I have a web server that hosts multiple websites. Am looking for an application that can be run on my workstation and makes it possible to watch Apache logs live.
It should have a tabbed interface. When I launch the application, it has to connect to my server and should automatically open all access.log and error.log files and display all changes in real time (similar to tail -f command).
Does anything like this exist?
I'm tired of logging in many times in Konsole and executing tail -f commands to see parallel logs.
How is it done?Right now its just getting written in a local text file(not /var/../.., not using syslog at all).and every day a new file is being created
I'm trying to build a program called Obpager, but I'm getting an error saying I don't have xlib.h. From what I understand, that file is included in libx11-dev, which I have installed. Any idea?
Code:
dagoss@MAGIC-PORT:~/Downloads/obpager-1.8$ make Compiling src/main.cc In file included from src/main.cc:33:0:
What is a good Ftp server application (preferably with a GUI interface)? I would like something in which you may set a login password. Also, how would you login to an FTP server which is through a router, as the computer IP address will be assigned now by the router, right? Take Linksys router for example, don't they all assign IP addresses to network computers based on the router IP Address, 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.200, etc?Since post above, I have installed vsftpd. I cannot figure out, as stated above, how to find the IP address to log into from offsite.

Fresh installation of Fedora 14 x86-64 on Lenovo T510. I'm trying to setup graphical remote connection to this laptop via VNC. I installed vnc-server package and altered /etc/sysconfig/vncservers accordingly:
I found Remote Desktop which opens vino-preferences and ticked the check boxes there. I started vnc-server and then I tried to connect to it from the same local host using vncviewer. I got no errors and the window with correct resolution came up. The problem is - that window is black and empty. I tried looking into Fedora docs but I haven't found anything useful there. I tried google and I found about 487693746874363 solutions and different ways of installing and configuring VNC server. I tried a few - none helped.
I wonder if there is a decent and consistent documentation about how to make remote desktop working in Fedora without having a real pain in the ass trying out those gazillion tweaks and tricks from various forums and blogs? After all Fedora 14 comes with that Remove Desktop thing available out of the box. Is it a real working thing or just a marketing Should I uninstall all the preinstalled VNC stuff and follow one of those painful instructions found on the internet from A to Z praying for it to eventually start working after all the magic is done and hours or days are wasted?
I had an old SuSE installation (v9 or 10, I forget) on which I used to remotely login to a kde session using xdmcp. I blew this away and installed 11.3, and I just can't get it to work. I'm pretty sure I've enabled all the things I should have. there a bug?(Incidentally, I had the same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 (with Gnome), and eventually found I needed an updated version of gdm. With X tunneled through a PuTTy ssh session I can display individual X windows no probs. Also, a VNC session is rejected out of hand.)
This is my first post here. I hope someone can help because I'm quite frustrated by now. I'm trying to write a bash script which will start a graphical app on our Ubuntu compute servers via X. I'm using a loop like:
for machine in 1 2 3 4 5 6 do ssh -X computer-$machine "xeyes" &
Sometimes I would like to start XBMC on my media center using my laptop. I manage this system fully via SSH, but there is one thing that I don't know how to do, or know if it is even possible. I would like to start XBMC from my laptop so that I don't have to reboot the machine in order to do that (XBMC launches upon boot). Is it even possible to launch a GUI on a remote computer using SSH, and if so, how?
I dislike dependency ridden applications or applications that do something useful designed for a specific window manager. So I am starting a thread specifically for requests for applications in Gnome and KDE that aren't immediately available in XFCE, Fluxbox,Blackbox, IceWM, LXDE etc. For instance, I am personally creating a graphical sudo application for the lesser window managers. What other applications would you like to see? this is NOT a request for applications for Linux is general, ONLY ones already available in Linux.
on Suse linux 11.2 while trying to install sun webserver 7 I was unable to install it in graphical mode, is the any package that needs to be installed in order to do that

I need to delete all files inside remote directory using ssh P.S. The directory must not be deleted, so @Wes answer is not what I need. If it would be local dir, I would run "rm -rf dir/*"
I can use TeamViewer to get into this remote host. It has sshd running. I would like to ssh to it. But it gives the system's IP as 192.168.xx.yy. How do I ssh into it?

I have a box (boell) running Fedora 10 sitting behind a firewall at school. I am able to freely ssh to and from this box to other computers (minion) within that lan. Outside of this network I cannot directly ssh to boell - I must ssh first to minion, then I can ssh to boell. I've spoken with the sysadmin and he's verified that the firewall permits ssh freely - i haven't had any issues like this with other boxes of mine there, so this isn't any surprise.
I have verified that the hosts.deny file is blank, iptables permits ports 22 (and 80) and I didn't see anything obvious in the sshd_config. I tried a tcp dump on the external host and boell while attempting to ssh from the former to boell. The packets appear to be acknowledged by boell, but this fails to lead to a connection. I've tried this process with external hosts in different locations with the same result. I have made few modifications to the default installation for F10, so perhaps there is some default somewhere I have to change. In any case, below I have attached excerpts of germane files.
======== ssh from boell ======= [root@boell log]# ssh -vvv 71.189.5.67 OpenSSH_5.1p1, OpenSSL 0.9.8g 19 Oct 2007 debug1: Reading configuration data /etc/ssh/ssh_config
i have a udp server running at port 60178. when i connect to it from localhost there is no problem. when i use the client from a remote host i am not able to connect. I changed my server firewall settings[Fedora 11] and added "udp 60178" to trusted ports but still nothing happened. I ran wireshark and observed that packets are coming to the server machine but server returns a "Port Unreachable" ICMP message and doesnt give the packet to the application.
I want to start a shell scripts(which generate traffic to test my network) at remote linux hosts from single linux local host.. If i start script at remote host through ssh, all traffic are sending from my local host also. It will create burden on my local host. If i terminate SSH connection, it stopping the script at remote host. Also i need to do ssh to all my remote hosts.
I installed dovecot on my server and now the imap and pop3 ports are open. But when I want to telnet it, it's not possible.Code: Trying 127.0.0.1...telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out. Also I can't any ports else. But I can connect to it from other computers. I tried to connect to this from my PC and it was successful.
i have some problem with nagios adding remots hosts in localhost.cfg (/etc/nagios/objects/localhost.cfg) file in that i am able to only one remote host if i add one more host in that file i got below error #/usr/sbin/nagios -v /etc/nagios/nagios.cfg

i have made a java web server which works on localhost.but now i want to capable it handling many clients at a time.so clients running on different computer need machine name or IP address of server computer. How can i do this in java?
If I have a dnsmasq server and it dished out a IP address that I don't want it to and it still gives it to my machine no matter how many times I restart windows and issue ipconfig /renew|release or enable/disable the adapter, how do I force it to give my windows machine an IP I want it to have?
The only way I've accomplished this in the past is by rebooting my slackware system.
