kinds of forums and I found that the main issue is in that maybe the ALSA is not using the correct model.

I tried modifying the archive:

With different kinds of models but I couldn't found the right one. I tried all the Lenovo ones that I found in:[url]

My laptop is a Lenovo G455 and my sound board is an ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)

I love Ubuntu but this is bothering me since I upgrade to version 10.10.

Debian Multimedia :: Speakers Do Not Mute When Headphones Plugged In

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650 with a Conexant 5069 sound card, and when I plug in my headphones the built-in speakers don't mute. I already tried adding options snd-hda-intel model=lenovo to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (I also tried auto, toshiba, thinkpad and ideapad). This is the alsactl init output:

Ubuntu :: Speakers Play When Heaadphones Plugged In - Sound Plays Out Of Speakers

Jun 17, 2011

I have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop. When I plug my headphones, they sometimes work, they sometimes don't, but that's not the main problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: USB Video Capture Device Doesn't Work When Plugged In?

Sep 25, 2010

In Ubuntu 9.10, I was successfully able to use my Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 100 (a cheap USB analog video capture device). I use it for backing up old video that is stored on tapes, and it isn't working with my current install of Ubuntu 10.04. When I plug the device in, it should be detected and the em28xx module should be loaded. This fails and /var/log/messages has the following:

Debian Hardware :: The Speakers Should Mute Themselves When Headphones Are Plugged In, But They Don't?

Mar 11, 2011

I just installed Debian Squeeze on my Acer Aspire 7736ZG and I also got some problems with the Realtek ALC888 onboard-sound. Normally, the speakers should mute themselves when headphones are plugged in, but they don't. Instead I hear sound on both, speakers and headphones.

I already installed pulseaudio, but that didn't help. On Ubuntu Maverick (11.01?) I had the problems that the sound didn't play at all until I installed an alsa-driver which was modified by one of the ubuntu developers. Is there any fix like this for Debian Squeeze, too?

Fedora :: Speakers Don't Mute When Headphones Are Plugged In (Both Play At The Same Time)

May 28, 2011

Since I bought my computer and I installed Linux on it, I had this problem...
Back in the day I never Found a REAL Solution and finally my "solution" (in Fedora)
was installing "pavucontrol" to choose the Devices when I needed to Switch.

Via the Pulse Audio Volume Control I was able to Mute speakers or Headphones
at my will, even if I had both connected, this thing worked from F12 to F14 very well...

(The same problem is present in every distro I tried and sometimes it was solved the same way in other distros)

But Now, I'm in F15 And my magic workout doesn't work anymore... it doesn't matter
wich device I choose as output, the PC simply don't mute one or another and my headphones and speakers sound at the same time.

The Sound card is a HDA INTEL with the Realtek ALC662 rev1 Chip, as I said before,
I'm using Fedora 15 KDE (64 Bit version) and I'm running ALSA v 1.0.23 with pulseaudio 0.9.22-5

The output of "lsmod | grep snd" is:

snd_usb_audio 98871 1
snd_usbmidi_lib 18066 1 snd_usb_audio
snd_rawmidi 20308 1 snd_usbmidi_lib

Ubuntu Multimedia :: ALC272 - Speakers Don't Work At All

Dec 26, 2010

I rebuild ALSA twice, got the latest stable version, installed the one from ubuntu-audio-dev, but nothing. The output from alsa-info.sh can be found here: [URL] I have this Toshiba and the sound device is just completely messed up and partly depends on if I have headphones plugged into the machine when booting it up: Then sometimes everything (Microphone, Headphone, Speakers) works fine. But other times the speakers do not work at all then only the headphones. If I have the headphone not plugged in than in 75% of cases (roughly) the speakers won't go mute when I plug the headphones in.

The microphone(s) is the biggest concern as I need the computer to use Skype. Obviously I would want the jack to work... They sometimes respond when booted, but other times not. They more often work when the microphone jack is plugged in, but fail after a little while, then sometimes they don't work at all. It frustrating, I have tried various models of the ALC272 driver, but none works for this machine.

Debian :: No Sound For Jack-plugged Headset Or Speakers After Resuming From Suspend

Sep 4, 2015

When I suspend my computer, everything resumes fine... but the sound. The sound actually still works for the internal speakers, but not anymore for any jack-plugged headset or speakers. If I reboot, it works again. I also see nothing in the logs (dmesg, /var/log/messages).

These two commands return the same thing before and after resuming:

Code: Select allwoowoo:~$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [HDMI           ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel HDMI
HDA Intel HDMI at 0xf7a14000 irq 34
 1 [PCH            ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf7a10000 irq 33

[Code].....

I also tried

Code: Select allsudo alsa force-reload

As it was recommended a lot when I googled it, but it seems that the alsa bin/script is not available on debian. It tells me repeatedly to install alsa-base, which was already installed. The following commands have been run one after the other, in that order:

Code: Select allroot:~# alsa force-reload

The program 'alsa' is currently not installed.  You can install it by typing:

apt-get install alsa-base
alsa: command not found
Code: Select allroot:~# sudo apt-get install alsa-base
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
alsa-base is already the newest version.

[Code] ....

How to prevent me from rebooting each time I need sound after suspending my computer?
