Software :: Crash When Mplayer Tries To Use Fbdev In An Xterm?
Feb 23, 2010I am running Slackware 12.2, and if in an xterm I use mplayer to play a video using:Code:mplayer -vo fbdev2or something similar, the video starts "playing" in a very weird way and winds up locking up my computer. I typically can CTRL+ALT+Delete to make the computer restart, but I absolutely hate having to restart. Is there a way to get my computer to "refresh" and forget about the screwy use of the framebuffer

General :: Why Can I Watch It With Gnome-mplayer But Not With Mplayer?
Mar 3, 2011This should be a very elementary question. I have a URL like http://SERVERNAME/file.wmv. When I enter it in "Open Location" in gnome-mpLayer it connects to the server and plays the stream. But when I run
mplayer "URL"
in the terminal I get a crazy endless loop of

I think my usage of mplayer in the terminal is correct, since I can watch other URL's.It's only this specific one that doesn't work (I am not authorized to write the URL because they want it to be private.So my question is: Does anyone know why I get this loop? Or is it possible to see how mplayer is called by gnome-mplayer and what output messages it generates?I use gnome-mplayer 0.9.9.2 and mplayer 1.0rc4-4.4.5 on Ubuntu 10.10.
Fedora :: Grsync/rsync Crash / Grsync Run For Some Time And Once It Nears Completion It Will Crash?
Jun 14, 2011I'm running Fedora 15 with current updates and kernel. I do not have anything special or non-standard about my configuration or setup. I use grsync to sync my home folder files to a remote rsync server on my network. I've checked my hard drives and my memory and everything else I can think. Here is the problem:
grsync will run for some time and once it nears completion it will crash. This, however, is no standard crash. It literally shuts my computer "OFF". I have shared the remote rsync folder through CIFS as well and I can copy those exact same files through nautilus with drag and drop without issue. I have had a few occasions where the rsync process will complete without issue, but this is a rare occasion. Since it powers my computer completely off I do not enjoy the luxury of having any log files or messages to attempt to diagnose from.

Jan 9, 2009ive had ubuntu 8.1 for awile now on my laptop and windows on desktop. ive downloaded lives media maker or movie maker what ever u widh to call it. after opening lives it says i need to download mplayer. i got to the mplayer homepage thur the downloads given here, and dont know what to do. never messed with binary or codes and dont want to realy mess things up. so looking for some advice here. how do i get mplayer on ubuntu?

My question is simple: How do I use this command: mplayer -ao pcm *.m4a -ao pcm:file="*.mp3" to convert whole directories and place the converted tracks into another directory. The way it's listed above it will convert all songs with a .mp4 extension into a single file with a .mp3 extension. Which of course, is not what I want, but I know of no other way to use this command.

May 8, 2010Trying to play a *.mp4 video using mplayer and the picture is jumpy and the sound completely screwed. It say it is guessing the bitrate thus:

In fact the bitrate should be 139 or possibly 132. So assume that is what is wrong. Have assiduously coated myself with nourishing smegma and the like but am unable to work out how to set the bitrate in this case.

Although mplayer is not a part of the Slack distros, I think the issue is more in connection with the system setup and thefore I place this post in this forum. What is it with mplay- er? I've installed and reinstalled slackware 12.0 many times. And each time I have built mplayer from the sources and it has run fine. In the one before the last slack 12 installation, with subsequent building and installation of MPlayer, some- thing went wrong. And the same can be said of the present installation. Every source mplayer reproduces, it does it fine, with the exception of CD-ROM. No matter the CD-ROM I insert (I have them of the highest quality, bought out of the shelf) or the CD-ROM unit I use. The result is always the same: the sound is faulty, as if the machine had not enough speed. And I repeat. MPlayer played CD-ROMs fine in the past and under the same conditions. Or almost the same conditions, because something must obviously have changed.
Some additional data:
(a) Window$MediaPlayer plays them fine on the same machine.
(b) I invoke it from the physical console.
(c) KsCD under xfce plays them fine.
(d) I am able to load an o.s. from both CD-ROM units on the machine. All the more so, should audio be "correcty" read off the CD.
(e) Now I remember the last time I compiled mplayer with GUI support.
Slackware :: Mplayer Not Initializing In 12.2?
Feb 9, 2010I have downloaded mplayer svn slackbuild script for slackware 12.2 and converted into tgz package and installed it on my slackware 12.2 system. I was using it with slackware 12.2 early and it worked fine. i formated my hard disk to give slackware 13 a try. and later when i installed slackware 12.2 and installed mplayer it is not opening i mean not initializing when i click mplayer icon from the multemedia menu or if i click a videofile and tell it to open with mplayer both ways its not working i tried reinstalling mplayer
but still not working.

