Ubuntu :: Maverick Doesn't Show Sub-menus / Show That?
Oct 14, 2010Anyway since I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10 when I right-click on something and there is another menu in that menu, it doesn't show up for the first time!
for example if I want to create a an "Empty File", I'll right-click on desktop and when I want to go to "Create Document" menu, it doesn't show up! so I must click somewhere else and try again so for the second time it works!!
Networking :: Wireless Tools Doesn't Refresh APs Properly
Feb 17, 2010I need to monitorize which Wi-Fi APs are in coverage, so periodically I perform a scan whith "sudo iwlist ath0 scan". The problem appears when disconnecting an AP (from the electrical network). In this case, iwconfig shows the disconnected AP during 30-40 seconds after the disconnection.
I'm trying to figure out how to order the kernel to actually refresh the list of in coverage APs, and avoid to show nets that were in coverage but aren't now.

Ubuntu :: Texmaker In OS Does Not Run Winedt Files In Windows
Mar 19, 2011I have run my files on windows using latex and winedit as editor and miktex as compiler.
When I installed Texmaker in ubuntu 10.10 I was not able to run those file that have already been run in windows. Is there any configuration that should I do to make these files compatible for texmaker? or what should I do? By the way, I am not preferring to change from texmaker, but if there is any similar editor better than that , please let me know. What is the compiler that is working in Texmaker, and is it true that it is being installed with Ubuntu its self.

Ubuntu :: Can't Find TexLive Files For Setting Up Texmaker
May 7, 2010I have installed both TexLive and Texmaker (using the package manager). Now I am trying to set up Texmaker to use TexLive for compiling. Everything I can find online suggests that the files should be located in a location such as this:

/usr/local/texlive/2005/bin/i386-linux
However, for me the "texlive" folder does not exist within "/usr/local". Where else might the necessary files be located?
Also, running

tex -version
suggests that TexLive 2009 is installed correctly.

General :: 64-bit Doesn't Show 4GB RAM
Jun 4, 2011I'm using a 64-bit release. But, my PC doesn't seem to show the full 4GB of RAM that is installed. It shows about 3.4 to 3.6GB of RAM (please see attached picture).I thought that if I could install a 64-bit OS that would mean that I have a 64-bit capable processor. I thought using a 64-bit release would show all 4GB or RAM on my PC. What am I doing wrong? My CPU is a Pentium 4 Prescott DT 630.

Ubuntu :: Doesn't Mobloquer Show Anything In The Log?
Feb 9, 2011So, now that I got http://bit.ly/h70Nnf sorted out, how come doesn't my Mobloquer show anything in the log. I'm used to Peer Guardian 2 in Windows and I know it has to show some more stuff than nothing.. Your help is sincerely appreciated cuz I'm so new to Ubuntu. FYI: Mobloquer and Peer Guardian 2 are IP blocking programs.

Jul 5, 2011I an trying to install ubuntu onto my old Windows XP computer, I have burned the **** with the ISO files on it with a Mac and also tried using Windows 7, they have the files when I load them on those, but when I go to put the disk in my Windows XP computer it say's the disk is blank. I reboot my computer, and it doesn't try to install anything.

Aug 7, 2010I reinstalled Debian today, and changed partition tables. Now I have 4 partitions, 3 of which are encrypted, including / (root). Everything was fine at first, but now, instead of the partition label I've chosen, I see this: 120 GB Unrecognized Everything works fine, I just don't understand what this is all about.
EDIT 1:I don't understand something else too, which might be related. First time, I didn't need to enter root password for things like Synaptic and so, is this somehow related? (Now I'm being asked for, like normal way)
EDIT 2: I know the label is ROOT, I used e2label. But it still doesn't show the right name...
Fedora :: Eclipse - CDT Doesn't Show A Selection For C++

However when creating a new project, no option fpr C++ is shown.
Obviously Eclipse doesn't know CDT exists!

I can double-click the Swiftfox.desktop icon in /usr/share/applications, and Swiftfox runs properly. However, it's not listed in the KDE menu.Is there a way to manually update the menu?I didn't have this problem with the previous version of openSuse on this computer. But I did a fresh install, rather than update to 11.3.

