Networking :: WebMail I.e. Squirrelmail Setup / Error Connecting To IMAP Server: Localhost?

Apr 11, 2010

To configure webmail in linux5, Ive followed below procedures:

-Squirrelmail-1.4.2.tar.gz and unzipped under the folder /var/www/html
-cd squirrelmail-1.4.2
-cd config
-within this directory, ./conf.pl
-From main menu, I did choose 2 for domain (i.e. arafapparels.com). This is my official domain
-Then save and exit
-For IMAP setting, I did choose D
-Selected uw and save, then exit
-Then from command line, I wrote chown R apache.apache /var/www/html/data (I created folder data in the above path)
-I created a folder named as attach to keep attachment in /var/www/html i.e. /var/www/html/attach
-Then typed grep R apache /var/www/html/attach
-Then typed chmod 730 /var/www/html/mail/attach (Here squirrelmail-1.4.2 directory has been moved to mail directory)
-Then from web browser/Internet explorer, I typed http://localhost/mail/
-Here Username & Password appears. Previously I have created username.
-But when put Username & Password, below error message displays

Error connecting to IMAP server: localhost
13: Permission denied
But I gave permission by chmod 777 /var/www/html/mail and by using 555 but no result.

Ubuntu Servers :: Internal Only Webmail / Can't Get Authentication Setup With Squirrelmail?

Nov 7, 2010

What is the fastest setup to do this? All I want is an internally authenticated webmail server that other servers can send mail to for collection of test emails. Don't need LDAP or anything fancy, just a internal LAN only webmail server. I've got Squirrelmail setup on Ubuntu Server and can't get authentication setup with Squirrelmail and every tutorial I read is way over complicated or has nothing on how to authenticate Squirrelmail with internal, system users.

Software :: SquirrelMail - When Browse To Myserver.com/webmail It Always Just Times Out

Jun 27, 2010

I've been using SquirrelMail a long time, and it's been such a no-brainer I must be missing something easy here. I clean-installed an F13 system and my browser verifies apache and php work properly. dovecot is running. I can send and receive email using emacs's RMAIL. I installed SquirrelMail with yum, edited its config.php, but when I browse to myserver.com/webmail it always just times out. No errors or access recorded in apache's logs. Nothing in maillog. It just times out with no further information.

Fedora Networking :: Setup A Single Imap Server To Pop3 Service ?

Mar 31, 2010

My actual mail is via pop3 from verizon. What I've done so far is just pull my pop3 mail onto my main machine at my house. But I'm finding I'd rather have a single imap server on my network so then all my machines could see the same mail.

I don't really want the imap server to poll verizon for mail, I just want the imap server to check pop3 mail at verizon only when one of my mail apps checks into it to look for mail.

Fedora :: Evolution Refuses To Connect Localhost IMAP Server

Nov 21, 2010

I have a strange problem with evolution in Fedora 14. I run my own mail servers (Postfix and Dovecot) on localhost. This all worked great in F13 but now evolution refuses to connect to the localhost imap server. If I connect from my laptop (also F14) i.e. not from the localhost all works fine and great with evolution. I deleted all the config and started again to no avail. I also created a new user and logged in with this user and I still get the same so looks not to be user config issue.
evolution --debug=evo.debug.txt returns nothing useful.
Dovecot is listening on localhost as I can telnet to the imap port. Also other imap clients like Thunderbird work fine.

Ubuntu Servers :: Setup The MYSQL Server - Error: 'Access Denied For User 'root'@'localhost' (using Password: NO)'

Mar 26, 2010

I set up a servber on my local machine, & also PHp - Both working fine.I'm trying to load up MYSQL i have installed it, & *can* start/stop the server. however if I do anything else with it, I get this error :-

Quote:

root@gordon-desktop:~# sudo mysqladmin -u root -h localhost password MYPASSWORD
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'

Query :-

1) How do I know MYSQL is actually active ? (apart from the message it says that its statrted (or stopped).

