OpenSUSE :: How To Turn Off Keyboard

I'm running Suse 11.3 with KDE4. While typing thismorning I inadvertently somehow disabled the keyboard (the mouse worked fine).I discovered that the keyboard worked on bootand I could log into my account (or other accounts)with the keyboard, but ONLY within my account wasthe keyboard dead. Rebooting the computer did NOTcure the problemI finally cured it by logging in as root, and renamingthe .kde4 directory in my home directory as .kde4xand then logging back in as myself.But (a) what did I do and how did I do it and (b) isthere a cleaner way to undo this should I do it again?

I'm completely new to openSUSE and when I installed it, my wireless card isn't apparently found. The light on the keyboard doesn't turn on signaling there is a wireless card. I should have also said I'm using the KDE thing, not the GNOME.

I have a Saitek Eclipse Keyboard (illuminated keys) and a Logitech MX518 optical mouse. They are both USB.
When I shut down my computer from Windows XP, both the illumination on the keyboard and the optical beam on the mouse turn off. With Ubuntu, both stay on. How do I get them to work correctly?
BTW, I noticed how the spell check on this site recognizes 'Ubuntu' but not 'ubuntu';

I just build a couple production SLES 11 machines and I'm using an ssh client to connect. However the ssh client forces me to use keyboard interactive login. How can I turn this off so I can use the normal username / password?

I have Ubuntu 9.04, and a HP laserjet 1018 printer.
I install the printer using:
And when it ask me about plugin I give the path to it. (the 3.9.2 version of the plugin, because Ubuntu 9.04 has the 3.9.2 version of hplip)
well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?

I accidentally turned off hotkeys (so now print screen button won't work) so I turned the service back on (in "configure desktop") by hitting "start" but the "print screen" button still won't work.

I had installed SUSE KDE and then installed Gnome too. I had chosen Suse as distro that has incredible KDE performance, however Gnome is great too. I hoped old oversimplistic gnome with disgusting theme, but it was great and fast. Then I had run compiz. I want compiz only on the gnome, on KDE I want Kwin. I could override compiz with

My screen resolution is only 640x480 after I installed the nVidia driver by authority method of 1-click install.
And then I run nvidia-xconfig,/etc/X11/xorg.conf was built.Restart my PC.
I selected the default mode to run opensuse.My screen was black.
So I select the failsafe mode and remove the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
I try to copy my ubuntu 10.3 /etc/X11/xorg.conf,but I failed,the screen was black when booting default mode.
Now my LCD resolution is so low.
Graphics card:nVidia Geforce 5200
Monitor:19 inch widescreen LCD
And I can keep the best LCD resolution 1440x900@60Hz in the Windows XP successfully.

I've read some of the older threads on the subject, and when I OK'd kdewallet always, I used the same password for it that I always use. But kdewallet will not allow me to get into setting up a wireless WPA setup or anything else.
I've looked for it i.e., whereis kdewallet or whereis kdewalletmanager to no avail both as su and user. How to get back to the original setup screen for kdewallet so I can turn it off?

I have been tearing at my hair on how to get rid of the dashes that are on every window. For instance dolphin has this on File Edit View etc, and it allows you to navigate trough the menus using the alt f (for file) alt e (for edit), but how do you turn this feature off?

My bluetooth seems to be activated in the system tray when I start the computer, can I disable this?.I do not want my computer to be visible to other computers if you know what I mean.Is it still safe even if the icon shows, Iam a little afraid someone might be able to hack the system this way? If itś still safe having it this way I dont really need to turn it of guess i�m a litlle paranoid because i never use bluetooth

When I first set up my computer I had it set to auto log me in (no lectures necessary. I know the risks and I'm not root!). My son needed to do some video editing so I set him up w/an account and turned off the autologin feature. I'm trying to turn it back on now, but it won't. I've gone into Configure Desktop, Advanced tab, Login Manager, entered the requisite root password, and clicked on the Convenience tab. Enable Auto-Login is checked, and my account is selected as the user. However when I power up the machine it always presents the login screen. I've also tried enabling the password-less login but that didn't make a difference.

After upgrading to 11.3, from 11.2, I apparently have only one nagging problem: the numpad doesn't work. After doing some research I found the problem is obviously that mouse keys is on; shift-numlock fixed it. But, I can't find any place in YaST or KDE System Settings to change that. Where did it go?
I did look in the xorg.conf.d folder and checked all the files there, but no luck.
So where do I find this setting?

