View 3 RepliesWhen I move something to Trash it doesn't show the option of "Empty Trash". I can use "move to Trash" and it just moving there like some ordinary folder, but shift+del give me an option for deleting the files. Using OpenSUSE 11.3 32bit.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a problem with a couple of folders in the Trash. If I click on the Trash icon, 2 foldersare there, and when I try to delete them, it just says "Failed to delete the item from the trash"
But when I go to .local/share/Trash there are no files there! Anyway, I tried using the command "sudo rm -rf .local/share/Trash", it shows no error, but the files continue when I click in the trash icon.
When I delete things from my home directory, or from my desktop,my trash can on the desktop stays empty, and the Empty Trash in the right-click menu stays disabled. The files disappear from view, but the disk space remains labeled as used. The only way I can empty my trash is through the trash on the panel. Weird
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to move certain files to Trash using File Browser. I continually get this message:"Cannot move file to trash, do you want to delete immediately?"I am logged in under my user name; I (my user name) am the owner of these files; ALL permissions are on (rwx for owner, group, and other); and Trash is empty. Still I get this message.
View 4 Replies View RelatedCan Trash be configured differently than default ?
I use 4 different partitions (dual boot FC13 and XP) and when deleting a file on an ntfs, it leaves a .Trash-500 directory. I would like to immediately delete stuff on ntfs (bypassing trash), AND leave the linux partitions defaulted to go into Trash.
Having .Trash-500 directory on the ntfs causes problems with windows that I have to resolve each time I forget and move files and directories between the systems.
I have a room-mate whose computer is running the live KDE version of Fedora 15. I don't know how he did it. But he cant seem to find the trash can. [URL] His machine is a 2.6 GHz Intel core2duo There where a couple of extra folders which didn't seem to have anything in them. also he would have to delete files either using root or command line he doesn't seem to know a lot about computers.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI deleted a bunch of things with root (old home folders) but now I can't empty the trash....where is the directory that the root trash goes to? I'll do a terminal delete from there but I can't seem to find it.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have another complaint:I cannot find the Trash icon. I want to clean up my disk space. I googled how to delete files and I wasn't sure which way was best. I sometimes use the 'trash' and 'empty trash bin' except I cannot find the icon.I assume there is a command for doing that but after googling, there are only a few (OLDER) posts or articles of doing it in older versions of Fedora and they're all Gnome-based. My install is KDE.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI switched from OpenSUSE to Fedora and I moved a folder full of coursework and a backup of that folder (which was pretty outdated) onto a usb. Once I had installed Fedora, I first deleted the outdated backup, intending to make another fresh one but then I realised that somehow the original files hadn't copied from OpenSUSE onto the USB.
The situation I'm in now is that I only have the outdated backup in the trash can so I need that back but I get the following error message when I try and recover it:
Quote:
Error while copying to "desktop". There was an error getting information about the destination.
And then when I select the "Show more details" drop-down:
Quote:
Error stating file '/media/5E7A-32A1/desktop': No such file or directory
I have deleted alot from it (moved to trash) but I have not reclaimed the space that the items occupied.how can i delete the trash / recycled items off the drive
View 4 Replies View RelatedI moved a few files from a directory in my home directory structure to the KDE trash folder, and then deleted them from the trash folder. About a minute later I regretted this, and now I'd like to see if there's any way to recover the files. First, are there any good utilities for restoring accidentally deleted files? If so, where would I look for these files? Does the KDE trash config file actually correspond to a physical directory somewhere, or do the files just remain hidden in their original location?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just accidently deleted /usr/lib as root, how do I restore it from the trash can from command line? Seeing as how no programs will now run. I can't seem to find /root/.Trash, no such folder seems to exist ,or did I just royally screw myself?
Edit:
First off where is the Trash folder for root in Fedora 11 I have googled and looked everywhere I can't get a straight answer. It is not in /root/.Trash for one.
