I am trying to get Skype set up for voice chat. I tested my laptop's built-in mic by messaging echo123...
The test where I called the bot worked fine. However, when I had the bot call me, the playback was silent. What could be the cause of this? I have searched extensively and cannot find a solution.
I just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. Everything works well, but I have problem with sound. Output is OK as I can hear any sound from the computer; but there is no input sound from the mic. I am unable to record any voice or talk in voice chat.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am brand new to Linux (Ubuntu 10.10 is what I use), and always used Yahoo Messenger back when I had Windows. Why are there no programs that allow for Voice calls to individual users? (not chat rooms, as I greatly despise them, but calls from one user to another) I was told Gyachi has that, but everything I tried does not work. Pidgin doesn't allow for voice chatting either, and the only version of Yahoo messenger that is available for Unix is extremely old and outdated.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm using finch as my main chat client but I have some issues, While on Lubuntu 10.10 I get the message "segmentation fault" when I try to engage /call, I also tried starting voice chat In pidgin and pidgin also crashes. this does not occur under Ubuntu 10.10.I have the voice/video plugin installed for pidgin and from what I have been able to derive from the documentation both finch and pidgin uses the same lib.and pls no referring to use other programs, I want to fix this specific Issue with finch.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Ubuntu 9.10 trying to get yahoo voice chat to work. Thing I have tried is Gyache now everything works but I cant talk. I can hear but not talk. When I hit the talk button the program goes grey. I have wine installed with Yahelite but when I open up YahVox I get the box open and no one is in there. Ycabby does not work for so I download the three cabs and extracted the files and copped the files to the system32 folder. I tried to the mighty google but I get a whole lot of nothingness.

Is there any messenger that supports voice for Ubuntu? aMsn and Empathy does not work. aMsn says that it's due to a protocol change in Live Messenger. Lately I've found out that voice through msn live messenger is real good in clarity and it hardly breaks up. Any way to connect with Live messenger for voice chat.

I have tried to use my mic with Skype on my Windows XP machine, it works fine. Hence, it is not my mic issue.
I'm running Ubuntu Maverick on an Intel H55 mobo. I have the sound configured to output through speakers on my monitor, via HDMI. That has been working fine. Last night I installed Skype (2.1.0.81) in order to chat to someone back in UK. When I go to the sound devices configuration in Skype, each of the devices (Microphone, Speakers and Ringing) only have a single choice: 'PulseAudio server (local)'.
In order to get my usb-connected phone handset working with Skype I have had to go to the main sound preferences and alter both input and output to '9980 Analog'. This works fine - I can make a Skype test call and playback my own voice. However, all my system sounds now go out on the usb phone handset - also the Skype ring goes to the handset, which is pretty useless because it can't be heard from more than a couple of feet away.
How can I make Skype use the 9980 device for voice in and out, and use the system speakers 'Internal Audio Digital (HDMI)' for the ringing, while leaving all the system sounds to go out on the HDMI output too? I'm sure that I managed to make Skype work much better on an older system (using Gutsy, or Intrepid???). It seems, to me that there is a lack of fine audio control in my system.
I have installed Skype 2.1 (Beta) in linuxmint Julia, now when I am communicating with anyone or video conferencing, I am able to hear the other person but the other person is unable to hear my voice, I talked with someone else who is facing the same problem in Ubuntu.

Skype informs me that I must change my settings from Pulse audio to ALSA using a program called pavucontrol. I must delete Pulse audio, but although i have tried I can see no way to do this.Pavu control does not seem to install either.

Does anyone know of a good client with good video and voice quality that will work on both platforms. I'd like it to use open standards so at least we can use different OS specific clients if one is not available for both platforms. Googling hasn't yielded much and some of the results refer to really old (~2006) articles or apps. I hope I'm not doomed to using Skype. I've resisted so long with using SIP clients for voice but am stumped now that I want to include video.

When I tried to write messages in the chat they couldn't receive them. When I tried to call nothing worked. After that it seemed that Skype was completely blocked. I clicked with the right button on the green icon of Skype and chose "quit" but it wouldn't close. 1 I logged off from Ubuntu and on again. I opened Skype. I made right click in the green icon and chose "Options"
2 I went to the "Sound Devices" menu in the left part of the window
3 I removed the tick for "Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels"
4 I closed Skype and opened it again and the sound problem was gone.
I have managed to install Skype on 11.3. I am able to call and even video call but when i try to chat. Skype just crashes.
