I installed Netbook Launcher on Ubuntu, it works almost perfect, but when the number of icons on some menu option is large enough (like on System) the scrollbar is not long enough and the last icons get cut off, so I can't completely see "Time and Date" for example... Is this a known bug?
is there a way to add Internet Bookmarks to the Launcher?
Is it possible to disable the icons in the bookmarks tool bar? You know what I mean: my facebook bookmark always has this little F right next to it, the ..... bookmark has the red and white ..... icon, etc.
Those are pretty nice, but they don't really work within the theme that I am using (airlines).
To relax my eyes, I usually pick less colourful themes. So it'd be cool to get rid of all those obtrusive icons.
I know that some firefox themes don't have them. But I think I like the default one, just not the icons.
I have done a search there and I didn't find any discussion on this. My apologies if this has already been discussed. In which case, an admin can always close this thread, and redirect me.

I set up all my icons on the bookmarks toolbar, but after restarting all the icons are the same one.
i.e. I have 10 reddit bookmarks and no gmail,ubuntu etc. Only happens on this machine, not my work machine that has ubuntu10.10 as well.
I don't find the little icons and tiny previews that iceweasel seems to make by grabbing an icon from a webpage at all helpful, and consider them a security risk.I have been using Debian Lenny for some time and have tried hard to foil the chrome engine (?) xul_runner (?) from sticking these icons in various places. But it still manages to stick them in, of all places, my bookmark file. How do I prevent that?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing latest Firefox on my new PC and importing bookmarks from old PC, none of my bookmarks in the pull down table have individual icons as seen on the navigation bar- just the 'blank page' icon. I've deleted bookmarks,navigated to the page and bookmarked it again,but still the blank page icon. Have re-installed Firefox but still no joy.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm a pro Windows user, but I'm kinda new to Linux/Ubuntu.
I've installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix on my notebook and I've having terrible hiccups. When I boot the notebook, it comes to the login screen and I login, and all is well so far.
After the login animation, it shows me my wallpaper, and the top panel, and the netbook-launcher is just launching when a portion of the screen turns white - like it's hanged. I press Ctrl+Alt+F1, Alt+F4 and Alt+F2 but with no luck. The only way out of this is a cold reboot(pressing the power button for 4 seconds). After a number of reboots, it logs in.
I don't know if this helps or if it has anything to do with the problem, but I added Pidgin to the startup applications a few days back.
I've installed ubuntu netbook remix on my Asus Eee Pc. I've fixed the wireless and various issues on it. This morning when I rebooted my computer the netbook launcher failed to launch and there were no icons on the menu. When I clicked on the go home applet it appears inactive and the windows are not minimized. When I typed netbook-launcher in terminal it gave a single line output named segmentation fault. I dont want to reinstall ubuntu.

Everything is peachy.I would much prefer the icons in the launcher to be a lot smaller though, anyone have any idea how to scale them down? I reckon about 75% the size they are now would be about perfect.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering how I could reorder/drag n drop/move the unity-2d (qt version) icons in ubuntu 10.10, like you would in the mutter version unity. I can move the launcher up and down, I just can't pull them off the launcher and drag them around. Is this a bug or has it just not been implemented yet? Other than this, I love unity 2d and can't wait for the compiz-based unity 3D to use in 11.04
View 6 Replies View RelatedI've just installed the new Ubuntu 11.04 and encountered a strange problem. The Launcher bar appears, everything is ok, but i can see no icon on the Unity Launcher. When i move the mouse over the launcher, it tells me where the icons should be. The apps also open when I click in those places. But NO icon? Can anybody tell me why is this happening? It is very annoying. I would accept it easier if it didn't work at all.. but not this way.

