View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying out gnome-shell right now and for some reason, when I use the alt-tab shortcut, it switches to the next window and then the menu immediately disappears, so I have no ability to look at the detailed menu option. This might have something to do with me having changed a lot of my keyboard shortcuts in regular gnome. For example, I use super-tab rather than mod4-tab. Also, my key to call up the shell is caps lock because my other two super keys (super and right control) are all assigned to various keyboard shortcuts.

Pressing Alt /f2 doesn't doesn't come up either so I can't type 'unity --reset' I guess that's the command for restoring defaults to the screen. Rebooting the system the same thing happens. It appears to be locked up without menu's and function keys

I've just read this thread: [URL] and the information it seems is a bit out of date and a risk to use. I felt more comfortable with the .gtkrc-2.0 file suggested a few posts in, but it doesn't work, in that it turns the panel to the Raleigh-themed one which we always get when there's some kind of error in a gtkrc file, as those of us that have dabbled in theming will know.
It's comical that this minor but unnecessary eyesore goes back so far and hasn't been dealt with, but is there any new info about this, a new method, for 10.10? I don't want to be doing compiling or to risk messing things up, as has been caused by the directions in the other thread, because I've been experimenting with different distros for two years, just bought a new hard drive, and have settled now.
Maybe someone here knows why the .gtkrc-2.0 file hasn't worked for me? I twigged that the panel (though not the rest of the theme, i.e. in program windows) had turned to Raleigh because of those ugly handles pertaining to the Window List panel applet and the one to the left of the notification area. I used the exact file in that other thread, I tried logging out and in and then rebooting, and I even tried pasting the file's contents into the gtkrc file of the theme I use. If you need to know, I'm using the 'Lush' Metacity window border and the 'Redmond' engine.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04LTS and receive regular software updates. Being a silver-surfer I frequent an old fogies site called "Beyond the realms of AOL - forumotion.net" where we share memories and the like. The site (message board) has a rolling menu which up until recently worked on my computer ... now it doesn't! When I log-in, the rolling menu pops up for a second and then disappears. I get the feeling that one of the regular upgrades has removed a plugin or something from my system. I have Adobe Flash 10 (latest version) installed ... perhaps I'm missing something! It has to be my system because the rolling menu works perfectly well using Windows XP.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just noticed my Dolphin compress service menu doesn't compress anything except for '*.zip'. It used to compress '*.tar.gz' and '*tar.bz2' but now none of these work, and the bz2 option is gone altogether.Does anyone know what might have happened?I have openSUSE 11.3 & KDE 4.6, but this happened before I upgraded to KDE4.6 just a few days ago, so it's not KDE4.6 related, maybe 4.5? maybe Dolphin?I also tried to install the extract/compress plugin but it says "Could not find program 'compress_TARBZ2.sh'" which all are in my /bin folder. I also checked I have all the extract/compress file installed: zip, tar, gzip, bzip and so on.I also tried 'Compress to...' which open Ark, then I selected either 'gz' or 'bz' and still nothing happened.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI would like to know if there is a solution to this problem. The multimedia hotkeys (play/pause, stop, volume up/down, volume mute, ecc) stop working when i open any menu (for example mintmenu, that i use, or any menu of firefox like bookmarks) or if i start an application, such as openarena. The major problem is for volumes keys, that stop working in these cases.
Any ideas? I tried to change keyboard model, disable hotkeys mapped in prefereces->keyboard shortcut (with this they just stop working), but nothing changed.
In the lower right corner was always the icon to let me know that the network is working, the 2 monitors?. Also in that corner was the program Parcellite that I used all the time. I accidentally deleted them both and now cannot get them back. I can't even start Parcellite from the menu and when i try to start it from the terminal this is what I get:
[Code]...
I've tried removing parcellite by uninstalling it, then reinstalling it and i still get the same thing. I even uninstalled it, then rebooted, then installed it again and still nothing. What the heck did i do??? any clues?
I uninstalled Empathy and installed Pidgin, because I just couldn't take Empathy's lack of features any more. The "Me" menu doesn't work properly with Pidgin, though. Every time I change my status via the Me menu, it knocks me off-line on three of my four accounts. how to disable (or even remove) the "Me" menu? It's only functionality is to control messaging and social networking services, right?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI managed to install Mint 9 on a Windows 7 system. It works except for one thing: at the Menu options, Windows 7 is listed at the bottom, Mint 9 at the top. I can log into Mint 9 but all keys are frozen. When I boot with Super Grub and other discs, I get the same result. All keys are frozen. Is there a way to edit my boot menu so that I can get dual boot.I know I can use Win. 7 disc, repair, then re-install Windows' mbr, but that would give me back my Win. 7 but no Mint 9. (By the way, I cannot install Ubuntu 10.4 or any other Linux; ;so far it works only with Mint 9)

