Fedora Installation :: Upgrade RH9 To F10 - Install Fails - Installer Fails Media Check Due To "errors"

Jan 23, 2009

I am trying to upgrade RH9 to F10. I have downloaded dvd iso image i386. The SHA1 integrity check passes. The installer fails media check due to "errors". I did an independent verification of the DVD and zero errors found. Download was from Fedora's own torrent, so files should be verified anyway. If I bypass the media check I get the message : Running anaconda 11.4.1.62 the Fedora system installer - please wait.....

Fedora :: Software Installer And Yum Does Not Install?

Sep 19, 2010

I had to re-install both win XP pro and Fedora 13 (dual boot) after Windows crashed so badly that I had a "read error" at boot, unrecoverable (at last for me) by running the distribution DVD in recovery mode. Now everything seems to work fine, but the software installer: it does his job resolving dependencies and downloading, but does not install. It simply stops without any message, leaving me without three programs that I badly need. yum from the console does exactly the same. It reports an error, as below, but it seems ecovered by using another mirror:

[fcc@euclide ~]$ yum repolist
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit

Fedora Installation :: Looking For A Scripted Installer

Apr 23, 2011

we are working on a project which uses Fedora as the operating system. we are running our deliverables on up to 20+ machines of identical specifications, we have perused the whole package list (presented in the standard installer) and have a confirmed list of modules we wish to include, and we wish to know if there's anyone out there who is interested in writing a scripted installer which can be ran on the machines to perform unattended installation of F14/F15 on all the machines. a partial re-branding of the installer and boot screen would also be needed (to put it simple : adding the logo/some text of our project to existing Fedora brandings, while making sure the user will know the nice Fedora experience is embedded within in whole). please reply if you have interest in it and the know-how, and how much you wish to be reimbursed for your effort.

Software :: Can't Run Fedora Installer On MacBook Pro

Jul 10, 2011

I have a MacBookPro5,1 system. I used a boot menu program name rEFIt to triple boot between Mac OS X 10.6, Fedora (64-bit), and Windows.

I want to upgrade my Fedora installation to version 15, however first I need to upgrade to version 14. I downloaded and burnt the DVD images for both version 14 and 15. I cannot get either version to run on the MacBook Pro.

When I try the version 14 installation, I get the menu asking me if I want to upgrade/install a new system, boot to local disc, run a rescue, etc. After select the upgrade some text will appear on the screen about loading and configuring and then the screen goes black and the system just sits there doing nothing.

When I try the version 15 installation, I get the same menu as before. I select upgrade. Again the loading and configuration text appears on the screen, and then the system just sits there with a message about waiting for the hardware to initialize.

I tested the version 14 DVD on another system, and it will get past this stage of the installation to where it will prompt to test the installation media, so I assume the DVD is fine and would actually install properly on a system. I suspect the version 15 DVD is fine to, as I have never had any problem with any installation DVD's I've even burnt.

I suspect the problem has to do with the interaction between the setup program and the Macintosh.

What can I do so that I can upgrade my Linux installation on this system?

Fedora Installation :: Installer Bug / Crash On Windows 7?

Oct 7, 2009

I currently run windows 7, I am interested in dual booting, upon burning the .iso to the disc using imgburn, I had a few problems with the installer when I ran the live disc, I'll assume it was personal causes, I googled several things for a simple solution, I went with using the Disk Manager in Windows 7 to shrink my current partition which I only have one which is running Win 7 on 140 GB's, using the shrink function in windows I unallocated 20 GB of that partition, I used this option because the option in F11's installer would not work at all. I rebooted from disc, loading the distro, and run the installer via desktop choose the use free space option and I got an error crash when it tries to execute this option which isnt the only time I got this error bug causing me to exit the installer, I copied the debug information in the details, I hope this is something simple because F11 isn't worth this much time.

Fedora Installation :: Problem Getting Installer Work

Aug 13, 2010

im a new to Fedora and I think im gonna find it very "Professional". first off I need to get this thing installed.

Problem 1= no CD
Problem 2= no USB drive
Problem 3= USB modem so cannot install over internet.

