It just happened for the second time some minutes ago (first time was yesterday): the update-manager window reported that 7MB needed to be download, but after clicking Install Updates 17.3MB was downloaded...It's a know issue in 10.10?
View 3 RepliesI am running ubuntu 10.04 with the fglrx driver installed with apt-get. I have an ATI Radeon HD AGP with 512MB of video ram. My bios window size is 64MB. The Xorg.0.log file shows that 512MB is recognized. I also tried checking the /proc/mtrr file and it shows two values one I believe is my ram size which looks to be correct at 1.5GB the other is 512MB which I think is my video ram size, but when I do an lspci -v the video ram size shows 256MB. I am trying to run Doom 3 and it only allows me to use 256MB of memory.

When I try to update my software through update manager, I get this error:
W: Failed to fetch [URL] Size mismatch
As a side note, when I enter Update Manager, it does not show 10.10 as an available update. I have checked my settings. I am quite kurfluddled by all of this.
I've a physical machine with FC9 running vmware server 1.0.6 with 2 virtual machines. Each virtual machine is also running FC9. Everything was running smoothly until one day, one virtual machine stop. I've checked /var/log/messages of that machine and it says:

The odd thing about all this is that the machine (both virtual and physical) have enough space left. This is the space available reported by df -h. Physical machine

Every time I try to do something, I always get: "no space left on device".
I am having issues trying to compile the alsa-linuxtant module and I am getting errors about not being able to find some files and the source needing to be reconfigured. Anyway the developers told me to try compiling on a pristine source to see if I could compile that way. When I went looking at kernel.org I did not find a 2.6.32-5 version. So I did some checking and to see just what version I have.

I have been asked to investigate some of our servers that run tripwire 2.3.0 on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server release 2.1AS (Pensacola)
We have the reports emailed to us using cron and twprint -m r -r report -t 4, it has been growing steadily and today it was 9mb It seems the database records go back to before 2004 and are being compared against today's files.
I really need to be informed what needs to be done to tripwire to keep it serviced through cron. I have tried to google this but could not find any information that seemed to answer my questions.

When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . I am trying to update using Update Manager and I get this message: Failed to fetch "Failed to fetch [URL]..404 Not Found" My system is 64 days out of date now.
I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. having had problems with getting grub2 to work on dual HDD setup...despite the most excellent advice on the forum i took the plunge and installed 10.10 from update manager within 10.04..... bingo fixed grub and now have dual boot again. but the update manager and synaptic package don't work because of libedata-cal1.2-6 file that remains..following other advice on the forum Advice gratefully received, how can i force an unistall of this package

After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just updated my server from Ubuntu 8.04 to 10.04 and now it cannot go past grub, at boot time, it would "give up waiting for root device", asking me to check whether I gave the right "root=..." or if I should increase the "rootdelay=..." in the command line argument and end up with the initramfs.
The machine is a Dell Poweredge 2900 with a HW RAID controller (I hope that should not matter, but just in case...). I tried to follow the instructions there to make sure grub is setup correctly, but without any luck.
