Jul 28, 2010It doesn't appear there is going to be any resolution to the Netflix streaming issue anytime soon.
Does anyone know of anything else out there besides Hulu that offers a service like that which IS Linux-compatible.
It's really nice to be able to stream a movie on your laptop sometimes. Are there any alternatives out there to Netflix streaming for us?

You compile drivers, set everything up right, and it doesn't work?

Apr 21, 2011I have currently installed Linux Mint 10 Gnome 32-bit edition and I have a iPod Touch 2nd gen with 32GB.I was able to see the music(mp3 files) in my iPod touch in linux mint 8 and 9. But currently I have the following issues:When I connect my iPod Touch with the system I got two popup asking me You have just inserted digital audio player.ose what applications to launch"ou have just inserted a medium with digital photos. Choose what applications to launch"I know that these are popups are normal. I currently dnot have any photos or videos in my iPod Touch(will try to add them in the future) so I used Rhythmbox to open the music present in my iPod touch. I'm able to find my iPod under "Devices" in Rhythmbox. But when I click it, Rhythmbox shows that there are no music present in my iPod Touch by showing "0 artist" and "0 Albums".
However I know for sure that there are definitely songs in my iPod since I'm able to browse and play songs directly from my iPod. Is there any way to resolve this? I have also tried opening it in banshee but with the same result.I tried to drag and drop songs present in my library of rhythmbox to my iPod and this does not do any thing. Previously in LM 8 or 9, when I do drag and drop I will be able to see my new songs in my iPod.
General :: Printer Doesnt Work On Mint?
Feb 28, 2010my printer is not listed the type of drivers it mentions to download in plug and play.the drivers listed dont come close to the number(465cn).I have a brother mfc-465cnwhere do i find the drivers that will be compatible. generic diver listed didnt work or other numbers listed under the 'brother' or 'mfc' brandI went to the open printer website and my printer isnt listed there either. just brother and some other mfc's but nothing near what my printer is.

I stream Audio through internet well but videos I can stream locally in my network only .. when I am connected to internet outside my network .. it doesn't stream I think their must be ports opened for that .. or any 1 have any ideas .. the audio is streamed on port 8000 .. video is streamed on port 7070 but locally only .. Mar 21, 2011I'm looking for great audio player that has it all - sound quality, easy to use, functionality and eye-candy if possible. For Windows there is plenty great players - Foobar2000, Winamp, Apollo(sound quality isn't skinnable), The KMPlayer etc... but my favourite is AIMP2 - it's awesome for people who have lot of music files and want everything from other players.. I tried QMMP and Audacious(remade XMMS) and Amarok but they doesn't offer much.. Also i tried run AIMP2 with wine but it doesn't work in Mint 9(it did on Ubuntu Ultimate 2.8 though for some reason) and foobar2000 but some features of this program are blocked in wine like equalizer preset load + firefox addon to control foobar while browsing web can't be used aswell..i also went through alternative list(P.S.) but i don't see anything close..

Apr 25, 2010running kubuntu 9.10 karmic koala, and my sound settings -at first glance- seem to be in order... a strange thing is occurring, is my machine haunted? my sound works when:
a. the machine boots up
b. files are played in dragon player
c. the machine shuts down
my sound does not work when:
1. i try to play streaming flash videos online (e.g. videos videos show the image but no sound will play)
2. the same goes for vlc media player: images yes, sound no.
3. i use skype *edit: additional problem*
i made no changes, that i know of, to my machine before this started happening. one day everything was working fine and i turned off my machine to go to sleep. the next day, i turn on my machine, and surprise, the sound doesn't work in some instances.

It worked for a while and then I turned on Shift Switcher and a message popped up saying..."The new value for the button binding for the action Terminate in plugin Shift Switcher conflicts with the action Zoom Window of the Scale Addons plugin. Do you wish to disable Zoom Window in the Scale Addons plugin?" I was given the option of Set Terminate anyway, Don't set Terminate, and Disable Zoom Window. I clicked Don't set Terminate and ever since the only thing that works in compiz are the bindings in the general options. I've used synaptic to completely remove and then reinstall compiz but the problem persist. Something else weird, all of the changes I made are still there, even after complete removal, but they don't work?

Feb 16, 2011I just recently (about an hour ago) installed Ubuntu Netbook edition on my old laptop, and I was greeted with the message, that unity could not be run due to some sort of missing driver...fair enough, I was then greeted with the default Ubuntu desktop, I installed all my needed software (wine, google chrome) and installed the missing display drivers. I then rebooted the system, and once again I am stuck with the default desktop, and not the Unity interface. I checked the software center, and it says Unity IS in fact installed.. And yet I cannot make it appear. So now I ask you Ubuntu veterans. How do I make it work?
P.S. I wiped the system of windows, and the computer is an old HP Pavilion DV6000

Sep 13, 2010I put vbox on my wife's Dell Inspiron 6000 to play Netflix but the video won't play. After buffering it says there's an "internet connection problem". From what I've read that means the connection is too slow. Netflix works fine on my wired desktop (also Lucid+vbox) and on the same laptop booting into Windows (not VM). So I'm thinking there's a problem with vbox slowing the connection between the laptop's wireless and the VM?
I don't know if it will help with Netflix but 2D video acceleration is grayed out on vbox. Strangely, the 3D acceleration is fine and I can select it. If this is due to an unsupported video driver, can I change it?

I think it's REALLY close to working. I can open netflix, and hit the play button, at what point it goes through a "please wait while this installs" then finishes, giving me a screen with the netflix streaming controls, and sits at a screen saying "Thanks for installing, once installation is complete please restart your browser to watch this movie." If I restart the browser, it does it again. I think it might be more of a firefox configuration, something to tell it that silverlight is there instead of trying to re-install it. It's registering as an installed plugin but silverlight test sites work albeit very slowly and with mixed results.
