I tried again (with easylife this time) and I got the same result - once the kmod was finished I just got a cursor - so two tries with two different methods, same result. So, is there a generic type driver that will at least take advantage of some of the features of my geforce 6800?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running Debian Lenny with GNOME on a ThinkPad T43. Some OpenGL apps like the game Trigger run great, while others like Stellarium crash my system beyond recovery. I get a black screen, I can see the mouse cursor and move it at a very slow speed, but nothing else. I can't switch to a different terminal or restart X with ctrl-alt-bksp.
I assume that the problematic apps do not like the laptop's integrated graphics chip? Is there a way to know ahead of time what apps might be troublesome, before actually running them? I hate hard resets.
If you want to use XBMC 9.11 (Camelot) and MPlayer, I suggest to use RPM Fusion. VDPAU support is now mainline...My repository provides pre-beta XBMC Dharma packages (xbmc-dharma) and recent mplayer packages with bluray support (through libbluray and libaacs). These packages depend on RPM Fusion.
xbmc-dharma is also compiled with vdpau and vaapi support. vaapi is supposed to be compatible with Nvidia (through vdpau, install vdpau-video), ATI (through xvba, install xvba-video) and Intel (directly). For me (NVidia), it doesn't work, xbmc instantly crash. Anyway, you can try. Maybe it's useful for someone. You can maybe find informations here: [URL] For NVidia and ATI, it can only work with the closed source driver. For Intel. libva, vdpau-video source packages were copied from [URL](I forgot) and recompiled by me.
One last thing, RTMP [URL] support was removed from XBMC after 9.11. If you want to watch videos over this protocol (usually flash), you have to install librtmp (provided in my repo). Repository URL:[URL] If you want to install it in yum, copy [URL]

I just upgraded from FC8 (32-bit) to FC11 (64-bit). In doing so, I backed up my entire World of Warcraft folder so I could try to avoid having to download and install it all over again. However, I've now reinstalled wine (64-bit now), and the nvidia drivers from the rpmfusion repos (also 64-bit), and when I try to start WoW, it says it cannot load OpenGL. I'm wondering if anyone knows what's up, and if there's a solution that doesn't involve reinstalling WoW.

I finally got the basic 2D working again on my laptop using the updates-testing stuff. But using 3D (glxgears for example) still make my machine to crash. Also, I get weird kernel panics when trying to configure the nvidia:

I am running Slackware 12.2, and if in an xterm I use mplayer to play a video using:Code:mplayer -vo fbdev2or something similar, the video starts "playing" in a very weird way and winds up locking up my computer. I typically can CTRL+ALT+Delete to make the computer restart, but I absolutely hate having to restart. Is there a way to get my computer to "refresh" and forget about the screwy use of the framebuffer

View 2 Replies View RelatedI noticed that one DVD I encoded to ogg (vorbis) resulted in files with varying volume levels (some files have sound much softer than others... and the original DVD is not like that). I wonder if it's mplayer or oggenc's fault. I do it like this (suppose):