Can I make it just like windows7, let it only appears when app is running?
I have done a clean install of Lucid netbook remix on a Dell mini-12 laptop.
Finally managed to get the broadcom wireless driver packages and poulsbo drivers to install correctly and decided to install all the offered updates.
After reboot I get the menu bar at the top but then desktop flashes between white and my background image for ages but does not give me the normal netbook tabs etc.
If I try a restart I get a pop-up saying 'Netbook Launcher is not responding'.
Initially on a fresh install, I install an icon theme to /usr/share/icons and a few extra icons that I use in desktop, taskbar, and menu launcher icons to /usr/share/pixmaps. Anyway, it all works just fine. Again, no problems at all.
Today, I decided why in the world would I separate the two, and why not just put all my icons inside my icon set in /usr/share/icons, and then just reset those launchers. No biggie.
However, for some odd reason icons that I've set in launchers on my taskbar and in the menu won't stay/hold, and it just remains a generic icon. Why? They are the EXACT same icons that were in /usr/share/pixmaps. All I did was put them inside /usr/share/icons/my-theme. I don't get it.
And just to see if it worked, I put them back inside the /pixmaps folder and they work. So obviously, not a big deal, but I would love to know why. What is the difference that is preventing me from having them all work in my /icons folder?
I've refreshed, restarted, and retried over and over to see if it was just a glitch, but to know avail.
Is there a way I can remove the backing to the Unity launcher icons? I want to make it so that I can make them look like iOS app icons, and the Unity dock just resizes the icon and adds a background to it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA week or so ago I upgraded from UNE 10.04 to 10.10 and I can't stand the Unity interface, mostly because the full color icons on the left are really distracting.
How do I either
a) switch back to the old UNE interface (preferred)
or
b) change to the standard desktop?
I have been running the 10.10 Netbook version for about 3 weeks, as as a dual boot with Windows XP on an MSI Wind netbook primarily with an external monitor (and the netbook monitor off). Because I am using an external monitor, I'd like to get more of a full desktop experience. However, when I read on the forum how to get Gnome desktop workin, or even the desktop-switcher utility, I think there is something wrong with my installation.
I have the unity launcher on the left, which does not appear to have any easy way to add items. I have the bar across the top, which has the logout/logoff/shutdown button, clock and a few icons (bluetooth, network, etc.) on the right. On the far left, I have an icon that brings up the "Microsoft Bob"-like menu (Web, Music, Photos, Games, etc.). I don't have any menu (System, Applications, etc.). When I logout, I have no option to log in using gnome desktop.
Why don't I have many of these options, that other users describe? What is the best way for me to get the full gnome desktop? When I go into synaptic and search for gnome desktop, dozens of items come up, including many that are marked as installed.
Is there a way to turn off the 'launcher' style desktop on ubuntu netbook remix, that doesn't involve reinstalling?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe Compiz Setting page for Unity will not let me set the launcher to autohide or other hiding option, and the Experimental page will not let me reduce the icon size. The lack of hiding is another as the left edge of windows can disappear under the the Launcher.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to 11.04 and I've been tweaking Unity to get the desktop just the way I like it. I've come across two minor problems though:
1. When I tweak the icon size settings in the Unity tab of CCSM, the icons do not change size; they remain at the default "48" setting regardless of what I type in.
2. When I set the Unity launcher to auto-hide (also in the Unity tab of CCSM), it stays at the default "dodge windows" setting.
Are there any workarounds to change these settings when tweaking them in CCSM's interface does not work? (Or is there some trick I don't know to get CCSM to work properly?)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am facing audio clipping issues when dmix is used for playback. For the test we used a full scale sine wave tone generated using software and encoded as "Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz, Mono". The audio is getting cut out at a 2-3 second interval during playback. This happens only for a fraction of second but it is consistent. This does not happen when audio is played back on the device directly but only when going through dmix. We have observed that there were differences in audio cutting off when the sampling rate was set to 8000Hz and 32000 Hz in asound.conf. The contents of asound.conf is pasted below for your reference:

Does this occur due to non-optimal settings of the parameters (buffers, periods) in the configuration or is it some other issue with the ALSA library or the kernel? Please ask if any more setup/configuration settings are required for reference.
I've installed Office 2007 under wine, and would like to add launchers for Word, Excel, etc to the Unity launcher bar.
So, I've created a launcher on the Desktop that will run Word with wine. I've changed the icon to the Word Icon and everything works great from the desktop. If I drag that launcher to the Unity bar, it adds it, but changes the icon to the springboard default icon that new launchers use. Please see attached picture.
As a side note, I am really starting to like Unity (puts on flamesuit), but it seems very easy to break the install of 11.04. I've had to reinstall 4 times now.
I've downloaded VideoLan (VLC) via Yast but the icon was placed in the audio folder. How do I move it to the video player folder? Also, where are additional icons stored? I run SuSE 11.2 (boxed version) with KDE.