Feb 21, 2011my cpu usage goes way up. Top doesn't show anything using the cpu to any great extent. I did a "ps -ax" and statred doing process kills. I kiilled a dbus pre-fork first, which brought, which stopped the cpu hogging. This is the process line:
/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 7 --session
Does anyone know what that does, or what I killed?

Jun 29, 2011I use gtranslator to translate po files. Gtranslator worked fine on 11.3 but when I installed 11.4 it crashed. I opened a Bug report here. Although I followed instructions, I couldn't solve it. Now I use Gnome 3. I installed gtranslator from the page where it says about Gnome 3. Now my gtranslator is 2.90. Now when I open a file, it returns the following image The numbers you see below are the words. I don't see a thing. I can move to next word but I still cannot see anything.

Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8700 @ 2.53GHz, 3MB L2 Cache 1066 MHz
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator x4500HD
4GB RAM
250 GB Hard Drive SATA 7200RPM
I'm experiencing overheating problems, after just 15-20 minutes of minimal use (surfing the internet, not even watching flash vids or any other vids). The same laptop under Windows 7 64 bit stayed really cool.
I've read several posts here and followed this manual: [URL] to try to control the fans (I only installed the lm-sensors and ran the sensors command, I didn't do anything beyond that). Specifically what I did was install lm-sensors (via apt-get), ran sensors-detect which advised me to add the coretemp module to /etc/modules, which I did.
However when running sensors the only information I get is the overall temperature and the temperature of each of the cores.
why I'm not getting fan speed info when running sensors? Also is there a way to find out if more modules needs to be added to /etc/modules?

Aug 8, 2010why the bootloader won't show up when I turn on the PC. The only things that come up with search results are 'Why ubuntu isn't on the boatloader' but my problem is is that the boot loader doesn't even SHOW UP.
Installation went completely fine, downloaded a version 10 32-bit iso file and then put in the folder with wibu and it asked me to restart. Restarted the PC, nothing came up so I thought you might have to restart again, restarted again, still no bootloader.
After looking in the 'Add/Remove Programs' of Windows it does say it's installed, so why the bootloader isn't showing up is rather mindbobbling.

I love Ubuntu, but I also want to be able to access Windows 7 if I can. I've read some on GRUB, but the menu on startup isn't showing my Windows 7 instance. I've tried reinstalling GRUB, but when I run sudo update-grub, I still get this:

1) Change proxy to connect "Directly to the internet"
2)In Preferences, "Load images from contacts".
3)I tried the option "Load Images" ou CTRL+I.
Ubuntu Networking :: 10.10 Doesn't See My Realtek NIC / Show That?
Oct 12, 2010I have an ASUS M4A785-m and it has the Realtek 8112L gigabit nic. The weird thing is, the 10.10 rc saw the nic card just fine, and windows sees the card so it's not disabled in the bios.
Ubuntu says i have no network connections and i need to get internet. Any suggestions?
I should also note that i'm running from the livecd and lspci shows that it detects my NIC. but my NIC isn't "detected" in that it can be used.
Ubuntu :: Empathy Doesn't Show Picture?
Oct 14, 2010I've just upgraded to Maverick and as the Me menu works with Empathy I started to use it as my default IM client.
But no matter what I do, it won't show my picture.
I tried resizing the picture to 96x96, I tried to convert it from jpg to png. I tried uninstalling the program with apt-get remove --purge. I tried also removing the ~/config/Empathy directory and all others related to the program and then reinstalling it but nothing seems to work.
I even made a video aboout it, maybe I'm doing something wrong: [URL]

Nov 29, 2010Nautlius doesn't show all the files that are in a folder From the screenshots below you can see that there are more files in the folder (ls from the terminal shows them all), however nautilus doesn't. Other .mkv files show up in other folders so its not that

Jan 14, 2011I installed it from a cd and it wouldn't work. (froze in the process). I then tried to install it through windows wubi and that didn't work (wouldnt boot) since I was unaware it was a known issue and thought it was me doing something wrong I uninstalled it,reformatted the hard drive and tried to install via a cd again this time it fully iinstalled but when I rebooted it tells me unable to mount drives and a shell will be shown.
in the end I have no files on ubuntu so I would like to clean up all reminance of the previous installs and be able to use a working install. since I have been installing and reistalling for the better part of 8 hours.Yexcuse the post sloppiness using my phone)