By using this tutorial I've create PenDrive USB with LiveCD. I would like to modify it a bit. Unfortunately when I'm mounting it I receive fallowing message:

this problem is a well known one as far as I have read, but the solution is yet to come.I formatted and installed OpenSuse 11.3 KDE as the only OS on a PC with 768 RAM, two Hard Disks (6+8 GB), mobo Abit BE6, processor Celeron Coppermine 1100Mhz (with slotket adapter), video card Matrox G400+, Sound Blaster Live! Value.HD 1 is set root and ext4 + 1 GB swap, HD2 is /home ext3.The live OpenSuse CD worked fine, shutdown turns off the power, while the installed one won't. I formatted twice, and the problem persist. Reboot works fine.At shutdown, the hard disks are turned off while the screen and power are still on, so I have to press the power button to turn off completely.
Yesterday I wasted all the day with this problem without solving it, I've read many threads but no solution worked. That PC obviously worked fine with both Windows 98 and XP.Those problems are in the "out of the box" installation, without any setting altered.I've tried disabling ACPI, PM control by APM, and power management features in the bios (latest 2001's Award bios for this old mobo).I've set alternatively pci=noacpi, nosmp, apm=power-off, acpi=force in GRUB options. I've updated the distro. I've set value poweroff for HALT in etc/sysconfig. Nothing changed.I've also tried macumba and ancient celtic cerimonies, yet they didn't work.Is it possible to solve this problem or it's a known unsolved bug? unning 11.2 on laptop used as stationary desktop. Normally, the backlight turns off after several minutes of inactivity from keyboard/mouse. However, once video played using VLC, the screen simply blanks while backlight stays on, until system restart. Using Totem does not have this effect, but I like VLC.

I have had a notebook with an ethernet plugged in cable before, sent a signal through the cable by resetting my router, and it switched my notebook on from cold. My question is, is there a way of doing this using a remote desktop client. Ideally, I would like a machine switched off at home running suse linux/windows, then have a client computer sent the remote request, this in turn activates the machine, which boots and then gives the rmote client control.

I have recently performed a clean install and replaced OpenSuSE 11.0 with 11.1. Most things seem to be working fine, but the sound is extremely loud. None of the volume controls in the mixer seem to have any effect on it at all, but if I mute the PCM channel it mutes the speakers. None of the other mute buttons effect anything, and not even the PCM channel volume has any effect.
The only volume control that seems to work at all is inside whatever program is playing the sound, such as kaffeine or amarok, but even then I have to have it set to around 5% to prevent blowing my eardrums.
The soundcard is a VIA 8237 integrated sound card for a Biostar iDEQ small form factor, and it worked fine in OpenSuSE 11.0 and 10.3.

Ever since I installed openSuse 11.2, my monitor wont turn off after I shutdown my computer.
The monitor light changes to orange, like its turning itself off. But then the light changes to green and the message "no signal detected" comes on - then the light turns orange. This cycle repeats untill I manually hit the power button to turn it off.
I booted to windows 7 (dual boot), shutdown, but it is still happening!
Like I said, this started happening immediately after I installed openSuse.

Since 11.2 bluetooth is defaulted to always turned on during boot. Is there any way to have bluetooth off as default during boot? I don't want it completely disabled as I sometimes require it but I'd prefer if the BT radio was in the off state as default.Really the bluetooth state should be persistent across boots - i.e. remember the last state.

SuSE 11.4 is a wonderful release, but two chronic problems remain. The most serious is the inability to get Gnome to recognize an intel driver parameter specification in xorg.conf or 50-screen.conf with a predetermined, working screen specification. With the latest update that includes: [url]
Gnome will boot up in a strange resolution with a display of a pink screen and fragments of icons split and duplicated over the display. Teasing open the terminal parameter screen, terminal parameters (resolution, horizontal rate) appear to be correct. The terminal type is 'undefined', whether the screen is operating correctly or not, and any attempt to set defaults are refused. Perhaps the intel driver has not been selected by the operating system. Is there a way to specify a default screen driver?
This has been a chronic problem, now aggravated with the latest update to the point where the computer is now rendered inoperative.
Ironically, the other problem, that of the difficulty in downloading certain update files also remains. Had an elaborate update workaround procedure not been followed, the system would still be usable.
