Ubuntu :: 11.04 LTS 64bit - Flash Is Not Working/ Won't Install Correclty?
Jun 10, 2011
I am using the distro in the title and version, and I can't get flash to work properly either in konquer, or in chromium. I have looked in the package manager and it says flash has been installed. I tried again to install it through the terminal, it downloads a bit, and then it says that is installed as well. I know chrome in particular is supposed to come with flash built in so this is frustrating. How do I install flash and get it working? Never had this problem before

Adobe has discontinued the 64-bit linux version of flash-player. How can I get flash-player-32bit working in Chromium-64bit on Fedora 13 (x86_64)?

Is is possible to install Ubuntu Server 10.04 on USB Flash (pendrive) ?
I'm wondering could i create small dedicated server without hard drive.
I don't need high speed on "" drive.
I think i could mount home and all user data by NFS or iSCSI.
But question is about putting that on flash storage...
Any easy way to install in on pendrive ?

Did anybody tried installing the latest adobe flash named Square for amd64 systems? I was interested in knowing whether there is any improvement in the performance. I also want to know how to replace my existing 32 bit wrapper based flash on 64 bit browser and install this 64 bit flash.

Flash player won't work in my newly installed Fed 12 64.
libflashplayer.so is in /usr/lib/flash-plugin
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins contains a symlink to the file.
I thought maybe this was a permissions thing. I changed owner to me. No good. I read some other threads about clashes 32 bit/64 bit. Is this the problem? It worked fine before I had to do a new install.

I had an Ubuntu Server 32 bit installation and everything was working fine. Now that I installed Ubuntu Server 64bit on a new drive in the same machine, the ethernet card is not working!! This is insane cause when I put the hard disk with the 32bit installation back and booting from it, the ethernet card is working without any problems but in the 64bits installation it is not shown at all using "ifconfig -a"
lspci output:
Quote:
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications AR8151 v1.0 Gigabit Ethernet (rev c0)
How can I check which module is being loaded in the 32bits installation to try to load it manually in the 64 bits installation?

I've just upgraded to 64-bit Lucid and then tried to access the BBC iplayer. I got a message saying I needed a newer version of Flash, so I followed the link provided to the Adobe web site. However, there doesn't seem to be a 64-bit version available from there.
I'm sure I'm not the first person to have had this problem, but I couldn't find an obvious thread on it among the many flash-related ones, so how do I get a recent version of Flash installed in 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04? Have Adobe stopped creating 64-bit versions, or do they just not do a good job of identifying the architecture?

I installed 64bit flash last week when I installed Ubuntu 10.04 64bit on my new laptop, and for the past week it has worked without issues.
However a couple of day ago it simply stopped showing flash videos on sites such as ..... etc. I think there might have been a ream of updates around the time this happened but my memory is a little vague.
I have since tried installing the each of the 3 flash codecs in turn that Firefox recommends but these will not install, failing with an exit status of 2. After I tried this I followed the 64bit flash instructions on the Wiki once more to get back to the point when it previously worked but alas this has been of no help.
I have also tried loading flash videos in Chromium and these suffer from the same issue. Anyone have any ideas what could have caused flash to suddenly stop working?

I am trying to use the usb startup creator to make a xubuntu 10.10 ( with downloaded .iso) startup disk to a 2gb flash drive. I formatted the drive to ext4, and when I start the usb creator I get this error: "Failed to install the bootloader."
1. Should I have formatted the drive to ext4? In the usb creator instructions the author used ext3 as an example.
2. I am using the 64bit .iso file. I am trying to make the drive from a 64bit pc running ubuntu 10.04 (64bit).
3. If I can get this to work, will the 64bit flash drive then boot using a 32bit pc? (I wouldn't want to install it, but rather boot to use as a portable OS.)