When I am deleting pictures using gThumb image viewer it asks "The selected images will be moved to Trash, are you sure?" And if I press "yes" button - it moves message to ~/.Trash, can it be configured to move them into "real" trash? I have created symbolic link and it solved part of my problems, but files "restore" option is unavailable to files which were moved in to trash by this method.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to remove the Computer, Trash, and Home folder from the desktop and have them just in the panel? I like a clean desktop with no icons, and would like to use the top panel as a "dock" of sorts.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing Fedora 14 with Gnome 2.3 Desktop utilizing Compiz and Emerald theme manager. When I empty the trash, the icon is still the FULL Trash icon. I tried using different Emerald Themes, and different Icon sets, but still the Trash Icon stays full. I checked the trash folder in $HOME/.local/share/trash and found nothing, no hidden files.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am an Ubuntu refugee. Allow me to explain what happened. I am dual booting with Windows 7 and F15 x64.
(1) I wanted to created a shortcut of my "Documents" folder in my Windows in Nautilus
(2) I opened the Windows drive by double clicking the drive under Devices, and navigated to my "Documents" folder (F15 already has ntfs-3g installed so no hassles there)
(3) I then dragged the folder to the sidebar to place it under the Trash icon--but for some reason, it would not let me do this, and accidentally got placed in the Trash bin.
(4) problem is I can't see this folder in the Trash bin (it is not even hidden)
(5) To check if the Trash bin actually captures items when we move files/folders to Trash, I tried sending a folder from my Home directory to Trash, and the folder appears in the Trash; it can even be restored to Home.
(6) Only files/folders from the NTFS formatted Windows drive do not appear in the Trash folder if sent there.
(7) I have Google searched this problem, but to no avail.
(8) I even thought that because the drive is not mounted 'officially' I would mount it using command line:
Code:
(9) But still I can't see the folders in the Trash
(10) Interestingly, when I try to unmount the Windows drive 'formally' then I get a message if I want to "empty the Trash"--I obviously chose not to--so I know there is my Windows Documents folder in there somehere.
Recently did a fresh install of F12, previously used F11 without any problems. Now Evolution move ALL received messages to trash automatically. I have had to make rules to move each e-mail to the inbox but still all incoming messages go straight to Trash.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI managed to delete the panel with the trash can. I've tried putting the mouse over the spot but I can't get it to add a panel.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have deleted many things to my trash bin that I want to get back. When I try to open the trash, Ubuntu freezes, window goes black and white, and I end up needing to restart some of the time if not force quit. Is there any way I can open the trash bin? If I hover my mouse over the trash icon in my panel it says I have 485 items in it.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently tried to delete some files off of my USB drive and it was being glitchy and really slow so I pulled the drive out and put it back in so it would read normally again. I now have an "untitled folder" in my trash that can't be deleted, and the error says "no such file or directory". Unlike a lot of the other problems I've read with not being able to delete the trash files, I don't think this is a permissions problem.
I probably made a stupid mistake and went into the .Trash-1000 folder for the USB drive itself and tried to delete the files, but each time I did that it just duplicated the original folder and renamed it, and now I can't delete those files either!
I wanted to delete files in the trash but I accidentally clicked 'Remove from panel'
Now my Recycle bin is gone, how to get it back?
I tried everything, panel is removed too.
I'm not able to delete files, because Xubuntu doesn't find the trash bin. An error message pops up, telling me that the bin couldnt be found or created. Some days ago I deleted some .trash and other hidden files from a USB-stick, maybe this is the reason. How could I recover the bin?

I'm using Ubuntu 9.10. From several days my Trash icon is disappeared from the bar. The real problem is that I cannot even access Trash from nautilus. When I click Trash in the sidebar, it says "The folder contents could not be displayed: Sorry, could not display the contents of 'trash': operation not supported"I really need to visit trash since i deleted an important directory by accident and need to recover it from trash.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated to KDE 4.2 when it came out on openSUSE 11.1 and things were working OK.
Now I can no longer send files to the Trash. I get an error in Dolphin saying "The trash has reached its maximum size! Cleanup the trash manually."
I deleted a bunch of stuff from my Trash and I have 1.7GB free on my /home partition so it's not a lack of space.
