I want to create a single file for my installer which will display the user license and when the user agrees it will ask for the user name and password and then install the package. The package is an rpm package. I have seen some programs which will do this like Java JDk setups.

Now I come back, the site has changed, and the USB key method too! I have tried to follow the instructions, but failed completely.,. Does anyone have an "easy" way to do this, or at least clearer explanations on how to proceed ?

All my torrents go to my home/username/Download/ folder, I could read/write yesterday but now I cant even copy the files to a flash drive.The error i get is "Cannot create regular file '/home/username/Download/file' : Read only file system.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have win 7 installed on a primary partition along with two other primary partitions containing a recovery partition and system files partitions. (don't know exactly what the latter is for.) I made a defrag and resized the win partition to make some free space for a primary ubuntu partition.I then inserted the 10.10 live disc and created a fat32 shared partition, a root (/), a /home Nd a swap in the advanced gparted menu, BUT every time I try to initiate the installation I get an error message saying that installer couldn't create the fat32.

First I wanted dual boot, Ubuntu on separate partition, but then I discovered that I have four primary partitions for windows. SYSTEM (I think nessesary for windows boot) c: (where windows is installed) RECOVERY (for restoring factory settings) HP_TOOLS (needed for right function of HP BIOS)
ok, what now? Windows partition tool let me create dynamic partition (not extended) but ubuntu partition tool can see only four partitions.
Then the wubi idea came. If I can't have dual boot wubi can be solution. But it failed too. Behavior is similar to

that is installer say "extracting kernel" and few seconds later just close. Sadly I can't find log file (searching filesystem for word wubi and searching directory c:/users/hater/appdata/local/temp) to discover what's the problem.
After my normal update of the system, firefox is showing up with missing plugin "Download Flash Player" msg. The system thinks that the player is installed. How can I get the system to install a rpm flash file installer that I have downloaded?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded WINE and I have downloaded the WoW install.exe file and all goes good during installation (after i simply double clicked the install.exe file) but about half way through I got an error message that "installer is unable to read file C:/commen files/world of warcraft. I tried teh same thing on Z: and it did the same thing. What can I do to fix this or how else can i download/install WoW? i'm not running windows and linux, just straight up Ubuntu, nothing else.

I have the install package that i copied over to the machine using WinSCP i then gave the file executable permissions by using the command "chmod +x PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin" But when i try to install the package by using the command "sudo ./PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin" It gives me the following message.
sudo: unable to execute ./PlasticSCM-professional-2.8.148.0-linux-installer.bin - No such file or directory
why it isn't recognizing it? I know the file was there because i was able to change permissions and i can see it with -ls command.
I plugged in my USb drive into my computer yesterday and tried to delete a folder. I was unable to do so and got the following message

So when I click on delete I get another error message:

At this point I can only click on Skip, Skip All, or Cancel.
I have not changed anything on the stick recently so I dont know what is causing the problem.
Is there any program/script that can create a torrent file for each file in a directory? I have been looking all over but can't seem to find anything of the sort. I have 700+ files I REALLY don't want to make my self.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to create a logon script (or somesuch) that creates a file (if it doesn't already exist) and checks the file for some info otherwise. If it finds a given trigger in that file, it logs into a local database and does some operations.
Now my problem isn't with creating that file or even getting it to function as a logon script -- it's with permissions. After the logon script creates the file, I want that user to have read access on it ONLY. Further, I don't want to give the user any kind of root access so that they could do the database operations in question or chown/chmod the file.
What's the best practice here? I'm noticing that whenever the script runs (in .bashrc right now) the script runs with the current user's permissions. Ideally, I'd like to make it so the login script can run at a higher level of permissions, (higher than the user has). Is this even possible? What's the best way to do this?
I was just testing specifying limit on file size to a user and have added the following to /etc/security/limits.conf bob soft fsize 100 This basically should have said not to allow bob to create anyfile greater than 100Kb in size.
But the interesting thing is, if bob already has any file which is greater than 100Kb in size, it even doesn't allow to log him into the system both from console and SSH. Also nothing is logged in logs.. How do I configure it so that, bob can login to the system even though he has any file greater than 100Kb (but doesn't allow him to create file which are greater than 100Kb) ??