I'm doing it by memory so I could have a mistkate or two in the sequence of commands but the idea is very simple
- Output the sound to a wav file using mplayer
- Encode it with oggenc
- Delete the wav file.
Why is the result having varying volume levels?
When I try to play a dvd and give mplayer no options, it defaults to "X11" for the video output, which maxes out the cpu. To get around this, firstly I tried to play the dvd using "cvidix" in the console.
I used the following command:
mplayer -ao alsa -vo cvidix -fs -framedrop -stop-xscreensaver -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://1
This played the dvd, but the console text was still visible over the top of the movie; i.e. mplayer was playing in the layer beneath the console text
Then I tried using xvidix in X:
mplayer -ao alsa -vo xvidix -fs -framedrop -stop-xscreensaver -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://1
This gives a green line about 5mm thick down the right side of the screen, but other than that it is ok.
Have anyone tried enabling libvdpau, libva (vaapi) and MPlayer with the proprietary Nvidia driver? Does it actually work on slackware stable/current? (Lower cpu utilization during HD decoding) Is this the correct installation workflow?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an e-machines computer model EL1200-05w, I believe my Graphics card is a 6150SE, what happens is that often about 3 or 4 times a day my computer displays horizontal stripes and the computer freezes completely and have to shut down the computer manually, this does not happen on Windows and have tried Fedora and Kubuntu with no avail, I do not know if it's a Kernel Issue or the graphics card. I have searched extensively and have found nothing. I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Linx by the way.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt's been mentioned several times in this forum already that downgrading to NVIDIA driver version 256.53 can solve random-seeming plasma crashes (the error dialog box usually mentions a "floating point error").So, I upgraded openSUSE 11.3 to KDE 4.5.5 today and couldn't add a clock - any clock - to my desktop or panel without a plasma crash. I had been using the latest NVIDIA kernel modules (v260.19) from the openSUSE NVIDIA repo. I uninstalled them, installed the gcc, make, and kernel-devel packages, and manually installed the latest NVIDIA driver (270.18). No joy; same crash. So I installed version 256.53. And...it solved the problem.
So, to underscore the point, if you have a recent NVIDIA card and you're having random plasma widget crashes, try downgrading your NVIDIA driver.
This was my first experience with Ubuntu, I was told to switch the hard drives on my computer and put the Windows drive in a safe place for the install. The first time I did the install on the hard drive (which was the clean second hard drive that came with my computer), I either didn't realize I believe I didn't realize I had to click a button and thought the install had gotten stuck, and therefore cut off the install midway through. The second time around the install went without a hitch, and I was able to boot to desktop once. There, I was notified that I needed/should install NVIDIA drivers, I believe version 173 was listed as the next most recent drives (the other was "current"), I have an NVIDIA GeForce 7350LE graphics card, and after installing the drivers, I went to the restart menu as directed and clicked restart, not shut down but restart, and there were several listed errors on the text/DOS screen, shutdown errors I believe (the errors were 5 digits and were something like 56759 or something like that, I can't be certain if I'm remembering right, though, but there were two errors going over again). I then proceeded to turn off the computer manually, and upon it coming on again, instead of the normal Ubuntu flash screen before login, a more choppy Ubuntu 10.10 screen popped up and it led me to the DOS mode, where I was able to login, but it did me no good because I don't know command logic for Ubuntu. The best I did (its the best I ever do when these things happen) is get menus to pop up that are basically useless. I turned the computer off and on again three times, and tried booting directly from disk, but that failed.
I'm actually using the same computer I just reinserted the Windows drive back in after the frustrating experience. Windows has been giving me problems itself, and I really wanted to switch to Ubuntu but I need to know that this is a fluke and not the norm. I can live with this sort of thing being so uncommon I must have did something that was very strange and out of the ordinary to my computer. But if its commonplace, I want to know that too, because that's just something I can't live with.
I have my pc hooked up to my tv using hdmi. Problem is my tv only accepts YCbCr. Is there any way to have the nvidia card NOT output RGB and output at YCbcR? Currently the blacks and whites are crushed and out of whack. The pc is a revo atom 230, if that matters.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn an Asrock ION 330HT-BD box Im running Ubuntu 9.10 (2.6.31-17-generic) with the nVidia driver 185.18.36. The Asrock box uses the nVidia ION chip and the nVidia driver appears to be working without any problems.
My problem is, that I what to use the box as a MythTV frontend with an (old) SD Plasma screen as display, which have a native resolution of 852 x 480 and I cant get the box to output a 852 x 480 signal. The Plasma is connected with a HDMI -> DVI cable. No matter what settings I have tried in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, the box keeps outputting a 1024 x 768 (or higher) signal
Questions:
1) Is the nVidia ION chip capable of outputting a 852 x 480 signal?
2) If Yes to above, how do I configure my xorg.conf file?
I'm having a problem with getting the VGA out to work on my laptop. I have a Sony Vaio F series running Fedora 13 64bit with an Nvidia 330M on driver 254.44. Quite simply, the VGA out is not detected although the HDMI out is. how to correct this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Fedora 15 with current updates and kernel. I do not have anything special or non-standard about my configuration or setup. I use grsync to sync my home folder files to a remote rsync server on my network. I've checked my hard drives and my memory and everything else I can think. Here is the problem:
grsync will run for some time and once it nears completion it will crash. This, however, is no standard crash. It literally shuts my computer "OFF". I have shared the remote rsync folder through CIFS as well and I can copy those exact same files through nautilus with drag and drop without issue. I have had a few occasions where the rsync process will complete without issue, but this is a rare occasion. Since it powers my computer completely off I do not enjoy the luxury of having any log files or messages to attempt to diagnose from.
I'm trying to put the geant4 program on my computer and I need to install openGL first. I need the glut.h file and gl.h file in order to do this but I can't seem to find them anywhere online. I am using Fedora 14.

I'm noticing that the performance for FreeNX Server under Fedora Core 14 is really bad. The screen refreshing is painfully slow. I'm thinking maybe the issue is related to the use of opengl in the X driver? how I can disable opengl entirely, so that the X server is only using 2d rendering?

I don't get an option for HDMI. Here is the interesting part. The sounds work sometimes but not all the times. Most of the time the sound works on the OS default sounds but wont work for movies, streaming and music. I am running pulseaudio. I am new to setting this audio up. The headphones work fine.
I'm trying to get a program to compile with OpenGL support and it's saying that the headers are missing. But I think (or thought!) that I already had Open GL up and running. My suspicion is that I need to install the appropriate -devel files...but I just can't seem to find them. Furthermore, I don't want to tweak my system and install proprietary Nvidia drivers if things are already working just fine.

At the moment I have it playing through Analog Stereo Output. (See attached image)
The sound is mostly flawless and I haven't been having troubles with it.
But, because I play audio through my logitech speakers (2 speakers, 1 subwoofer) I should be able to get digital stereo sound shouldn't I?
From the drop down box of the attached image there are two options for Digital Stereo;
Digital Stereo Duplex IEC958
Digital Stereo IEC958 Output + Analog Stereo Input
None of them work for me. Even if I do a restart, I get no sound from Rhythmbox or Firefox.
I use the pulseaudio sound server and I have the PulseAudio device chooser installed. When I had the Digital Stereo Duplex IEC958 selected I used the Volume Meter playback to see if there was any sound coming through. Both left and right showed activity but nothing came through the speakers.
