I went to install VLC and mplayer in 64-bit openSUSE 11.3 and neither of them were in the repositories. I have both the oss and non-oss repositories enabled but still can't find them. I am running KDE 4.4.4. Are these nonexistant for this version or am I just missing something?

Now I'm noticing that applications are missing from (pacman) repo, but when I browse the repo with firefox, the rpms are there, they're just not being found by a yast search... Both mplayer and kdelnive are not found by yast. There are probably others...

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo, weird thing happens since I upgraded to 9.10. I have no idea what causes it nor can I find a fix. Could be an Mplayer thing, but the symptoms are odd.
I frequently play music or video on shuffle. The typical command is: mplayer * -shuffle
Since the dist-upgrade, this gives:
Playing foo.avi.
VobSub: mpeg_run error
No matching VOBSUB language found!
Seek failed
For every file except the first in the list, so only when it moves to the second file. If I hit enter (for moving to the next file on the list) before the first is finished, everything proceeds normally. If I let it go to the second file on its own, the above message shows for each remaining file and Mplayer quits.
Now the weird part (that I'm hoping is diagnostic): after this has happened, my command line interface doesn't seem to know in which directory it is. The command prompt shows the expected (unchanged) directory and typing 'pwd' gives the same, but tab autocompletion seems to think it's one dir up the tree, and sometimes suggests completions that don't seem to exist anywhere (eg. when I type mpla[tab] it suggests mpla/, which doesn't exist). Typing 'cd .' fixes that weird behavior. I've reinstalled mplayer to no avail.

This should be a very elementary question. I have a URL like http://SERVERNAME/file.wmv. When I enter it in "Open Location" in gnome-mpLayer it connects to the server and plays the stream. But when I run

I think my usage of mplayer in the terminal is correct, since I can watch other URL's.It's only this specific one that doesn't work (I am not authorized to write the URL because they want it to be private.So my question is: Does anyone know why I get this loop? I have attempted to install Mplayer on my recently upgraded opensuse. It states nothing provides libjpeg.so.62(LIBJPEG_6.2)(64Bit) needed by Mplayer-1.0rc4_r33030-1.pm.1.3.x86_64 With the options of Do not install Mplayer-1.0rc4_r33030-1.pm.1.3.x86_64 OR Break MPlayer by ignoring some of its dependencies. I do not want either of these options, rather I want to just have the option to install it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've noticed the Packman mplayer's ffvorbis doesn't seem to be working on 11.2 (x86)-any vorbis seems to be decoded as very quiet noise that roughly matches the sound that ought to be made. Audio output (-ao) doesn't make any difference, and I've the same problem on three different machines. Xine, vlc, ffplay, etc. all work, as does -afm tremor (the reference decoder) with mplayer. The verbose output from mplayer seems to be the same between these systems and an older 11.0 system with a not-very-recently-upgraded version of mplayer. Unfortunately, packman does not keep old versions of packages, and compiling mplayer is somewhat of a chore, so it is not immediately easy to test an old version of MPlayer on 11.2 for me.
I'm using the samples from Vorbis.com: Music to test with, so I assume there is nothing peculiar about the files.
Is anyone successfully using current (1.0rc2_r29796) Packman MPlayer to play either vorbis .oggs or video with vorbis audio on 11.2? If so, was it a fresh install or an upgrade system? Architecture? Etc.-I've run out of machines to easily test on, and it doesn't work on any of them.
I realize that this is better-addressed to the Packman mailing list, but very few users seem to read it, and for whatever reason, the packagers never seem to have any problems with their own packages (even when they are clearly broken for many others); so I thought I would give it a try here first.

Not sure when this first happened but I suspect it was just a couple of days ago. I had installed DeVeDe to burn some video to disc and it all worked fine but now when I try to run DeVeDe it says it can't find mplayer and you have to quit. I've tracked this back to mplayer and I'm getting this error from mplayer:
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvdpau.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory libvdpau is installed so I don't know why it can't find the library.
I see there are issues with vdpau and nvidia but this shouldn't be affecting me should it??
I have the restricted format software installed via one-click-install. I found that in 11.4 mplayer would fail to start playing a MP3 clip, but succeed on the second and subsequent tries, but only within a short time afterwards. A quick examination showed that this was because mplayer was firing off an instance of pulseaudio, which stayed around for a while, then exited. This was not acceptable for a clip played from a cron job so I found the way to bypass pulseaudio for mplayer was by putting this line in ~/.mplayer/config:

Worked fine afterwards. I don't know if this affects the ability to output audio from other apps while the sound device is in use, but I don't have that situation, so this workaround suits me.
I couldn't get .wmv "windows media player" files to run under linux originally, when firefox defaulted to opening them with mplayer. I changed the default to vlc player. Now they can play perfectly, but the color is all blue. Different shades of blue the other colors don't appear.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been having trouble lately with firefox freezing. For awhile I couldn't figure out what was causing it as it seemed random. But I think I narrowed down the problem to the mplayer plugin. Whenever I go to a site that has streaming video, the mplayer plugin would start reading the stream, but then display "stopped". Now sometimes when it does this firefox would freeze, but sometimes it wouldn't freeze till I start mousing over my bookmark tabs, then it would freeze my entire desktop. I can move my mouse but not much else. I can do a ctrl-alt-backspace to reload the xserver. Has anyone else noticed this? Also, can some help me troubleshoot this. I've removed and then re-installed firefox and the myplayer plugin; deleted my .mozilla directory; changed profiles. Is there anything else I can do?

On VLC 1.1.8/1.2.0 I've tried X11 video out, XVideo video out and GLX video out. I've also tried enabling hardware decoding under Advanced > Inputs/Codecs > FFmpeg to no avail.
On MPlayer 0.6.9, I set my cores to 4, and and tried XVideo output and VDPAU output.
