Software :: Grab Cpu Grabber - Non-interactive Cpu And Process Monitor
I have a few AWS instances (linux micro, fedora-like) that occasionally (4x every 24hours) trip a CloudWatch monitor for CPU utilization. alarm => 85% at 5 minute slices.
The problem with this is that we're unsure WHAT is causing it. I have an idea to poll cpu usage every 5 mins and if there's a spike (eg, => 85%) then dump some process table stuff exposing the offenders.

Programming :: How To Turn Non-interactive Shell Into Interactive Shell?
I have a situation where I am in a non-interactive shell. I have tried from within my non-interative shell to spawn an interactive shell but my output still does not goto me. Isn't there a way I can somehow go into /proc or somwhere and make the output my /dev/tty1? Or some way else to remedy this? The situation arises because I drop from my restricted shell environment (a sort of CLI interface), into the actual Linux shell. I cannot change the code of the CLI environment I am just faced with being in the linux shell environment and its non-interactive. Its very annoying to have to put > /dev/tty1 after every command I type. Not to mention it seems damn near impossible to get pagers like more and less to work properly when your in a non-interactive shell.

Software :: Podcast Grabber And Meta Tags ?
I have looked at several Podcast retrieving applications. However, none I have found so far do anything good with the Podcast information. Almost every podcast contains tags that could be populated into metadata tags, it would seem, fairly easily. Having a podcast grabber that did so would certainly simplify using them on my iPod.

Ubuntu :: Make Gnome Panel Grabber Transparent?
My gnome panel currently looks like this: The panel is not expanded and the autohide buttons are not checked. As you can see I've set the background to transparent and removed the shadow via ccsm. The only thing that doesn't look nice are the "grabbers" to move the panel arround. Can they be modified to be transparent too? Maybe editing the theme? I cannot set the panel to expand because I use a dock which would be partly covered by the panel.

CentOS 5 :: Monitor Disk Usage By Process (iotop)?
I'm looking for a an easy way to determine which process on the system is using all of my disk resources. On Debian I just use iotop, but that doesn't seem to be available for CentOS. I found iostat, but that doesn't seem to let me determine the particular process that's using the disk.

Debian Hardware :: Imagination PXC200 Frame Grabber On Lenny
Recently I have working on an older robot that I got which happens to have an onboard computer (Versalogic VSBC-8) on which I was able to install Lenny on. This system also has a Imagenation PCX200 frame grabber installed on it as well. The problem I am having is that no matter which software I use in Lenny, webcam, etc, etc I either get an error that the device is in use or I get a blank screen, The camera that is hooked up to it works fine as I had tested it on another pc. I also verified that the permissions were set correctly for the device in /dev I have been googling for any kind of information on how to get this working with Lenny without much luck, before I had installed Lenny it had an old version of Redhat 8 installed on it, unfortunately the hard drive died and it was replaced, hence lenny.

Fedora :: Determine Which Process Belongs To Which Window In System Monitor?
I have Fedora Linux 13 64bit system. I use System Monitor to check which process is taking how much memory and cpu. Normally I have dozens of Chrome and Firefox windows open. The Processes tab shows which process is taking how much cpu/ram resources but I unfortunately there is no option like right click and make the window active that matches the PID (the one process that I have currently highlighted). Usually there is a chrome process taking up 30 or 40 percent of CPU while dozens other chrome processes taking much less cpu. I must determine which chrome window ( or any application which has multiple instances running) is taking that much CPU time. So can some one help me to solve this problem?

OpenSUSE :: Ksysguard (Monitor) Lacks Process Table Because ProcessTable.sgrd Is Empty
Ksysguard has always before shown a process table on one tab and the system load charts on a second tab. Loading Ksysguard produces an error message: "The file /home/*/.kde4/share/apps/ksysguard/Processtable.sgrd does not contain valid XML." That file contains nothing, as it's size in Dolphin is 0. Have updated KDE in Yast; removed Ksysguard 4 (which installed ver. 3) then re-installed ver 4. Still lack the process table. This is OpenSuse 11.4 on a Toshiba A665 laptop. In other respects the system works perfectly, well almost. I'm examining a large number of files recovered by scalpel from a disk image created by ddrescue. This problem appeared while working through the nnnnnnnn.doc files. Most of them open in LibreOffice, but some produce an error message ("Not a Word 95 document"), open as slides (which is OK), or seem to freeze LO (with a CPU core at 100% in ksysguard). Lacking the process table, I'm having trouble killing the LO process (ps doesn't deliver the process number as expected; still studying it).

Software :: Idea For Software 'Stream Grabber'
I would like to give an idea I had for software (maybe a script). Where would be the best place for this on this site or elsewhere on the Internet? The idea is some software that will grab and put into a list all the streams available on various Internet TV sites such as URL.... I think such software could be very helpful for various open source software like XBMC Element HTPC and others. There are thousands of channels available on that site alone.