i've suddenly got problems with flash - it was working fine until a cuple of days ago.i have flash 10.1.82. 76 ubuntu0.10.04.2 on ubuntu 10.04, but videos and other flash sites tell me i need to upgrade to the latest flash version 10.i've tried flash-aid, which seems to run ok but i still have the problem.at the same time, i can suddenly only run firefox tools > add-ons in safe mode - if i choose tools > addons in normal mode, fx locks up completely, and finally gives me the option to force quit. i've tried re-enabling add-ons one at a time, but no problem until i come out of safe mode.i'm wondering if this is a firefox problem rather than ubuntu or flash. my firefox is 3.6.8

I'm having the same issue when running F11 or F13 x86_64 and getting the flash-plugin installed just doesn't seem to work. aboutlugins in the browser does not show that the plugin has been installed.
I've followed the instructions at [URL] to no avail. This problem is common to both Firefix and Chrome.
The file referred to in this step (nswrapper_32_64.libflashplayer.so) for google chrome does not exist on the filesystem, sudo ln -s /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins-wrapped/nswrapper_32_64.libflashplayer.so /opt/google/chrome/plugins/nswrapper_32_64.libflashplayer.so
I've ignore the sticky thread for this as I believe that this version of the adobe 64 bit plugin is vulnerable to this issue, [URL]
I've also tries the gnash-plugin and still no flash in either browser.

Here's how to install latest Firefox on a 64 bit system (leaving your old firefox install untouched):
1. Get the latest Firefox tarball (64 bit) from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ and save it to whereever you like.
2. Make a new directory in /usr/lib64 and untar it there
Code:
3. We want to create a new user profile for Firefox 4. So start Firefox 4 profilemanager and create one.
Code:
Name the new profile whatever you like, I created a new profile named FF4b for example. Also before quitting make sure you click on the "default" profile so that you don't mess up your existing Firefox install.
4. You can now start Firefox 4 with the new profile:
5. If not already installed download flash player square plugin (64 bit) from [url]
Code:
Now you need to go to your .mozilla folder in your home directory and create a symlink for the flash plugin.
Code:
Now look for a folder which is associated with the firefox profile you created earlier. The folder name should end with the name you created it with. Mine was cay67zed.FF4b for example. Cd to that directory:
Code:
Make a plugins directory and put the symlink there:
Code:
If you want, you can create a launcher for Firefox 4 on your desktop or taskbar with the following command option:
Code:

I've installed Fedora 15 64bit version yesterday, first time using Fedora ever, I like it so far, but there's one thing that's bugging me. It's the flashplayer. I'm using 64bit version of adobe flash player called "Square", which work's fine for ....., but when i try to switch to full screen on site warcraftmovies(they're using player Minoto i believe) it's working strange. If I open a new Firefox and I haven't played any other video from ..... for instance, it works fine and switches to full screen no problem, but If i exit full screen and try to switch to full screen again, it will give me only black screen. If i click on the window border of firefox the video comes up again, but not maximized, only normal window. I tried running firefox from terminal to see erorrs and whenever i try to maximize the player it gives me this error

I'm running Debian AMD64. I downloaded the flash square (64-bit) plugin, and in progressive attempts to get Firefox to see it, I put libflashplayer.so in the following places:
/usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins/
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/
/opt/firefox/plugins/
And nothing, it still complains the plugin isn't installed. I even tried removing all instances of the file and running aptitude install flashplugin-nonfree (cos 32-bit flash is better than nothing), and it still didn't see it.

I find myself in a bit of a pickle. Following a yum update which included FF 3.0.8 FireFox stopped working details can be found in Fedora Bug 494255. To keep going I installed FireFox (from Mozilla) in /home/user/firefox which works great now I've installed all the i386 stuff it wanted, I've got all my bookmarks, saved passwords etc BUT I can't get flash to work. I figured all I needed to do was put a link to libflashplayer.so in /home/user/firefox/plugins/ and we'd be good but when I go to a site with flash content FF crashes. I installed Leigh 123s X86-64 flash rpm and made a link to it as above and got the same result.
