View 2 Repliesi been pretty busy lately and haven't really been keeping up with gaming. i thought it would be fun to play an online game but i refuse to resort to downloading windows haha, plus i would have to set up grub to load both operating systems which i really don't feel like messing with. so whats a fun online game that works in wine?
i have 10.04 Linus with the latest wine install.
hardware requirements is not an issue.
This game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.

When it reaches max, the flash game will be 'flashing' and lag. I use latest stable google chrome and flash player. Any idea how to fix this? I encounter no problem when playing at Windows.

I have this game for the pc called international football 2000. Its a bit old I know, but I want to see if it will work on my computer. I am still running on the 8.04 ubuntu and will be upgrading soon hopefully. Will a game this old and also made by microsoft work for the ubuntu system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedDo you know any game engines or game studios that can make adventure games, for instance in the style of Myst (1st person) or in the style of old Sierra games (3rd person), like King's Quest, Space Quest, etc.?I've seen AGI Studio, but it is too old, I'd like to use more modern graphics (although there is no need for 3D).

I'm trying to figure out what is the problem. I used Ubuntu 8.10 in the past and never encounter a problem like this. It keep freezing the computer 3 to 5 times a day. I check varies of sys.log, kernel.log, any kind of log you could think of and they not showing any reason why it froze. This is the only last thing it wrote because it froze
Code:
Jan 29 12:57:58 sean-desktop wpa_supplicant[936]: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS
Jan 29 12:59:58 sean-desktop wpa_supplicant[936]: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS
Jan 29 13:01:58 sean-desktop wpa_supplicant[936]: CTRL-EVENT-SCAN-RESULTS
This is always what it ended up with every time it froze. I check the log and it usually on that message. and I switched back to the previous kernel and assumed it the newest kernel causing problem. I had this problem before in my Ubuntu 8.10, so i switched to the previous kernel and the problem is solved. So on my ubuntu 9.10, I switched to the previous kernel, it still have the same result. I'm running out of ideas. I been thinking about switching to 8.10. The reason why I like 9.10 because of ext4 support
Can any one give me the links of web sites from where I can freely download game for Linux.

I personally use System Rescue CD, but I need something to recommend to newbies with gui menus to mount local hard drives and such. It doesn't need to have much other than that. I've been out of the loop for a while and don't know what is currently available and good.

Is there any good paint program on Linux, besides kolourpaint which is KDE and thus brings an awful lot of baggage into non-KDE systems?
(This is mainly with my lubuntu-on-USB in mind. The 300MB for kolourpaint and all its dependencies is not acceptable when there's only 4GB for the whole OS)
I can't stand mtPaint, it behaves very unlike most applications and I'm unable to figure how to do even simple tasks like colour picking or resizing a selection. GIMP is good but it's complex and overkill for simple tasks. Anything else?
I have an older laptop (Dell Inspiron 4100) on which I have installed a minimal Slackware system, and have just managed to get wireless working by using a Linksys Wireless-G card (WPC54GS) and installing the b43 packages from the SlackBuilds site.
Unfortunately, I am experiencing system freezes ... and if my Google searches are correct, these are related to the firmware driver (b43 stuff).
I wonder if anyone can recommend a good wireless card that works with Slackware out of the box ?
I need to build a new computer, and I'm considering buying an "AMD-oriented" motherboard, that comes with an integrated ATI Radeon GPU.But, being a big Free Software enthusiast, that likes to have completely free drivers for everything, and knowing that the "open source" Radeon driver, for ATI/AMD GPUs, uses a non-free firmware, I'm reluctant about this... Above all, because I don't know what kind of security risk I'm taking, when using a proprietary firmware.
And, having read what was recently reported about the security of proprietary firmwares, in general,URL... if the firmware component of graphics cards drivers poses any security threat?(I mean, can the firmware part of a graphics cards driver be used to do anything more than executing instructions to display graphics?)
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. I have an Apache web server running that I can access at 192.168.1.102 ("It works! This is the default web page for this server. ...").
Are there any security risks in leaving this running? Is the web server available to anyone outside my network?
I have received an email with a .csv attachment from a bank, and need to know how to view the attachment without risk. Using View>Message Source I see a large solid block of random upper and lower case characters, whereas I would expect to see some readable text mixed in. The email subject and the attachment name both contain data specific to me, but the text of the email consists largely of disclaimers with no mention of my name or any clue as to the nature of the attachment. I am using Thunderbird as my email client.