Well I did some research then and found out EasyBCD 2.0 support booting from .iso files.Tought thats gonna be good idea to give a try but it just doesnt work I keep getting "grub>" or something like that.Another useful tool I found was "Unetbootin" which I saw can be boot from Hard Drive too. With this I get some blue screen loading some white thing and then "bang" error appears that "Sleeping forever". I guess its related that I boot off from HDD.If anyone have any good ideas how should I get it working or manually boot kernel in that "grub>" part ( which I tried but said file not found)

Fedora :: Yum Extender GUI Installer Fails On Trying To Get Updates?

Jun 1, 2011

I think I need some command line help here. I am trying to download the initial updates using Yum Extender GUI in LDXE desktop. It downloads the updates until about 90% then If I get any error it craps out. I have gotten errors relating to no key avaliable, sorry don't remember the precise text, and also that no repo is avalable for a specific pacakge. At this point there are no options given to skip, etc... just "OK" and Yum Extender closes and I have to start over. It seems to start over about were it left of, this leads me to believe the packges are being stored some where on the drive.

Without using the GUI, hey I'm trying to switch from Windoz, Is there a command line that will tell Yum to download all updates and install and skip errors? I imagine there must be if this package installer is working, it must be talking to the system in a similar manor.

Fedora Installation :: FC4 - Installer Does Not Recognize Hard Drive

Apr 18, 2009

I have this laptop that I just reformatted in hopes of doing a dual boot between XP and FC4. It is an Acer Aspire 5315-2153 (the Wal-Mart special). I reformatted the drive; the Windows partition is in NTFS and then I have a 10GB partition in FAT32 for Linux. When I try to install FC4, the disk boots into the installer, then it tells me that it does not recognize any hard drives (the disk in this laptop is a Hitachi HTS541680J9SA00). It asks me if I want to load any drivers, and I tried a few and still no success. Any way, after it goes through that, it tries to start anaconda and after that launches it goes to a black screen and nothing happens. So, did I do anything wrong in the Windows install that won't allow the disk to be found? The XP disk only allows a format in NTFS, otherwise I would have done FAT32 on the whole drive. Second, is the anaconda problem something related to the HDD issue, or does anyone think that it may be a separate issue?

Fedora Installation :: 11 Installer Fails When Making A Partition?

Jun 12, 2009

When using the manual partitioner on the fedora 11 installer on the live cd, both for 64 bit and 32 bit, it will not allow me to create a new partition. I understand that I have four primary partitions and it cannot have more than that, so I tried deleting one of the partitions, then creating the new ext4 partition for F11. It still fails and gives me the same bugsee attachment)

how to read this, especially since there is so much there. I see at the top it says that there are 4 primary partitions, could it possibly still be seeing 4 primary partitions when trying to create the new one, even though I am deleting one of them? Other than this, I truly have no idea what else I can do.

EDIT: Attachment wont load up for some reason, here is some of the error file:

Fedora Installation :: Installer Cannot Detect My Target Disk ?

Jul 12, 2010

I have a dual CPU Xeon machine that I have been using various versions of fedora on for years.

The machine has the following disk layout:

I currently have Fedora 10 and grub installed on hda and I had to jump through hoops to install such as disabling the promise controller and reassigning drives because that blasted /dev/mapper kept grabbing the Maxtor ATA drives although I didn't want it to.

Anyway, in the BIOS I can boot from the secondary IDE controller so I want to install Fedora 13 on hdb. Problem is, the Fedora installer won't detect the drive.

Its partition table is as follows:

There is approximately 69GB of free space on this disk but the blasted python based installer wont show the disk as a possible installation location. If I exit to a bash shell I see that the device nodes do exist and I can manually mount and manipulate the disk but the installer is brain dead where the disk is concerned.

I will mention that sdc, sdi, and sdj are used with mdadm to create high performance striped volumes. Also, sdc shows up under /dev/mapper and I don't want to use /dev/mapper at all. I want simple /dev/sd? mount points...no stinking /dev/mapper, and no stinkin volume manager wrappers...

Why I cannot get the installer to use /dev/sdb?

Is there a disk signature on /dev/hd[bc] that is causing them to be grabbed by /dev/mapper, and if so, how would I remove that signature from the drive? /dev/mapper is vacant under Fedora 10.

Fedora Installation :: 13 Installer Don't Detect Usb Hard Disk

Oct 12, 2010

I have a ssd cosair harddisk with both usb and sata connecters. If I connect it with sata anything is working fine, and I managed to install Fedora core 13.