2) Is there a way to

a) Find out the usernames that are recorded on the MYSQL server ?
b) set / RESET the 'root' username (I know MYSQL root user is different to PC root user)
c) anything else I can do on the PHP / website code to see if MYSQL is working

(as yet, no tables / databases etc have been set up - as I can't get past this error message - I get the same error when setting up a database.)

Ps I did allow my usermname (when logged in to ubuntu) to edit / create files in the /usr/www/ directory (but it is still OWNED by 'root' - that directory)

Fedora Servers :: Squirrelmail: Can't Access Localhost

Jun 1, 2010

I'm running Fedora 12 on x86_64. I've installed squirrelmail, along with dovecot on my office server, and cannot access it through http://localhost/webmail. I have followed all the configuration steps I could find (including http://www.server-world.info/en/note...12&p=httpd&f=7).

I know that everything else is working (I can send and receive mail, access IMAP mailboxes, webserver is working), browsing to

http://localhost/webmail

just gives me

"Problem loading page"

in Firefox. Sometimes, however the message is "Unable to connect."

I will add that I already tried installing Squirrelmail on another (i686) machine and had exactly the same problem.

/var/log/httpd/error_log says:

File does not exist: /var/www/html/squirrelmail

This makes it seem like aliasing is not working somehow.

General :: Setup A Functioning Imap And Pop3 Mail Server Using Dovecot-postfix?

May 4, 2010

I'm somewhat familiar with Linux and became pretty decent at installing and configuring packages in Ubuntu. One of the things I was able to do with my tinkering was set up a functioning imap and pop3 mail server using dovecot-postfix. Now I'm experimenting with Slackware to get the feel of another distro, and I noticed that the mail server packages were already installed. On my client computer they can pick up that I have users configured and my mx record is working.

However it is failing to send mail saying that it is failing to relay the e-mail message and that the server responded 5.7.1 which was a problem that I was having in Ubuntu when first configuring the mail server. The fix was to edit the postfix.conf file and adding the localhost name of my server. Does anybody know of the file that I need to edit to make it possible to relay my messages with both pop3 and imap.

Server :: Error: Connection Dropped By IMAP With Dovecot

Apr 19, 2011

I am running SquirrelMail version 1.4.8-5.el5.centos.10 on a CentOS 5.6 64-bit distribution with MailScanner 4.83.4, Sendmail 8.13.8/8.13.8, and Dovecot 1.0.7 release. One user is having problems connecting via the SquirrelMail interface to his e-mail. Whenever he tries to connect, he gets the following error message:

Quote:

Error: Connection dropped by IMAP server with dovecot

I have tested another user account, and that user is able to connect without issue. I confirmed the presence of dovecot.index, dovecot.index.cache, and dovecot.index.log files in the user's <HOME DIR>/mail/.imap/INBOX folder. The /var/log/maillog files do not list any apparent error messages with SquirrelMail.

Ubuntu Servers :: Cannot Establish TLS With IMAP Server 10.0.0.2:143, SSL_connect Error 336142597

I've had Dovecot up and running for months now without any problems whatsoever. Came in this morning and suddenly I can't connect to it. Thunderbird hangs with "Checking mail server capabilities..." and Windows Mail spits out the following error:

Configuration:

Server :: Dovecot IMAP And Subfolders - Mac's Mail Application And Thunderbird - Both Come Up With Error

Mar 18, 2010

I'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

Ubuntu Servers :: HTML PHP Email Configuration / Squirrelmail Setup

Sep 1, 2011

I'm having problems with emails containing HTML content. When Google downloads the email messages via POP3 from my squirrelmail server, the message does not display using HTML. I'm not sure if this is Google's fault or Squirrelmail's fault, but I've never had problems before on other servers running the same script and using squirrelmail. If I login to squirrelmail, I have the option to download the email message as an attachment. The attachment, if opened by my local browser, shows up as HTML content, and it is properly formatted. However, I'm using Google to download my emails and file them under my Gmail account. After Gmail downloads the messages, it shows up like this:

