Is there any way to turn off desktop flipping in Enlightenment. It is getting extremely annoying being suddenly switched to another desktop when my mouse pointer touches the edge of the screen. On the Virtual Desktops configuration screen, I have everything I could find related to flipping unselected, but I'm still getting desktop flipping.
I just picked up a 3g modem from T-mobile that I cannot get to work with 10.04Inserting the device and running lsusb gives Bus 002 Device 002: ID 19d2:1201 ONDA Communication S.p.A. I installed usb-modeswitch but I don't know how to configure the usb-modeswitch.conf I know I need to provide the default vendor and product as what is given above vendor=0x19d2 and product=0x1201 but I don't know what to put for the target vendor and product. I'm sure vendor is the same 0x19d2, but the product.. I don't know what to put for the target product so the usb storage will flip to usb modem.
Or maybe I'm completely wrong about how I'm going about this.I've researched this numerous places:[URL]nd I can see the basic idea of how to proceed, but I think I'm stuck at flipping the device from storage to modem mode.I've got 14 days to return this thing if I can't get it to work. I'm willing to mess around for all 14 of them if we can get this to work and help out any other ubuntu users who want to buy this device.
Looking at the list of nVidia Geforce packages they all say "NVIDIA graphics driver kernel module for GeForce 6xxx and newer GPUs".. Does this means the installer will install the correct driver for y GT 9500 or do I keep flipping the pages until I find a 9xxx? ..also would the "nvidia-gfxG02-kmp-desktop" be the correct one to select for my system?
I have Ubuntu 9.04, and a HP laserjet 1018 printer.

I am trying to install some drivers for either a radeon or an nvidia graphics card. I have some drivers for the nvidia but after getting the installation script to run it suggests that I need to turn of 'X' I understand this to be the graphical interface for the desktop.
I have Ubuntu installed on a fairly old system but these graphics cards work fine in, dare I say it, Windows.

I installed Scientific Linux just for fun, but I find the repositories much too lacking. So, order to tackel that problem, I decided to try to install the fedora-release-14 package. Truns out, sl-release is blocking my success because sl-release obsoletes fedora-release. Then I tried the Rawhide one and it is still obsoleted. How do I add this Fedora Base repositories to Scientific Linux?
When turn off the computer he is half-second off, and then immediately the same turn himself again. Such problems with Lenny, OpenSolaris 2009.06, Windows and Ubuntu 9.04 was not. Noticed on Debian 6.0, Ubuntu 10.04 and above, OpenSUSE 11.4. And only on my computer. How do I fix this?
I am using Debian 7.8.0 (64-bit). I don't know what desktop environment I am using but it is the one that gets installed by default.
I have installed numlockx. Works fine in terms of turning Num Lock on automatically before the login screen. However, once logged in, Num Lock is automatically turned off. Is there a setting in Debian that I am missing so that Num Lock stays on all the time?
PS: Yes, I've turned on the Num Lock option in the BIOS!
I'm using fedora 11 and find that sometimes the wireless just turn off by itself. The wifi LED goes OFF and Network Device Control->wlan0 becomes inactive. It usually happens when I open for a long time ( 24 hr ?) I try turning off the wireless and turning on.
So last night suddenly my computer started running really slow. Like it would take a couple of minutes for a window to open. I tried to start System Monitor to see what was going on, but couldn't get it to launch. At first I thought something had grabbed the CPU, but eventually I discovered that something was writing a massive amount to the hard disk. The intensive disk activity continued for about 20 minutes as I watched nervously. Just as the disk activity suddenly stopped ABRT popped up a message that disappeared to fast to read fully, but it said something about a file that was too large.
This morning I discovered that about 9 GB of my hard disk had been used up. Using "find -size +1G" I found an 8.6 GB file in /var/spool/abrt /ccpp-1291706342-2244/ called "coredump."I don't know what a coredump is or how to look inside the file to see what might have caused its creation. But I do know that ABRT has not said a word about the incident.
I'm running Suse 11.3 with KDE4. While typing thismorning I inadvertently somehow disabled the keyboard (the mouse worked fine).I discovered that the keyboard worked on bootand I could log into my account (or other accounts)with the keyboard, but ONLY within my account wasthe keyboard dead. Rebooting the computer did NOTcure the problemI finally cured it by logging in as root, and renamingthe .kde4 directory in my home directory as .kde4xand then logging back in as myself. But (a) what did I do and how did I do it and (b) isthere a cleaner way to undo this should I do it again?
I want to turn off ASLR on my own PC. But each time I type "sudo echo 0 > /proc/sys/kernel/randomize_va_space", the system shows that Permission denied". How can I make it work? By the way, my OS kernel is 2.6.30.
With 9.04UNR it was possible to turn off the touchpad in the mouse control but it doesn't appear to be there in in 10.04. Is that still possible with 10.04? If so, where do I look for it?
When I mistype a name of an executable program in terminal, ubuntu tries to search for similar programs in packages and then suggests names. This takes time, slowing down work and entirely useless for me. How to turn this feature off?
I personally can't even find a reason for implementing this feature and rather making it turned on by default. If someone needs a tool, he/she can search through packages.
I don't remember when it started, my ubuntu hang when trying to shut down.I tried every possible way to shut down, by command, poweroff, reboot, halt and In verbose mode the last message is: Code: init: rc main process ((process id e.g. "26350")) killed by TERM single and only way I have, to turn off is "Alt + Ctrl + delete"... and when I press them this message appear for a while then restart.
my laptop is an Acer5920G with an NVIDIA GeForce8600m GS video card. I am running Lucid Lynx on it. My problem is that I don't know how to turn the screen backlighting on - my screen seems to be on energy saving mode, i.e. quite dark. I somehow managed to turn the backlight back on the other day, but I have no idea how - and it went back to non-backlit mode a few days later. What should I do?
Wi-fi adapter is switched-off only in Windows or BIOS, and there is nothing built-in NetworkManager not able to do, put the different eee applets - not a solution either. It is worth Netbook Remix 10.10, asus eee 1001ha. All other shortcuts work fine (sorry for my english)
I use Ubuntu live and wanted to run the session with ACPI turned off So at boot-time using F6 I selected ACPI=off However, pstree -p shows, on line 2,: acpid(1817) So how do i really turn ACPI off?
When I boot it takes about 5 seconds for the firewire device (fw0) to load. I don't use firewire and I would like to disable it to help improve my boot time. My BIOS doesn't have an option to turn it off. Is there a way I can turn it off in Ubuntu?
Is there a GUI way of turning off and on the Screenlock? I saw a posting that said to run a command, but then how do I turn on screenlock again? Is there a GUI way with a simple switch, turn on/turn off?
How to turn off, that Ubuntu ask for password after a while? For example, I go away from the computer for 20 minutes, then I come back, but it asks for my password. How to turn it off?
I just installed ubuntu studio and it looks better than ever. I have an ice1712 soundcard and I have NEVER had it work on ANY linux distribution that used pulseaudio (I'm guessing that this problem has been around for at least two years) so I proceeded with my usual way of fixing things which is to just get rid of pulseaudio. Well it worked like a charm, uninstall pulseaudio, reboot and there's my sound. Here is my problem, I went to >system >preferences >sound to turn of the system sounds. I get a message, "waiting for sound system to respond" Does anyone know how I can make these sounds go away. I'm happy to try anything.