But I also want to be able to use the harddisk when it is connected with usb and that causes problems.

When I boot the Fedora Core 13 dvd It can't detect my usb harddisk.

When booting in install mode it just don't detect the harddisk.

When booting the dvd in rescue mode it don't detect the harddisk, and it don't create any entries in /dev/ for the harddisk. It is like there is no disk at all.

I have tested this on 3 different computers, so it is not a problem with my specific motherboard. So either it is a problem between my harddisk and Fedora Core 13, or there is some problems with the usb drivers in the boot image used by the Fedora core 13 dvd.

The disk is working fine if I connect it via usb to an existing Windows install, so the usb connection is working.

I installed Fedora core 13 with the harddisk connected to sata and then re-connected the harddisk to usb. It then boot up, but complain about missing root filesystem. Most likely caused by missing usb driver in my kernel.

But anyway, what I really want is the ability to boot from both sata and usb, so I can take the harddisk with me and boot it on other computers with usb.

So is there a command which allows me to build an kernel image which can boot from usb or am I trying to do something which is not really supported?

I did update my fstab to use LABEL=myroot

There is 1 Windows partition(NTFS) and 1 linux partition on the disk. (No seperate /boot partition and no swap)

Fedora Installation :: Can't Retrieve Installer Metadata -- Internet Install CD?

Jun 13, 2009

I know that there have been a lot of messages (with repo correction info posted) for yum updates after install; but I'm trying to do an internet install of F11 and I'm getting the same message. Obviously I can't change a yum.conf file for this -- but it does give one the option to edit the location.

The default location is: [URL].. There's one other big flaw with the internet install -- it writes HD partition changes to the disk right after you set up the partition scheme; shouldn't it wait until it knows it can connect to the repository?? I had to boot to a Ubuntu live dvd to get on here to post this. I'm definitely not saving time using the internet install option.

I got online last night and found some of the info. on the yum updates issue, with different mirrors or repositores. So what I tried changing for the default repo / metadata location, using the edit option is:

I changed the word metalink to mirrorlist. I changed https to http. I tried using http://mirror.liberty.edu/pub (etc) which is actually an rpm fusion mirror. I likewise tried http://mirrors.cat.pdx.edu (etc.) I gave up and went to bed, and this morning I just tried the http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pub/fedora/linux/releases/$releasever/Everything/$basearch/os/ (and I also tried the above redhat.com address substituting i386 for basearch and 11 for $releasever) -- no go with any of that. Same error message about cannot retrieve installer metadata.

All of the other messages I've seen on this issue have been about Yum updates; not installs. Hopefully the install DVD will show up in the next couple of hours; but I'd like to make this work if I can ??

Fedora Installation :: FC 11 Live Installer Wiped Out NTFS Partition

Aug 21, 2009

This is my first time using Fedora. My previous experience is from Ubuntu. However I want to give a try for Fedora so I went ahead to install it on my new computer. Problem is that Fedora Installer (Live CD) wiped out my NTFS Partition. Causing my computer unable to recover Vista from factory DVD because it lost system partition as well. I want to know if this is my error or a bug in installer.

Original partition setup:
220 GB - Vista System Partition (NTFS)
14 GB - Recovery Partition (NTFS)

First I resized system partition under Windows Management in Vista:
170 GB - System
50 GB - Unallocated
14 GB - Recovery

Using GParted from Ubuntu 9.04 Live CD, moved recovery to the left:
170 GB - System
14 GB - Recovery
50 GB - Unallocated

Rebooted into Vista, make sure everything is fine. Then put in FC 11 Live CD, using custom layout setup in partition, intended partition layout is:
170 GB - System (NTFS) - Primary sda1
14 GB - Recovery (NTFS) - Primary sda2
200 MB - /boot (ext3) - Primary sda3
sda4 - Extended Partition
45.8 GB - / (ext4) - sda5
4 GB - swap - sda6

After I check my setup and pressed enter, it returned with unable to format /boot error: -1. Restart FC installer, it tells me that my hard drive needs to be re-initialized. I clicked no and reboot. BIOS tells me that no OS is found. Attempting to recover from factory DVD failed, telling me that system partition is gone. I want to know did I do something wrong or is this a bug in FC installer.