From
To admin@domainRemoved.com
Date Sat, Jul 30, 2011 at 6:07 PM
Subject Pending Registration

Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1
From: Name Removed <admin@domainRemoved.com>
Message-Id: <20110730234302.6B6FEDC08BA@eric-desktop>
Date: Sat, 30 Jul 2011 17:43:02 -0600 (MDT)

<p><b> After registering your client via your server, please visit the following URL to send them confirmation: </b></p>

I really need it to show up properly once Gmail downloads the messages, as it takes a long time to login to Squirrel mail and download each message as an attachment. My PHP Code Headers Look like this:
$headers = 'MIME-Version: 1.0' . " ";
$headers .= 'Content-type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1' . " ";
$headers .= "From: $uname <$email>";

Someone suggested that I remove the from my script. I did, and now the email shows a from sender as www-data www-data@domain.com. Before, the from field showed up as empty. However, my PHP script is designed to change the sender's information to the clients that contact me. Thus, if customer A contacts me, the email should be from customer A <custa@whatever.com>. However, it's not being changed by the PHP script. It works on every other server but mine. I think my postfix configuration isn't setup properly? What needs to be configured on it?

(my goal after they see each other is to share files back and forth. and also to have one of them control the others with some type of remote desktop. but thats for another day.)

Ubuntu :: Connecting To OpenLDAP On Localhost Using Ldaps:///

Feb 21, 2011

I've just setup OpenLDAP on Ubuntu Server 10.04.2 following this guide:

[URL]

It's mostly working well, but I do have one issue. I thought that after configuring TLS that it would be best to disable access via other means to keep connections to the LDAP server more secure, before doing so I wanted to check that I could actually connect to OpenLDAP on the localhost using the following command:

ldapmodify -Y EXTERNAL -H ldaps:///

But got the following output:

TLS: can't connect: (unknown error code).
ldap_sasl_interactive_bind_s: Can't contact LDAP server (-1)
additional info: (unknown error code)

This looks like some simple misconfiguration on my part, but I can't see where it's wrong, nor could I find any answers by googling.

I should point out that I'm able to connect to the LDAP server from a different host on the network using ldaps:/// (via Apache Directory Studio), so I'm quite surprised that I can connect from another system, but not via the loopback.

At this stage this is really a learning exercise for me, I just want to get to grips with LDAP and I find that when starting out the best thing to do is play with the actual configs to get to know my way around, but this has me stumped.

I imagine this is either a very simple config issue or I'm trying to do something that isn't necessary. I'd really like to understand what I'm doing wrong or alternatively why trying to do this is unnecessary/irrelevant.

[Edit] In summary my main goal is to only allow secured access to the LDAP server, not transmit data in plaintext across the network.

Ubuntu Security :: Pgadmin3 Through Ssh Tunnel - Error Connecting To The Server: Server Closed The Connection Unexpectedly

host: localhost
port: 5432
user: postgres
maintenance db: postgres

And I receive the following error:

An error has occurred: Quote: An error has occurred: Error connecting to the server: server closed the connection unexpectedly This probably means the server terminated abnormally before or while processing the request.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I can connect with Code: psql from the cli after connecting to the terminal via ssh. So I know that I'm using the correct password.

Ubuntu Networking :: Access Web Server On Localhost?

May 27, 2010

I have a laptop with Apache, MySQL, PHP, etc, and I'm able to work on web programming on my local server while at home, connected to my network. But I would like to be able to work on the local websites when I'm not connected to any networks, both for demonstrating a site, or simply working on it.

I was surprised to find that I could not connect to localhost at all without a network connection. I tried my normal Google for a solution, but, of course, that was futile without a network.

Now, I'm at home, and of course, it works because I have wireless. I don't really want to disconnect that to figure it out, so I thought maybe some nice soul here might know how to do this. Surely it can't be hard, can it? But, it's certainly not obvious.
