I have a very strange problem.Few days ago everything was working fine.Now every site I'm developing under /var/www doesn't open at all.If i have a file /var/www/siteone/index.php, when i try to open http://localhost/siteone/index.php it's not opening. For some reason I get an empty field for the command echo $DISPLAY. and as a result an xclock command results in error: can't open display. I tried to set it to localhost:10.0 and I get: Error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0
I've tried :0.0 and I get: Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keyError: Can't open display: :0.0 ssh used to work about a week ago before I performed various security updates. I was wondering what' the solution to this. I checked the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and ssh_config file both have X11 forwarding on. Can anyone with more experience out there give me any ideas?
When I attempt to use Putty for xterm (to run DBCA for Oracle) I check x11 and put my IP Address in the Display field of putty. However, when I then try to execute ./dbca I receive the following:
Xlib: connection to "localhost:10.0" refused by server
Xlib: PuTTY X11 proxy: wrong authentication protocol attempted
Error: Can't open display: localhost:10.0
I notice the following when logging in to the server as well.
Last login: Fri Mar 19 13:51:19 2010 from 10.47.48.33 /usr/X11R6/bin/xauth: error in locking authority file /home/oracle/.Xauthority. These are the same steps I take successfully on all the servers. The above file exists on the servers I can initiate the GUI, but not on <server1>.

Our server's been running smoothly before but i dunno what happened. I can send mails to gmail and yahoo as well... but there are like 3 domains which we cannot send mails to.
I am still a newbie at Linux, but have managed to get about 6 different Kubuntu systems up and all running a localhost test web server. I always start out with a server .iso and after installing I add a kubuntu desktop GUI. I have an old laptop that was running 8.04 server w/xubuntu desktop gui and it was running my test web pages through localhost. I got a wild hair and thought it was about time to upgrade to 10.04 server. I always do a complete install and this time I tried lubuntu desktop GUI. I really like lubuntu but for some reason can not get localhost to run. I get a 402 forbidden error. same error with 127.0.0.1 Here is what I get when I run this command

To configure webmail in linux5, I�ve followed below procedures:
-Squirrelmail-1.4.2.tar.gz and unzipped under the folder /var/www/html
-cd squirrelmail-1.4.2
-cd config
-within this directory, ./conf.pl
-From main menu, I did choose 2 for domain (i.e. arafapparels.com). This is my official domain
-Then save and exit
-For IMAP setting, I did choose D
-Selected uw and save, then exit
-Then from command line, I wrote chown �R apache.apache /var/www/html/data (I created folder data in the above path)
-I created a folder named as attach to keep attachment in /var/www/html i.e. /var/www/html/attach
-Then typed grep �R apache /var/www/html/attach
-Then typed chmod 730 /var/www/html/mail/attach (Here squirrelmail-1.4.2 directory has been moved to mail directory)
-Then from web browser/Internet explorer, I typed http://localhost/mail/
-Here Username & Password appears. Previously I have created username.
-But when put Username & Password, below error message displays

I installed WordPress 3.x on my localhost/Apache server, but I can neither install plugins nor update anything.This happens with both the stable WP3.0 version and the 3.1 beta. When I try to search the Plugin Directory from the WP dashboard, I get this message: An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request.When I run an update, I get a page asking for the login credentials for the ftp user ("To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host."). Since I'm part of the 'ftp' group on the system, I enter my system login information, click Proceed -- and get a blank page that does nothing.
I've gone to YaST, and I see that the system ftp user has a 6-character password (which may or may not be mine). I'm afraid to change it and risk screwing up other ftp-related functions. I'm running openSUSE 11.3, and am obsessive about updating. I will note that I have an old 2WIRE router that often requires me (including Zypper repos) to enter IP addresses instead of DNS-based URLs to successfully download stuff. Not sure if this is related, but just in case...
for some reason root lost grant privileges and I can't get it back. The user got grant_priv = 'Y' in the usertable. I've tried to reset all the priviliges to the user by killing MySQL process and started up again without grant options with no luck. 1) How do I know MYSQL is actually active ? (apart from the message it says that its statrted (or stopped).
2) Is there a way to
a) Find out the usernames that are recorded on the MYSQL server ?
b) set / RESET the 'root' username (I know MYSQL root user is different to PC root user)

I was trying to play some mp3s and mp4s in my totem but keep on getting this error report of which I have attached some screenshots. I also tried to download some things that I usually put on my system such as: vlc, ffmpeg, dvdbackup, dvdrip, audacity, thoggen, handbrake, audacious & sound converter but I fail in the process.

Ubuntu 9.10 was set up to handle the booting selection - previously I thought it was xp but Ubuntu 9.10 "did" it. The system started out as a xp / ubuntu 9.10 dual boot on a 400gb drive. xp has 210gb, ub has 80 and their is a 100gb shared storage. Xp was installed first and then I followed a guide over at linuxconfig.org to get ub installed so that I could select which OS was wanted at boot. Ubuntu manages the boot up menu (Went back to look at my notes from the original setup) The owner tried to update to ub 11.04 and afterall was said and done the machine now boots to the message
error file not found grub rescue I can't say if 11.04 was properly installed or not. Ask whatever you like and I'll give the best answer I can. I think the xp install is okay but I can't say for certain as I don't know how to boot it outside the bootmanager at startup. Data has been saved so if I have to blow it all away and start over I can but I'm hoping I won't have to.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Apache on Lucid Lynx (Macbook 1.1) using the following tutorial: [URL] Everything appears to work correct except that when I browse http://localhost/ in Firefox, I cannot see any of the directories. Although, files such as html documents are visible. When I view the /var/www directory using the default graphical file browser, all of its child directories have Xs over their icons. When I attempt to open the directory "js", the following error message displays:The folder contents could not be displayed.
You do not have the permissions necessary to view the contents of "js".
I figured this was preventing Firefox from viewing the directories. So I launched it with the "gksu" command to see if it would help. I still couldn't see directories when browsing http://localhost/ I'm basically trying to achieve functionality identical to the MAMP local server for Mac OS X. Basically this is what's happening. I can receive mail in my Maia Mailguard everything works fine.
However in my Spam Cache if I were to get an item say that was not meant to be spam and I try to release it so it goes into my inbox I get this error (see below)
Now I'm trying to figure out where I would give it permission to connect to that IP?
On a side note the error has an IP of 192.168.96.30. With that IP I get a connection refused error
If I were to put Localhost it gives me an error of "Could not find Network_addr"
So I'm trying to figure out what this error means and why I can't release any kind of spam to enter my mail box?
I think it has something to do with the way it is connecting to my exchange? or MySQL?
I have found that APACHE or 'httpd' is installed in my machine. But the problem is I can start or stop the httpd but whenever I load the url http://localhost in Mozilla it shows a page load error.I have done this ,

I have a long running 9.10 installation. All of a sudden, on boot, I get this error: "loading initial ramdisk error: file not found" If I hit 'E' at the menu entry, I can scroll all the way to the end of the boot command, and it appears that the last 'c' on 'generic' is missing from the kernel name. If I add the c and hit ctrl-x it boots fine. The grub.cfg appears to be correct, it has the full generic spelled out.
