Fedora X86/64bit :: Work Correctly With Firefox 3.5 And F11 64bit?
Aug 15, 2009Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.
I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?

Jan 5, 2011Here's how to install latest Firefox on a 64 bit system (leaving your old firefox install untouched):
1. Get the latest Firefox tarball (64 bit) from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ and save it to whereever you like.
2. Make a new directory in /usr/lib64 and untar it there

3. We want to create a new user profile for Firefox 4. So start Firefox 4 profilemanager and create one.

Name the new profile whatever you like, I created a new profile named FF4b for example. Also before quitting make sure you click on the "default" profile so that you don't mess up your existing Firefox install.
4. You can now start Firefox 4 with the new profile:

Now you need to go to your .mozilla folder in your home directory and create a symlink for the flash plugin.

Now look for a folder which is associated with the firefox profile you created earlier. The folder name should end with the name you created it with. Mine was cay67zed.FF4b for example. Cd to that directory:

Oct 12, 2010I'm running Debian AMD64. I downloaded the flash square (64-bit) plugin, and in progressive attempts to get Firefox to see it, I put libflashplayer.so in the following places:
/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/
/opt/firefox/plugins/
And nothing, it still complains the plugin isn't installed. I even tried removing all instances of the file and running aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree (cos 32-bit flash is better than nothing), and it still didn't see it.

Apr 10, 2009I find myself in a bit of a pickle. Following a yum update which included FF 3.0.8 FireFox stopped working details can be found in Fedora Bug 494255. To keep going I installed FireFox (from Mozilla) in /home/user/firefox which works great now I've installed all the i386 stuff it wanted, I've got all my bookmarks, saved passwords etc BUT I can't get flash to work. I figured all I needed to do was put a link to libflashplayer.so in /home/user/firefox/plugins/ and we'd be good but when I go to a site with flash content FF crashes. I installed Leigh 123s X86-64 flash rpm and made a link to it as above and got the same result.

Apr 18, 2010the situation was that i had 2 fedora 12 boxen. one played flash videos with sound, and one did not! eventually i found the actual problem, and it was trivially fixed (i don't want to remember the many blind alleys i went into first...).
when i looked at
system ==> sound preferences ==> sound
and selected the 'applications' tab, i got the line:
"no application is currently running or recording audio.",
but the mute check box to the right of the 'output volume' slider at the top of the tab was unticked.
however, when i was running a flash video, i had a line:
"alsa plug-in (npviewer.bin) ..." with another mute check box on the right that was ticked! unticking this new mute check box, enabled firefox to play videos video's with sound!

Jun 29, 2010I'm having the same issue when running F11 or F13 x86_64 and getting the flash-plugin installed just doesn't seem to work. aboutlugins in the browser does not show that the plugin has been installed.
I've followed the instructions at [URL] to no avail. This problem is common to both Firefix and Chrome.
The file referred to in this step (nswrapper_32_64.libflashplayer.so) for google chrome does not exist on the filesystem, sudo ln -s /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins-wrapped/nswrapper_32_64.libflashplayer.so /opt/google/chrome/plugins/nswrapper_32_64.libflashplayer.so
I've ignore the sticky thread for this as I believe that this version of the adobe 64 bit plugin is vulnerable to this issue, [URL]
I've also tries the gnash-plugin and still no flash in either browser.

But it still doesn't work. But, when i change the java to 1.6.0_18 32 bit and then changing the reference to i386/libnpjp2.so, then it works. So the problem i have is only when using 64 bit java.

Aug 31, 2009I am using mepis 8 and everything is 32bit. Until recently I was using Firefox 3.0 and the flash player worked fine. However I recently upgraded a lot of my software though the packager manager including Firefox 3.5.2 and now Adobe Flash Player will not work. I have installed adobe flash player both through the package manager and when that did not work also from the Adobe website (Ubuntu 8.04.deb file.) Neither will work.
I have installed the libflashplayer.so file in all the appropriate plugin directories as per the instructions. I have even tried Konqueror but again flash does not work.
In the Plugin section of Firefox there is a plugin for Shockwave flash 10.0.r32 and it is enabled. Inserting aboutlugins in task bar of the browser displays details of plugins for mplayer, Quicktime and Realplayer but nothing about Adobe flash.

Jan 6, 2010i run ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, using firefox 3.5.6 (courtesy of ubuntuzilla) as my web browser. i've had a problem with some flash and/or shockwave objects simply refusing to work inside firefox, despite having 64-bit flash player and all necessary plugins/addons/extras etc. installed.
there is no pattern to the problems, other than all of them being flash or shockwave objects that won't play. the majority of videos videos do play, including hd ones. however, this morning i encountered a pair of videos clips that simply would not play. i could load the page they were on, but all i ever saw was a black box, with no audio, where the video should have been.
i also noticed that on some of the videos that do play, the flash player's built-in volume control does nothing. i can slide it up or down or mute it entirely, but the sound from the flash video is unaffected.
i'll post urls of the problem videos later, so others can try them.
meanwhile i was able to watch other videos videos without issue, on another tab, aside from the broken flash player volume control.
i've also had a problem with the [url] player for a radio station, which i believe uses shockwave. i like to listen to atlanta, ga's wsb 750 am radio in the mornings before work, but so far i have to do it on a virtual windows xp machine running firefox 3.5.6, under virtualbox. if i try to open the player in firefox 3.5.6 running in the host os (ubuntu 9.10), i get only a blank popup window. url is [url]; click the "listen live" box at upper left to try it.
both machines, the host ubuntu 9.10 install and the guest windows xp machine, use exactly the same ad-blocking hosts file. i use the noscript addon in the host os install of firefox, but i allow any and all scripts when visiting the radio station's website.
since the streaming radio works on the virtual xp machine, i'm pretty sure my network configuration, hosts file etc. have nothing to do with this.
has anyone else had this problem? the flash content really should be agnostic with respect to the host os and browser, shouldn't it?
i guess it could be some random problem with the 64-bit vs. the 32-bit version of the flash plugin, so i may try instaling 32-bit ubuntu on a virtual machine to find out whether there's a difference.

May 7, 2011I just upgraded my 11.4 firefox and flash to get rid of an apparent flash problem. Before the packman online upgrade, the event pulldown on yahoo finance didn't work. It behaves the same after the upgrade. I noticed on this site, I couldn't click the cursor into the simple search window. So from openSuse, firefox is third party, adobe is fourth party and yahoo is fifth party. Who owns this problem? The rest of my system is KDE 4.6.0 on HW 686 - 32 bit.
