Software :: Conky Configuration And Supports Mathematical Functions?
Oct 29, 2010
I have 4 NTFS partitions and I want the info regarding those partition to be displayed as a whole. I'we mounted all my NTFS in /mnt but it doesn't works to refer only to the folder where the partitions are mounted and you have to refer to them individually, so i cant display them as a whole. Also if anybody knows if conky supports mathematical functions or if he knows a tutorial about that it would be great 'cause if so I could make it caluclate the free and used space that should be displayed regarding those NTFS partitions of mine.

what kernel file holds the functions for the hardware configuration. I'm interested in finding the hardware timer of the linux and the DMA configuration file. I assume there is a single file that holds configuration data for the platform. This probably is executed before the kernel is started. As is see it this must be some hardware abstraction layer file because the actual kernel code is not platform dependent.

None of my daemon scripts work now, and the startup process displayed errors. Should I reinstall the OS and start from scratch, or is there a way to recover these files? Is there a way to rebuild the files I deleted?

It seems that Conky is broken, if I try to do anything with it(even after complete removal and reinstallation) I get this output.
Code:
Conky: missing text block in configuration; exiting
***** Imlib2 Developer Warning ***** :
This program is calling the Imlib call:
imlib_context_free();
With the parameter:
context
Being NULL. Please fix your program.
I don't know what to do?

Said that all the config i find put all the info in one place of the screen, in this example on the right side:
url
or like conky colors where you can put in either side, or other complex examples that use folders with images..that at least i need one day to study all the variables it has...
What i want is something simple, in my black background i dont want images and effects, only white simple text.
My problem is: i want for instance my specs above, my log info in the middle, my music info bellow (above my clock) and in conky config i'm hitting my head in the wall....
For instance if i use my facebook script to appear in the midle how the hell can i put my music info bellow without ruined the facebook in the midle...do i need 2 conky configs?

Im trying to use the mathematical input with maxima in Texmacs (Lubuntu 10.10), but this part of the plugin seems to not work properly. Maxima works very good without that option, but if i "press it" only appears a question mark (?)

I've been wondering about this for a long time but never thought to ask: I do a lot of scientific work so there are many times it would be really handy to be able to type mathematical symbols or Greek letters which, for the most part, aren't part of the ASCII character set. Like "∞ ρ σ τ ω ∑ ... √ ∫ ≤ ≥ " and so on. Is there a keyboard layout (for Linux) that maps simple key combinations to these kinds of characters? (Assuming all the encoding and font issues are worked out properly) I know I could create one myself but it'd be a lot easier if someone's already done the work, or at least if there's a partial solution I could modify.

I was wondering how to calculate some problems related to network transfer speed. If someone can show me a function to calculate network transfer speed over time, I would appreciate it.I'm in the midst of transferring 1.3TB of data to a network storage system. By looking at the stats, 4.6GB file transferred out in 6 min and 30 seconds. How long would it take to transfer 1.3TB of data?

Does anyone have the name of a good program that will allow me to create text files with mathematical notations and symbols? I like to ptake notes at school on my laptop but I find it difficult to do so in my math classes. I just downloaded a program called Mirai Math. Haven't tried it yet but it looks a little to clunky. I'm looking for something simple.

Is there any IRC client that supports VI keys? The ''obvious'' script VimIRC is and has been broken for so long it's not even funny. Do you know any IRC clients on Linux, GUI or Curses, that provides some of that nice vi usability? Or could some of the existing clients be scripted to use? Irssi, XChat, even ERC would do?

Google suggests that the latter, Mac software running on Linux, isn't possible. However, it also returns results that haven't changed for some time, which is why I'd like to know if anything has changed since then. Namely, Safari. Despite only having used an actual Mac once, I like Safari, and so far have the Windows version working fine under Wine. However, one of the things stopping me using it more is add-ons. In Firefox, I use Xmarks. Xmarks supports Safari - on a Mac. To my knowledge, this is no Windows Safari version. So, if I can't run it on the Windows version for now, what I want to do is run the Mac one instead, and use it there, if possible. I suspect neither is actually possible, at least for now. But it's always nice to have confirmation.

How do you check if a computer's video card will support Kernel Mode Switching BEFORE OS installation?
In this example I have an Acer Aspire AST180-UA381B.
Manufacture website says my video card is: Integrated nVidia MCP61
[URL] ....
Nouveau code list says: NV4C (MCP61) GeForce 6150LE / nForce 400/405, GeForce 6150SE Quadro NVS 210s / nForce 430
[URL] ....
I want to know:
1. How to tell if my graphics card will support KMS before I install the OS?
2. If it does not support KMS which kernel options should be passed to get it to work properly with the nouveau driver?
3. Ultimately I am looking for a tool that should be included in the installation screen that will:
a. identify your hardware: list the hardware detected on the screen
b. highlight with color code any hardware listed that is not supported or poorly supported: in this case graphics drivers
c. perform a quick benchmark test of your hardware: In this case I want the benchmark to tell me what capabilities my graphics card has.
d. automatically recommend and set the best kernel parameters for a successful boot: if the graphics card needs nomodeset or modeset=0 or whatever I want it to do it for me.
Also I started a personal blog about this issue which I intend to compose into guide to assist others with this question. [URL] ....
My goal is to create a boot disc that will automate proper installation of graphics or other hardware for a system BEFORE installation. I would like to see this feature included in the Debian installation screen.

I've tried aMSN, emsense, Pidgin (webcam hasn't worked in that program for ages, heh), empathy (just audio works), skype, ekiga, and so on.

A very strange problem started for me today. I SSHed into a server and could not type the letter 'i'. It would work fine if I was not in an SSH session, but consistently and repeatedly broke when I started SSH. I rebooted my machine, and the problem now occurs any time I'm using Bash, whether SSHing or not. For the record, I'm doing all this in the standard gnome-terminal.
First: it is not a problem with my keyboard. As you can see, I am perfectly capable of typing the letter 'i' in a browser window. In fact, capital 'I' works fine in bash as well. If I start nano from Bash, I can type the letter 'i' all day long, but when I exit to the Bash prompt, again I am unable to.
What's even more bizarre, I cannot even paste the letter 'i' into bash, either via Ctrl+Shift+v or by middle mouse clicking. This makes it impossible for me to type commands like 'vim' or 'exit'. Bash scripts, however, appear to have no problem with this particular character. Now, I've commented everything out of my .bashrc file, but that didn't help. I got rid of my custom .xmodmaprc file. Still nothing. Keyboard layout is U.S. English. I removed all Keyboard Shortcuts that involve the letter 'i'. Rebooted half a dozen times, still no luck.
My workaround at present is to use zsh instead of bash. Everything works fine with it, but I'd really like to get this thing fixed.