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Fedora 11 onto my computer on top of Linux Mint. Originally I was using Mint's bootloader, but I'm ditching Mint soon for another OS so I'm migrating to Fedora's bootloader to make the transition easier. For a while I couldn't get Mint to appear on Fedora's Grub menu, but during that time I could still access the internet on Fedora. However, once I successfully added Mint to Fedora's grub menu, the wireless suddenly stopped working on Fedora (though it still works on Mint.) I can connect to the network on Fedora but it gives me the awesome "host does not exist" message when I try to ping anything. Any insight as to why this might have happened after I managed to successfully boot Mint from the Fedora boot menu?
View 5 Replies View RelatedNetbeans menu doesn't go on global menu. It stays in application. Well, OK, I can live with thatAfter dragging anyting inside Netbeans (windows, menus, ETC), Unity Launcher stops dodging windows and autohiding. It just sits on the screen. It starts to behave normally only after I restart Netbeans. Now- that's pretty annoying.EDIT: Even worse: If I exit Netbeans during debugging session, I must exit Firefox as well before launcher starts behaving normally again. Now, that's entirely unacceptable. Good enough reason to remain on "Ubuntu Classic" (what's left of Gnome that is), and eventually switch do different distro or even... ungh... WAMP.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am very much new to Debian. To have a feel and check if my laptop (HP Elitebook 6930p) is supported I decided to use a live USB option. I know how to create a live USB disk using Ubuntu and using the same knowledge I created the USB disk and tried to boot using it. The system starts to boots off the USB drive and then is stuck at a point where it fails to identify my HDD. Here is what I did
a) downloaded the debian-live-508-i386-gnome-desktop.iso/debian-live-508-i386-gnome-desktop.img/debian-live-507-i386.iso (I tried with all 3)
b) created a live USB using unetbootin
c) tried to boot from live environment
My laptop's hard drive is encrypted using SafeBoot.
After all the 3 debian images failed to boot I tried with other Linux flavors such as Mint and Ubuntu. Interestingly Mint and Ubuntu boot. Is there some thing I need to take care of?
i wiped my entire hard drive that had xp as its only OS. I freshly installed a Windows 7 ultimate and everything went perfectly. I then decided to install 10.4. I split the partitions correctly (i had experience doing this already with my laptop, which has xp/10.4). Ubuntu 10.4 install went flawlessly, except for one thing. Now when i boot up the pc, it goes straight into 10.4. I have tried holding shift during the start up to force the boot menu, and it just shows the Ubuntu 10.4 OS as choices. Any clue what i could do to make Win7 appear in the boot menu?

Choose what applications to launch"I know that these are popups are normal. I currently dnot have any photos or videos in my iPod Touch(will try to add them in the future) so I used Rhythmbox to open the music present in my iPod touch. I'm able to find my iPod under "Devices" in Rhythmbox. But when I click it, Rhythmbox shows that there are no music present in my iPod Touch by showing "0 artist" and "0 Albums".
However I know for sure that there are definitely songs in my iPod since I'm able to browse and play songs directly from my iPod. Is there any way to resolve this? I have also tried opening it in banshee but with the same result.I tried to drag and drop songs present in my library of rhythmbox to my iPod and this does not do any thing. Previously in LM 8 or 9, when I do drag and drop I will be able to see my new songs in my iPod.
