I am trying to install libpcap and tcpdump, but even if I have already installed Flex, as the terminal tells me to do. What else could I do?
Code:
configure: error: Your operating system's lex is insufficient to compile libpcap. Flex is a lex replacement that has many advantages, including being able to compile libpcap. For more information, see [URL].

For compiling ArpON on my server the cmake command says 'libpcap not found' when a newer version libpcap-1.0.0-5.20091201git117cb5.fc13.i686.rpm is already exiting which I am unable to erase as other rpms depend on it.

I am running slackware-current and I have tcpdump-4.1.1-i486-1.txz installed. If I remember right libpcap used to be part of tcpdump, but since recently i cannot find it in my system anymore! Tools like nmap give me the error message:
"error while loading shared libraries: libpcap.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I am running Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Trying to configure a ax25 packet software to connect to the internet by way of a port called tun0 that I've created within the software. I can connect within the LAN but not outside. If I execute tcpdump while the tun0 is up, I first receive the message, "WARNING: arptype 65534 not supported by libpcap - falling back to cooked socket."Question: Does this warning relate to my connectivity issue and if so, how can I 'fix' the problem?

we want to enhance the current libpcap version 1.1.x to provide timestamp in nanosecond resolution.
While searching related to same, we found that enhanced libpcap requires x64 architecture.
Is that so?
Do we need 64-bit architecture for using enhanced libpcap for nanosecond timestamping ?

I am trying to install libpcap version 1 on my centos 5.5 (which supply libpcap 0.9.4 as built in). I need libpcap>=1.0 to install snort 2.9. I tried to install by downloading source code from tcpdump.org but failed to update libpcap-0.9.4 by libpcap-1.0.0.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.1 and am trying to get packet capturing working for my Bluetooth dongle using hcidump. From what I've read, libpcap must be compiled to enable Bluetooth sniffing and given that hcidump isn't finding a single packet, I'm guessing the version Ubuntu has installed for me isn't compiled with bluetooth support. So I downloaded a newer version of libpcap and installed the bluez header files. Configured libpcap and it gave a "Yes" for bluetooth support. It is now installed and sitting in /usr/local/lib/. Now I'm trying to compile hcidump to use this lib rather than the system default but I can't figure out how...I've read that GCC can be passed the -lpcap flag to set the path but I haven't figured out how to do this.

I just installed openSUSE 11. The 64-bit laptop has a RealTek RTL8102E NIC, which SUSE misidentified during the install. I found the supposedly correct Linux driver on Realtek's website, but I'm getting a problem when trying to compile the driver and I can't find my problem or the solution in any current threads - so I must be doing something pretty stupid. I followed the directions.

So, I had Ubuntu and Mint on my second hard drive (first drive has 7), and I reinstalled Ubuntu over the entire thing (upgraded from 10.04). Ubuntu now has one drive to itself, while Windows has the other. When I did this, I booted into Grub Rescue. Restarted and switched hard drives, same thing. I loaded the LiveCD and followed this repair guide. I discovered I don't have a Boot.cfg (or .lst) or another file of the three required. I noticed my install did not have any /boot partition, so I reinstalled a few times, all with the same error. Finally, I go back to the LiveCD desktop and run the following: sudo grub-install --boot-directory=/media/[long string]/boot /dev/sda And this is the output: Code: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot stat: /dev/sda/ This is on Ubuntu 11.04 with GRUB2 (1.99).

well I am a novice in Linux OS, I have a wireless card, it's a Linksys WUSB600N but it doesn't work in Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop Edition, which it is the one I have, 64 bits machine, so I read this [URL] and I did all the steps, I downloaded 2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2.tar but in the last part, sudo make install I got this error
alain@alain:~/t/2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2$ sudo make install
make -C /home/alain/t/2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2/os/linux -f Makefile.6 install
mkdir: cannot create directory `/etc/Wireless': File exists
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/alain/t/2010_0915_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.2/os/linux'
rm -rf /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA
mkdir /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA
[Code],,,,
so i have no way to get connected to the internet, what is that error cannot stat `rt3572sta.ko': No such file or directory, I think thats why i can make the wireless card work.

So I have created a Bash script with the intent of the program to change the names of the files in a folder's subdirectory. The code recognises the individual subdirectories, then is able to enter into one and list the files individually, but when it tries to change their information it says;' cannot stat ' : ' No such file or directory 'As if it is looking in the directory that contains the Bash script, not its subdirectory. It is essentially saying, I see a file here called FILE but sorry, I can't change FILE because FILE doesn't exist. kweh?Is this something outside the capabilities of Bash? Am I asking too much of it? Can Bash only manipulate files that are in the same folder as the script?
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo enter directory

I have a while(1) loop, and the error is: glibtop: open (/proc/stat): Too many open files This error occurs after about a half hour to an hour of running. I've tried running this multiple times, both with using glib_close() at the end of the loop, using glib_init() and glib_close() at beginning/end, and just using glib_init(). The strange thing is these have no effect on the actual glib_get functions.

I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

I am trying to install a program and it spews out an error about the .obj/matrix.o file.
The output is quoted here:
Code:
The program I was trying to install is a robot simulator which performs lots of matrix manipulation and linear system solving. I followed every step in the installation guide, except for this one:
On Ubuntu, all you need to do is install the following packages from the package manager:
libblas-dev
liblapack-dev
As shown above, I am using RHEL 6, which has different libraries with Ubuntu. I tried "yum search" and installed these libraries instead: lapack.x86_64 : Numerical linear algebra package libraries blas.x86_64 : The Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms library.

The relevant details of my setup are:
Samsung R522 laptop
Realtek RTL8192E wireless network controller (PCI)
Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686 (automatically updated using software update)
My problem is that my wireless card has never worked - basically there aren't any widely available linux drivers, and there are many threads on getting the RTL8192E to work on many different forums, e.g. here, but none specifically for Fedora, so I think that this thread could potentially guide many more users. FYI, my hardwired network connection works perfectly.
Fantastically however, by emailing Realtek support, they'll send you their Linux driver, which most people have claimed works perfectly (although why they haven't just put it on their website is beyond me). SO, I've got a Linux driver for my wireless card. When Realtek emailed me to send me the driver, they said to just 'cd' into the driver directory, then do
su
make clean
make
make install
reboot
./wlan0up or ./wlan1up
OK, so I tried to do this and get the following error:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2
I don't know enough about linux to understand this error. I really don't want to have to recompile my kernel, and I hope there is some way to install this driver with not too much hassle. How to overcome this error, and install my wireless driver so I can get wireless network access on my Fedora 12 operating system. I've found Fedora 12 really easy to use so far, but this is proving quite hard!
This is the output of 'ls -lh' in the folder which seems to be causing the error, namely /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686/