Feb 20, 2010I am having difficulty getting my DeVeDe created iso that I burned to a DVD to play on my Debian box. I have w32codec and libdvdcss2 installed on my Debian Lenny system. I have the Debian-Multimedia repository added to my sources.list file. I've been Googling for an answer since 8:30 a.m. EST and everything says I should be able to install the above codecs and play DVD video.
When I insert the DVD, Mplayer opens up, acts like it starts playing with a (streaming) tag and then clocks to 1 second and goes to "Paused"
I've even tried installing VLC to see if that mattered and it did not.
Debian :: Can't Seem To Install Codecs For Mplayer
Mar 9, 2011I have an mkv file that I'm trying to player with mplayer, but no video is showing up. Mplayer was installed using apt-get install mplayer since ./configure when I try to build mplayer gives me a bunch of garbage:

But, after installing mplayer using apt-get, I can't get any video for the file I'm trying to play. I've tried copying the files from "all-20110131.tar.bz2" to /usr/local/lib/codecs but I still don't even get a box for video. Everything works fine using the built in movie player--even the subtitles are shown correctly.

Oct 13, 2009I guess I need to start off by saying that I am new to Fedora. Most of my media files come from iTune. therefore, I have download mplayer, xmm and Audacious to play the ACC, Mp4 and Mpv files. None of the media players play ACC or mp4 files. I downloaded the ACC plugins for mplayer, XMM and Audacious but it still does not work. Also Mplayer will not show show a video file, but the sound works. When I start mplayer the screen freezes and glitches. I have screen shots showing the glitch issue.

If I use "pe -ef|grep mplayer ........" ,it seems to complex. Is there any easier way to get the name and store it in a parameter like $movie_name ? And also, I want to know if I can know whether the mplayer is running well. For example, if I use "mplayer wrong.txt". You can still get "ps -ef|grep mplayer....",but you just know that mplayer will get error to play .txt file.

Aug 18, 2010I'm running Fedora 13 32-bit on a Samsung NC20 netbook (specifications here: [URL]. Everything works fine, with the exception of media playback via VLC and mplayer. The biggest problem is that the entire OS frequently locks up when exiting full-screen playback in either application, and occasionally locks-up when starting playback via mplayer. Video is also always on top of other windows, regardless of whether the application is configured to be always on top.
The lock-ups are severe enough to warrant powering off the machine, as CTRL+ALT+Fx does nothing. I suspect this is related to the machine's VIA CPU/graphics chipset - I've had problems with them before in other Linux distros, but playback was fine under F12 on the same machine. Because the video windows are always on top, I suspect there's a general issue affecting media playback - hopefully configuration related!

Jan 9, 2011I have trouble with my Fedora 14 on laptop, that I never had on previous Fedora versions (10-13).The SELinux not allow mplayer to play flv files and I cannot convert any files from flv to mp3.I have all codecs installed.Also Totem not works propely.I can shutdown SELinux (but dont want to) but there still remain (already installed) codec, which cant be found (decoder h.264).So its not matter if I shutdown SELinux because I still cant play flv

Fedora :: Latest MPLAYER Rpm Builds?
Mar 18, 2011It seems like all mplayer rpm builds have stopped being updated. The latest in rpmfusion is about a year old. I've tried to find other places for newer rpm builds but there is nothing out there. I need a new mplayer, because the current one does not support subtitles in bluray movies, the SVN builds have had this feature for many months.
Anyone knows what is going on? Is there a particular reason why nobody updates rpm builds for mplayer for such a long time?
