I installed Scientific Linux just for fun, but I find the repositories much too lacking. So, order to tackel that problem, I decided to try to install the fedora-release-14 package. Truns out, sl-release is blocking my success because sl-release obsoletes fedora-release. Then I tried the Rawhide one and it is still obsoleted. How do I add this Fedora Base repositories to Scientific Linux?

well I install the printer, everything works perfectly.....but, when I turn off the PC, and turn it on again, the printer does NOT work!, I send work for being printed but mothing happens , Ubuntu tells me that the job was printed but ... no case, my printer does not print it.
I have to install it again since cero. what can I don to stop install it every time I turn off the computer ?
I'm using fedora 11 and find that sometimes the wireless just turn off by itself. The wifi LED goes OFF and Network Device Control->wlan0 becomes inactive. It usually happens when I open for a long time ( 24 hr ?) I try turning off the wireless and turning on.

View 14 Replies View RelatedSo last night suddenly my computer started running really slow. Like it would take a couple of minutes for a window to open. I tried to start System Monitor to see what was going on, but couldn't get it to launch. At first I thought something had grabbed the CPU, but eventually I discovered that something was writing a massive amount to the hard disk. The intensive disk activity continued for about 20 minutes as I watched nervously. Just as the disk activity suddenly stopped ABRT popped up a message that disappeared to fast to read fully, but it said something about a file that was too large.
This morning I discovered that about 9 GB of my hard disk had been used up. Using "find -size +1G" I found an 8.6 GB file in /var/spool/abrt /ccpp-1291706342-2244/ called "coredump."I don't know what a coredump is or how to look inside the file to see what might have caused its creation. But I do know that ABRT has not said a word about the incident.

My computer which uses F15, a Lenovo B560 laptop, have a BCM4313 and the apparent reason is that after that I installed the broadcom-wl and run "su -c 'modprobe wl'" so did I get the response "FATAL: Driver not found". However, the earlier non-existing wireless button in the network manager appeard after the installation, id est the broadcom-wl must have been in plase.

and i also tried sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop but it just says command not found. my gdm is in the usr/sbin directory idk if that has to be changed or not but i'm really new to this and I am completely lost.

I type that each time before I launch maya. If I don't it wont start.
Not sure why. Essentially it makes it so I need to be su to run maya.
If I was setting up the workstation to be used by others as well how would I disable SELinux just for starting Maya but nothing else? Or how to do I tell SELinux maya is ok for regular users to run?
I used to have it set up where fedora remembered startup programs, I turned the feature off, and it continues to remember everything?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from FC10 to FC11 (32-bit) on an old Dell laptop. I set my power management settings (in Gnome) to turn the monitor off after some idle period but always leave the computer running and the hard drives powered. I also set my screen saver to a blank screen. I noticed that the screen saver does come on (turning the screen black), but the monitor back lighting never goes off. I tried different idle times for the power management settings (I usually set it to 1 min, but some other posts implied that 11 mins might work). I should also mention that this is after I've logged into a user account, not sitting at the login screen.
I didn't have this problem in FC10 (the monitor would actually turn off) so I figured it was a bug in FC11, but I can't seem to find a thread addressing this issue. I've found some what similar threads, but none mentioning this particular problem.
I have a problem with my Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 3945ABG, The laptop doesn't have a hardware "turn-on" button for Wireless device, normal "windows shortcut" aren't also working. I couldn't turn it on using Network Configuration, it keeps giving me this message:

Is there a way to turn a laptop, or any PC with a wifi network card, into a wifi range extender? Suppose I have the usual wifi router, but unfortunately the signal doesn't cover the whole house; a solution is a range extender, but I thought: if I have a laptop, placed in the same room where I would put that range extender, can't I use THAT as a range extender too? View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently trying to turn off ordered data mode for ext3 filesystem. I want to shred some files and apparently this won't work with journaling on.
I can't seem to find any good explanations of what exactly "ordered data" means in terms of data recovery/security...or at least none that are written in simple n00b terms. It is all written in terms of disk crashes and whether old data will mix in with the new. It doesn't say whether one's cousin will be able to poke around and find some thought-it-was-deleted porno if he's on the computer.
Can someone step me through the process of turning this off using tune2fs? (if that is the best way to do it!) Do I have to revert to ext2? Can I turn it back on later? Will I lose data (for example, does the drive need to be reformated?) once this change is made? And how does one find, read, and delete/shred the journal itself? Is "ordered data" even a real problem for data recovery?
You will not believe that. Such crazzy thing! When I first press the Shift key (in KDE session), the Numbers Lock function (LED) turn off. Then I have to press NumLock key twice to turn it on. First press has no effect. Second turn it on.
And another strange thing. I can disable this strange efect, if I manually turn NumLock off an then on.
I thing, I will rename Fedora to Pandora. Because there is more that little strange things. About 12 I counted. But there is no time and place to write all 12. Maybe another day.

It is a remote computer ,all I can do is to send cron job to it ,no SSH. So commands is the best way,but please do not interrupt the flash ?
