Software :: Want Video Player With 1 Frame Advance

Mar 26, 2011

Video player that runs on linux that allows for frame by frame advance. or that i can really really slow down . Because what i want if something that behaves like Quicktime. allowing for single frame advance.
My understanding is that VLC will never do that because it is more of a network stream ....animal.

also the player needs to play 422 uncompressed yuv yuy2 - avi or qt.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Looking For Video Cutter / Frame Saver?

Jun 6, 2010

I am looking for a video editor that will let me open an AVI video and then save individual frames as image files (preferably JPG), I looked through the "Ubuntu Software Center" the only one that I found in there that would do this is "Video Cut" but when I try to open the 600+ meg AVI video I have it closes a moment later.

Anyone know of a video editor that will open a file this big and not crash?

Ubuntu :: Video Driver - Get A Better Frame Rate While Playing C&C Renegade

Feb 19, 2009

I tried reinstalling a better driver for my laptop the other night so that I could get a better frame rate while playing C&C Renegade. I was only getting 10 FPS and my ping was insanely high. So I went about installing a new driver and when it rebooted it started up in low graphics mode, asking to switch the driver. I tried everything I could, but nothing seemed to work. Right now, I get the boot screen and login screen and it looks normal, but once I log in, it flashes my background like its loading without a problem, but then it goes to a white screen. I can see my mouse on the screen though, and I know everything is working behind the white screen, because I can click stuff and can see my CPU LED blink, and I can use my desktop cube when I hold CTRL+ALT+(arrow). So I'm officially confused. I'm assuming there has to be some way to restore my driver somehow... BTW, Same thing happens when I boot into Gnome, X script, and Gnome Failsafe. The only thing I can do is boot my Live CD.

Here are my specs:
Acer Travelmate 2450
40 GB Hard drive
CD-RW Drive
ATI Xpress 200M (up to 128 MB, which is what it's set at)
Atheros WLAN card

Ubuntu Multimedia :: FFMPEG Scaling - Get Some Weird Green Band At Bottom Of Frame In Converted Video

Jan 14, 2011

I've got a 1920x1080 video I've edited and rendered with Cinelerra, and I'm trying to use ffmpeg to transcode it to something smaller. However, when I use a command like this, for instance:

Code:

I inevitably get some weird green band at the bottom of the frame in the converted video. I know that there's some weird pixel stretching going on here, because the NTSC standard for 16:9 is 720x480 with rectangular pixels, and the 1080 version has square pixels, so I'm guessing the green band is an artifact of that process?

More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Need Best Video Player For System

May 2, 2010

I recently canned Windows to transition completely over to Ubuntu. The main reasons why I haven't gone with Ubuntu completely are the poor video playback in fullscreen as well as gaming. Recently I started playing games much less frequently, so that became a non-issue, however the video playback is still very inconvenient.

The main problem I have is tearing. The two players I got to work are VLC and the Gnome Movie Player program. I tried getting mplayer to work but I was a little confused on that one. It works better on Movie Player but there are some formats it won't play the audio on even though I have the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" installed.

Anyone have some tips on better media players out there? Does mplayer do better?

Ubuntu :: How To Change Default Video Player

May 3, 2010

Since upgrading to Lucid, I haven't been able to play videos in Totem or VLC player, though I've got all the necessary codecs. The sound plays, but I just get a black screen with (very) occasional flashes of the image. However, I've found that SMPlayer DOES work.

Is there a way to make it the default, so that when I double-click the vids, it will fire up automatically, instead of my having to use right-click/open-with ? I've tried changing it in the multimedia tab of 'Preferred Software', but that doesn't seem to work.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Video DVD Not Playing On DVD Player

I am trying to burn a video DVD created from "Devede" with K3B. The video DVD successfully burns, and plays in my computer, but does not play in any of the DVD players in the house. I used to user "ConvertXToDVD" when I was on Windows, but am trying to find a free/open source alternative on ubuntu. I am using all default options. I have looked in the settings for both programs, and I fail to see the problem here. Even the ISO created from devede seems to match up to the Video DVD (that works in the players) I had burned with ConvertXToDVD.

In Devede I have it so that the menu is disabled and it automatically plays the first title. Apparently this is not good enough.. I thought this program was supposed to be easy to use? What am I doing wrong here? I am using the same DVD-R I have used before on my Windows machine to great success. I am getting frustrated as I have went through 2 DVDs,
