My trashcan is pointing to the "/" directory instead of the "~/.Trash" directory. When I type in "trash:/" in Nautilus, it is also opening the "/" directory.Does somebody know how to change this?I am running RHEL5 and I am using GNOME.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been looking into libtrash to give me the ability to recover files that users mistakenly delete from Samba/Netatalk/ProFTPD shares.But I have some questions about getting a specific libtrash configuration.We have a RAID6 shared files partition and all our users have full read and write access to /mnt/raid6/shared through Samba/Netatalk/ ProFTPD...Reading through all the docs supplied with libtrash it seems to suggest that the trash folder can only be located in the user's home folder.
This has prompted a couple of questions:
1) Having gone through the docs, I can't find a place to specify the location of the trash folder.I can specify the name of the trash folder, but it seems like it's automatically created under the user's home directory.I'm looking to have the trash folder also stored on the RAID6 partition.Because the boot/OS drive is a smaller 120GB drive, and the RAID6 is 4TB. So if someone deleted 3TB of files, the trash folder wouldn't be able to take them all as the trash folder's on the 120GB boot drive.
Is there a way to specify the absolute location of the trash folder?I'd like to have a single trash folder for all users of the machine.
2) Since this is a server, most of the daemons will be running as user nobody/samba/ whatever. Not an actual interactive user account with a home folder etc.
I have read the note about this in the docs and it seems that user nobody will need write access to the trash folder in order to put files in there.However it will rarely be the case that it's an interactive user removing files from the terminal. I'm only looking for protection if any of the server daemons remove files.
Does libtrash run in the background or is it only active when an interactive user is logged in?Since it seems libtrash is activated by a variable in /etc/profile
Is libtrash suitable for what I'm looking for?Anyone got any alternate suggestions for what I'm trying to do?Is there something I could be doing on the filesystem level? The FS of the RAID 6 array is ext3 but can always change that if there's something better out there!OS is CentOS 5.5 64bit

This change caused boot up problems and I had to change my fstab file back to get going again.

It's installed properly the second time and almost does what I want except that when I type 'convert' in the prompt it gives me '-bash: /usr/bin/convert: No such file or directory'
The actual location of convert is /usr/local/bin/convert How do I change it so the convert command is pointing to the right executable?
I connect to the WPA2-secured wifi of a university. They use 802.11b/g on the 2.4 GHz band and 802.11a/n on the 5.2 GHz band. Both have the same SSID xyz (for roaming).Now, when I connect to the SSID xyz, ubuntu 11.04 (natty) chooses the Access Point with the highest Strength. However, this is a 802.11g Access Point which is very slow because of high usage and there is no 802.11n available. Slow pings make it unusable.network-manager is just too stupid to connect to the much faster 5GHz 802.11n AP.Windows 7 autmatically connects to the 5GHz 802.11n Adapter with 300Mbit/s. That's what I would expect from ubuntu as well. I think Mac OS X also performs great in such situations.
The only workaround for me is to enter the BSSID (Mac-Address) of the 5 GHz AP directly in network-manager. That works and I have 802.11n with up to 300 Mbit/s. However, this is not the perfect solution, because now I can't use roaming any more (we have lots of APs here!).Do you have any Ideas to prefer 5 GHz band over 2,4 GHz band? I also tried the "band" gconf option as well as kernel module options of module iwlagn with no success.
when I installed Ubuntu 9.10 I put in one time setting but it was wrong, and now I don't know where to change it. I tried to change the time preferences, but on reboot I am back to the wrong time.
I know the data is in there somewhere and I can change if I knew where it was.
When I move something to Trash it doesn't show the option of "Empty Trash". I can use "move to Trash" and it just moving there like some ordinary folder, but shift+del give me an option for deleting the files. Using OpenSUSE 11.3 32bit.

But when I go to .local/share/Trash there are no files there! Anyway, I tried using the command "sudo rm -rf .local/share/Trash", it shows no error, but the files continue when I click in the trash icon.

Packets from my local network are just routed through ppp0 and now the fun part starts: I want to MARK (netfilter...) all packets originating from one specific user on that box in order to use another routing table that will contain a default route via the ppp1 interface.Marking seems to work fine as does the second routing table. I was wondering if there is any way to SSH from one computer to another and completely bypass a router or any other network infrastructure. The reason I ask is because my robot ( same one in this post ) often needs to change which wireless network it automatically connects to, however it is getting annoying to have to drag out a monitor and plug it in along with a keyboard and mouse every time this needs to happen. Instead I'd much rather just plug my laptop into the other computer, SSH in and change the network myself.
So I thought I would ask you kind people if this is possible. The robot's computer has unused ethernet and USB ports, and I'd like to use those if at all possible (and with linux, anything is possible! -- sorta). I thought about doing something with ad-hoc, but this would limit my range (in infrastructure mode I can control the thing anywhere there is internet), and is to be avoided.
I'm working with a program that uses Open Motif to create all of the widgets, including the Open File dialog box (obviously). However, Open Motif being kinda old-timey, 80's vintage, and for the most part now an abandoned project, it is quite clunky. So, actually what I need to do is to open some files located on my work server. I have already successfully connected to the relevant server directories with Samba, and with programs built with GTK+ (such as GIMP) I can open files across the network because I have created a bookmark in Nautilus, and those bookmarks appear in the Open File dialog box created by GTK+. Now, Open Motif is different: it doesn't see network locations, orNautilus shortcuts. When I type "smb://serveripyadayada" in the search folder, it really doesn't like it and complains. So, what do I do? Can I get somehow Open Motif to open a network location? Or can I do a run-around and place a shortcut in the file system that points to the network location?

Anyway I am missing the possibility of writing manually the folder you want to go on nautilus using the Location bar. It was used to have some kind of icon which you can click and it switched between graphich breadcrumbs or the location of the folder and you could changed it manually, you know what I mean?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to delete some files off of my USB drive and it was being glitchy and really slow so I pulled the drive out and put it back in so it would read normally again. I now have an "untitled folder" in my trash that can't be deleted, and the error says "no such file or directory". Unlike a lot of the other problems I've read with not being able to delete the trash files, I don't think this is a permissions problem.
I probably made a stupid mistake and went into the .Trash-1000 folder for the USB drive itself and tried to delete the files, but each time I did that it just duplicated the original folder and renamed it, and now I can't delete those files either!
