Jul 18, 2010I have used a patched Cairo in 11.2 from Packman and the fonts were excellent. Now I upgraded to 11.3 and installed freetype from subpixel repo. While I have good fonts in Qt now, in Gnome still they are bad. There is no patched Cairo in Packman for 11.3 Installing the patched Cairo for 11.2 from Packman and from Ubuntu-patch project did not help

Feb 26, 2011I'm a black screen guy, so i dont give to much to appearance, i always do a minimal debian install and build from this with openbox...but this time i get to test xfce and damn indeed has good looking, i just went to xfce4-settings-manager put as full and rgb and voila...good looking. Patched libcairo and better still.Back to Openbox i cant achieve the same result..no matter what i do, tried fonts.conf but in xfce just looks better....Any tut to appearance in Openbox.....what fonts do you install.

Jan 5, 2011I have just installed fedora 14 for 2 weeks. After installing the Tetom plugin I can't download video and Mp3 files from my desired sites. When I enter to those sites a Plug-in (which I'm not sure that is it related to Tetom or not) starts and tries to play that video or MP3. But before installing that pliging I didn't have this problem and when I press on download link, It opened a pop-up window and asked for downloading and saving location. However I unistalled that pluging but my problem doesn't solve. I attached two pictures. The first picture shows a page which when I'm going to download a movei it goes to a "Code Page" and I can not download !! and the second one shows when I'm trying to download a Mp3 file. As you can see in the second picture there is a new Icon at the left hand of Greasemonkey Icon which i think problem is with that one !

CentOS 5 :: Cannot Download DVD ISO's From Available Sites
May 10, 2011I originally tried using a torrent download to try and get a DVD ISO image. When I tried to copy the image to a DVD, my software said something about the file not being supported and the file vanished from the download location.
So now I have tried looking for just an ISO file instead of a torrent file and when I try to download it my browser just hangs, I get the "Save" or "Open" option and choose "Save", nothing happens. The option window blanks out.
So how do I download a DVD ISO image for CentOS 5?

Have only been using Mint 11 for 3 days after 7 years with windows and the usual safety nets there were the https headings and firewalls blocking stuff but how do you know something is safe in Linux ?

OpenSUSE :: Good Download Manager And Accelerator?
May 10, 2011Excuse me for bringing back this kind of subject already discussed by other users, but I need it. I have slow internet connection so I need a download manager that is able to accelerate downloads and resume them after they are paused or interrupted by provider disconnection. I tried kget but it's very slow. After some minutes downloads hadn't even started. I found that downthemall and prozgui got a more suitable speed but I have had problems with latter versions of both.
In downthemall almost at all downloads that amount to a size of several Mb's the speed start to slow down when it reaches from 90% to 99% completed until 0kb/s and download pauses, needing manual resuming. But I can stay watching downloads to see when they'll stop, mainly if they are large. Prozgui worked fine in my opensuse 11.3 install but now on 11.4 some downloads seem to end up correctly but when I use them some files are corrupted.

May 23, 2010This is a bit of an odd problem that's been happening to me recently. My home folder is a version of Fedora old, I've been using the same one between Fedora 11 and 12 (which I'm now using).
When booting up, I notice that my system fonts are not the ones I have manually set. They're the ugly version, whatever exact font it is. It's only when I select System->Appearances from the menu that the system seems to detect my seletions to use Liberation fonts in all areas, and then everything instantly switches to the more visually pleasing Liberation fonts. This is a strange bug, I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or can point me in the right direction?

Feb 9, 2011In the past week or so I've noticed some weird network behaviour. I find accessing some sites such as Amazon, Paypal, and Bigstockphoto really slow. Sometimes the page will not load at all. Other sites are fine. The problem sites are not a problem for others on my LAN at home. When I try to open the problem sites, I can see in Firestarter blocked connections coming from 2.1(8/9).xxx.xxx on various ports such as 36007. This only happens for the problem sites. I attached a typical output from firestarter.
This happens with Firfeox or Chrome. Using Ubuntu 10.10
Server :: Manage Files And Sites With Debian System
Feb 1, 2011I have a linux server with debian system. I want to put in my debian server a site. I installed apache php mysql and phpmyadmim. I really thought that was more difficult for me to put my site database. But now i can load on server my database with phpmyadmin after a very simply installation. I could not believe. I'm studying how make ftp work (apt-get site-ftp?) and waiting from my host directadmin installed. But i try to manage linux console and was very exciting for a newbiest like me!
Now I can write text on my site server with echo etc,etc, I have a database, but I have not site files. While I was studying tutorial to make apache work, I frequently read the directory /var/www and my debian console confirm that is an existing directory. How can use this directory?
Any listing debian linux server commands to:
copy, delete, paste from my pc desktop a file TO folder /var/www ?
It is possible without ftp? Another question. Which bad errors can make a newbie like me configuring apache with linux? I ask this because I read all where that I could not manage a server system if I'm not a sysadmin, but I have only to put in a site... what the real risk?
