I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. From several days my Trash icon is disappeared from the bar. The real problem is that I cannot even access Trash from nautilus. When I click Trash in the sidebar, it says "The folder contents could not be displayed: Sorry, could not display the contents of 'trash': operation not supported"I really need to visit trash since i deleted an important directory by accident and need to recover it from trash.

I've also tried using nautilus to empty the trash but it didn't work either. I really need to free up some space because I'm down to 1.6 GBs of free space

When I tell my trash to empty it will either say it will but the files will still be there or it will say a can't b/c i didn't delete it from my trash(screenshot). I don't know what to do to get it to get rid of the files since I tried telling it to bypass the trash and that didn't do anything.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm a beginner at backing up my Ubuntu system, but I've set Simple Backup to do a backup once a week. I deleted the oldest of these files, but now it's sitting in my Trash and I can't empty it. I get a permission denied error for the folders within the backup folder in the trash, yet I can't restore the folder either - Ubuntu says it 'failed to determine the original path' for the folder. I've just discovered this in Xubuntu Jaunty, but I'm confident the same will happen in any other WM I choose (I have several installed - I like variety ).
It's not a huge file, but it's hanging out there and I'd like to get it either deleted or restored. Possibly I oughtn't to have deleted it in the first place (it usually lives in /var/backup, which I can't access except as root). The files, which I probably deleted /as/ root, show up in my user trash rather than root's trash. I found the trash in ~/.local/share/Trash/files, but I'm not sure if just deleting them as root would be a good.
I switched from OpenSUSE to Fedora and I moved a folder full of coursework and a backup of that folder (which was pretty outdated) onto a usb. Once I had installed Fedora, I first deleted the outdated backup, intending to make another fresh one but then I realised that somehow the original files hadn't copied from OpenSUSE onto the USB.
The situation I'm in now is that I only have the outdated backup in the trash can so I need that back but I get the following error message when I try and recover it:

my pendrive has virus. So i copied folder name "untitled folder" and pasted in desktop in suse linux. the folder (untitled) contains another folder name "file system". this file system folder contains two files (1)desktop.ini (2)pagefile.exe Then i delete the "untitled" to trash. the folder vanishes in desktop and landed in trash. When i try to empty the trash, the "untitled" refuses to get deleted. How to get rid of this virus in trash. I logged in another user not in root. even I am not able to change the permission to root.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with a couple of folders in the Trash. If I click on the Trash icon, 2 foldersare there, and when I try to delete them, it just says "Failed to delete the item from the trash"
But when I go to .local/share/Trash there are no files there! Anyway, I tried using the command "sudo rm -rf .local/share/Trash", it shows no error, but the files continue when I click in the trash icon.
I managed to delete the panel with the trash can. I've tried putting the mouse over the spot but I can't get it to add a panel.

When I try to open the trash, Ubuntu freezes, window goes black and white, and I end up needing to restart some of the time if not force quit. Is there any way I can open the trash bin? View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to delete some files off of my USB drive and it was being glitchy and really slow so I pulled the drive out and put it back in so it would read normally again. I now have an "untitled folder" in my trash that can't be deleted, and the error says "no such file or directory". Unlike a lot of the other problems I've read with not being able to delete the trash files, I don't think this is a permissions problem.
I probably made a stupid mistake and went into the .Trash-1000 folder for the USB drive itself and tried to delete the files, but each time I did that it just duplicated the original folder and renamed it, and now I can't delete those files either!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and installed k3b from the software center and remember seeing that after it was installed, an additional 180MB would be taken up. so the installation process took about 2-3 minutes after unpackaging or whatever it does. But when I went to uninstall it, it took like 2 seconds. Is there a way to clean up packages that hasn't been uninstalled all the way or haven't been used? Is that normal?
