I'm trying to ssh to a client machine which as freeipa client setup Login works great but ssh via GSS.Is there a way to see what's being sent where? I already have the highest debug turned on the ssh side.
View 1 RepliesI am trying to build a file server with RAID 5 over a couple of 1TB HDDs, to serve about 10 client machines using Ubuntu Server. I already own a 22-port switch: HP ProCurve v1810G-24 Switch (J9450A), which I am assuming will do the job. And for the actual server I am thinking of buying: HP ProLiant DL120 1U. Will this hardware suffice, or am I missing something important to get the whole thing running?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running NFS and NIS servers in my FC8. Clients are also running FC8. Everything was working fine. I could login remotely to server as well as clients. Suddenly (few days ago) a problem started. I can not login remotely to client machines. I did not do anything. I can login to server remotely, but not the client. When I try to login, it accept password and nothing happens. Also, when I try to login from server to client same thing happens. We share the home directory of the server with client. Another question: there two type of nfs server nfs-user-server and nfs-kernel-server. I just use gui to set up the NFS. I don't know which one I am running. Is there any way to find out which nfs I am running?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWe administer a small lab of Ubuntu 11.04 machines. Users authenticate via NIS to the fileserver, which then uses NFS to mount their /home directory.
From time to time, seemingly at random, the machines will lock up. After about 15 minutes, they will go back to normal.
Switching the machine to the console with/ Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't help either - credentials get entered, but there's still a 15 minute wait before any commands can be entered. Some error messages show up at this point about processes that were running timing out. However, the root user can log in immediately (which makes us think that this is only affecting NIS accounts).
Logging in with the root account, we can ping our NIS server, and it responds normally. We can restart the networking and NIS daemons but neither of these help.
We checked the NIS error log in /var/yp/ypserv.log and it is empty.
We used to be running a different version of Ubuntu on the client machines (10.04 LTS), but not on the server.

The builds on these machine are different, so each workstation will have its own specific db generated through running AIDE initially. It is not good practice to just leave the db on the machine, since an "attacker" would be able to view this information. However, at the same time I do not want to pull back over 100 different aide db's to the ftp server and have an update pull each specifically every time I need to run the check. The plan is to leave the db on the client machine, but encrypt it (using public/private keys). I need to be able to encrypt the file on the client machine. I will use a cron on the client to pull an update (from my ftp server) that runs AIDE. This update needs to be able to decrypt the file, use it running AIDE, then re-encrypt the file on the client.

I have several Windoz machines in a peer-to-peer network and now two SUSE machines, one 11.1 and another 11.2.I have a network printer accessible now to all the machines.My next step is to be able to share files between all the machines and several network drives. I know how to set this up between the Windoz machines, but the only way I can get the SUSE machines to see the network (and be seen) is to shut down their firewalls, and I don't think that's how you are supposed to do it?Can someone point me to what it is that I need to read, or is there a FAQ somewhere to help get me started?
I think that this has something to do with Samba and I installed Samba (client or server? I forget) on the 11.1 and 11.2 seems to have it already built-in, but I don't know how to set it up with the firewalls on the two Linux machines so that it is all seamless (as if anything can be seamless).

I want to setup some virtual machines that will use the same architecture and debian-version as my host-machine. I have started to setup VMs with a netinstall-image and now want to add more software using apt-get. As most of the software I will use is already installed on my host-machine I wonder if there is any way to configure apt in such a way that it will not download packages from the internet, but will use the packages from my host-machine to save network-traffic. Is there a good may to populate VMs using the debs from the host-machine.

I have installed BIND 9.7.3 using yum in Fedora (dns server) and created all necessary .conf and zone fil es. I am successfully able to resolve domain names on this host machine (dns server). for example dig @dns.domain.lan client1.domain.lan correctly resolves domain name.

we are having new printers. At the moment we over 1000 machines on multiple sites but no print server they are manually added on the machine ( I know don't ask).
Anyway there is no way they would let use a windows server so the only option I have is to use linux however I little unsure if it is capable of doing the job I need it to do. Basically I want to add the printers on the linux server either using samba or ipp (I would assume samba would be best).
The reason i want to do this is when we have to do around the machines I just want to go around the machines and just the map the printer and it brings down the driver and config etc as we want them to duplex. The issue is I been trying to gain information on the internet and getting conflicting information apparently I can add the windows driver onto the server so when I map the printer it brings it down. However some guides state you still have through the whole process of adding the printer and then choosing the driver etc. Which kinda of makes it pointless to do the printer server since I would already have to do this anyway if we don't have one.
I just want to go be able to go around the machines and for example click star run and do something like \192.168.1.1printer01 and then it done kind of thing.
I am in verse to test "Multicast Packet filtering".I want to setup Virtual Machines to be servers with bind option set to a multicast group address of 225.0.62.87.Then I want to configure the client VM, connecting to the multicast group address and setting the TTL as needed.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am *finally* getting around to rebuilding my file-sharing computer. I'll be sharing files with both Linux and Windoze machines. It's a home network, so there's nothing fancy needed. I know I have to tweak my smb.conf file until I'm satisfied with the features and security. I'm using SWAT and I'm starting with a bare-bones conf file. It's not secure but I can see the server and selected files/directories from my other Linux box.
My really dumb question is, do I have to reboot both the server and the client machines every time I change the SAMBA configuration? I thought I just had to stop and restart the SAMBA service in the SWAT software - but then the server disappears from my client. It looks like I need to reboot both machines for the client to see the server.
I've been learning linux for a while now with half an eye on making a career out of it in future. One sizeable gap in my knowledge at the moment is networking. Is it feasible/desirable to set up a network of virtual machines to use as an environment to learn networking? My budget is non-existent so I was hoping to be able to get a basic understanding of the principles from installing a few desktops, a virtual gateway etc on VMware workstation on my laptop, and doing a lot of reading online.
Is this feasible, or will I just end up learning about virtual networks instead of real ones? Also how much power would be required, because my 3GB RAM lappy has just gone bang and all I have now is a (new) 1GB RAM lappy.
Any guide which describes setting up a vpn connection on Lenny using the command-line and NOT the gui?

Am I right to say, from the server machine, if I ping 192.168.126.130, I am calling the client machine? NFS server ip address is 192.168.126.129? and what about 192.168.255.129? and 192.168.255.128?
I've just installed a vpnagent on my Slackware 12.2. A script running the vpnagent daemon is /etc/rc.d/init.d/vpnagent_init. My network is started with rc.inet1. The queston is at which point during the startup to run "vpnagent_init" script. I thought to add a call to rc.locale.

This way, the users can manage their own accounts.
I don't know a lot about exactly what is running on our server, though I am almost positive it is debian based. I really only have access via ssh and ftp. I may be able to do more in the server room, but haven't tried. I thought about using net2ftp, but that doesn't seem to work with sftp, and also doesn't allow the creation of new users on the server.

Now I have bridged networking and do did provided:
Instance 1:
Machine IP: 192.168.1.100
Instance 2:
Machine IP: 192.168.1.101
BIND Software is installed on both the machine.
I want to make 192.168.1.100 as Server and 192.168.1.101 as Client.

I am setting up a freeipa2 server (both fedora 15), and I was able to get the ipa-client-install to work perfectly (as far as I know) by yum excluding libcurl and curl. If I run kinit brad, I can authenticate and that works aswell.
But when I want to login as me through gdm, I get "Could not update ICEauthority file /home/brad/.ICEauthority" granted the home folders do not exist as this would be my first ever login.
I am currently replacing a windows computer lab to fedora, and have got eveything else ready to go.
