View 2 RepliesI'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

View 10 Replies View RelatedI support an application that runs on RHEL 5.X and uses multipath to access a SAN. A Bare Metal Restore backup is done using Storix which needs to write directly to a /dev/sd* device, or at least what you configure it to use.The problem is if the USB drive is plugged in when the system is booted it can be identified as /dev/sdb and the the SAN LUNs are /dev/sdc and up. If the configuration file is then set up to use /dev/sdb and then later the system is booted with the USB drive not plugged in the SAN LUNs use /dev/sdb and up, which is fine because multipathd handles that. But when the USB drive is plugged in and becomes say /dev/sdx and the Storix configuration file is not changed, the Storix backup will still use /dev/sdb and corrupt what is there on the SAN.
I assume a udev rule could be used to make the USB drive appear as the same name, maybe /dev/storixI am looking for some good pointers to how to do this with udev or what ever. The application will soon be running on RHEL 6.X also, so hopefully what ever solution someone points me to will still work on it as well

After 2 months away from Fedora i am using it again, and used yum update to update stuff, everything was running fine, downloaded stuff, but 2 of the 666 stuff to install got error, here is:
[code]...
I run a few dozen dedicated web servers all running CentOS 5.5. A long time ago when one server was apparently compromised, I was urgently advised to sign in to the server and run "yum update" at least once a week to ensure that everything which I had installed using "yum", would get updated with any recently available updates, including security fixes, and that one reason I might have been hacked before was because I hadn't been doing that.
So, I'm still not sure if that would have prevented the original break-in, or how much this has reduced my chances of being hacked, but I've been faithfully signing in to each server every week for the past few months and running "yum udpate". Most times, this results in a lot of patches being downloaded and applied, so it's clear the machines are not doing it automatically. I figure it's about time to learn how to make the machines do this on their own. Is there a standard way to make "yum update" run automatically, every day, or every week? Yes, I'm sure there are many ways to do it, but is there a single way used by the majority of webmasters of CentOS sites who have automatic updates set up? Googling a bit for "make yum updates automatic" turned up some threads like:
[code]...
in which people describe writing their own custom scripts to do yum update automatically. This seems odd. It seems like the kind of thing that there would be a standard way to turn on. Also, is there a reason that virtually every newly provisioned dedicated server does not have "yum update" set up to recur automatically? If it's true that people break into websites using exploits that have been found in older versions of webservers and other software, and that sometimes these breakins would have been prevented by the newest patches, wouldn't it reduce the number of websites being compromised if the OS had yum updates turned on automatically by default?

I switched from Ubuntu to Fedora and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding why I cannot update my system. Fedora seems to be a little bit more complicated than Ubuntu to update and to do other things... I'm still willing to try it because it has a good reputation and good reviews so I will go ahead and give it a shot but before I do that I need to update it. I have an HP pavilion notebook dv2000. Just installed Fedora 15 and my system is telling me that I have over 700 updates! when I click on install updates I get an error:

The relevant details of my setup are:
Samsung R522 laptop
Realtek RTL8192E wireless network controller (PCI)
Fedora 12, kernel 2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686 (automatically updated using software update)
My problem is that my wireless card has never worked - basically there aren't any widely available linux drivers, and there are many threads on getting the RTL8192E to work on many different forums, e.g. here, but none specifically for Fedora, so I think that this thread could potentially guide many more users. FYI, my hardwired network connection works perfectly.
Fantastically however, by emailing Realtek support, they'll send you their Linux driver, which most people have claimed works perfectly (although why they haven't just put it on their website is beyond me). SO, I've got a Linux driver for my wireless card. When Realtek emailed me to send me the driver, they said to just 'cd' into the driver directory, then do
su
make clean
make
make install
reboot
./wlan0up or ./wlan1up
OK, so I tried to do this and get the following error:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [all] Error 2
I don't know enough about linux to understand this error. I really don't want to have to recompile my kernel, and I hope there is some way to install this driver with not too much hassle. How to overcome this error, and install my wireless driver so I can get wireless network access on my Fedora 12 operating system. I've found Fedora 12 really easy to use so far, but this is proving quite hard!
This is the output of 'ls -lh' in the folder which seems to be causing the error, namely /lib/modules/2.6.32.9-70.fc12.i686/
