General :: How To Download With Wget Without Following Links With Parameters
Jun 29, 2010I'm trying to download two sites for inclusion on a CD:URL...The problem I'm having is that these are both wikis. So when downloading with e.g.:wget -r -k -np -nv -R jpg,jpeg, gif,png, tif URL..Does somebody know a way to get around this?

Jun 18, 2011I'm trying to download firefox or chrome for windows so that I can use it in wine. Trouble is when I try to dowload a windows version of either I get spoonfed the download link for the linux version only, which I obviously already have. I dont mind dowloading it from somewhere else if I have to, but dowloading it from the developers is usually the best option.Why are these, and probably other, websites spoonfeeding us, and with no choice but to be spoonfed? As a computer user it's patronizing, but as a linux user its just insulting.

Apr 30, 2011My laptop has Ubuntu as a dual boot. Many times I want to copy files from one folder to another. But I run into permissions problems.
For example, I downloaded a program that required me to put a rules file in /etc/udev/rules.d But when I tried to do that, I got an error: "permission denied"
Is there any way to change permissions on folders so that I can freely copy them from one folder to another? That would make life a lot easier.
Slackware :: After Rebooting The Game Works, But On Ending The Game Several Notification Boxes Remain?
Jun 1, 2010This game is Java based. After rebooting the game works, but on ending the game several notification boxes remain. If these boxes are not closed in the reverse order that the game opened them, it is no longer possible to close them. Only by killing the Java processes can these notifications be made to close. Also after playing the game, even if all these notifications are closed it is many times necessary to kill the Java process(es) in order to get the game to load again at a later time. I am currently using Slackware 1.30, but a similar problem has existed in several of the past releases.

Nov 25, 2010I dual boot windows and ubuntu, and fount it very nice. But when i run flash game at my chrome, i can see the CPU usage increase a lot. When it reaches max, the flash game will be 'flashing' and lag. I use latest stable google chrome and flash player. Any idea how to fix this? I encounter no problem when playing at Windows.

I'm trying to figure out what is the problem. I used Ubuntu 8.10 in the past and never encounter a problem like this. It keep freezing the computer 3 to 5 times a day. I check varies of sys.log, kernel.log, any kind of log you could think of and they not showing any reason why it froze. This is the only last thing it wrote because it froze

This is always what it ended up with every time it froze. I check the log and it usually on that message. and I switched back to the previous kernel and assumed it the newest kernel causing problem. I had this problem before in my Ubuntu 8.10, so i switched to the previous kernel and the problem is solved. So on my ubuntu 9.10, I switched to the previous kernel, it still have the same result. I'm running out of ideas. I been thinking about switching to 8.10. The reason why I like 9.10 because of ext4 support

Jul 26, 2010I am running Linux from a DVD, not installed. I am not good with installing software, but since the DVD cannot be corrupted, I am content to operate this way. Lately, I have been having problems that previously did not occur. When I try to click on the checkbox to get rid of emails, it doesn't register in most cases, or when it does, I am clicking multiple times so it registers twice, meaning it is unchecked again. Even more frustrating is some issues that are affecting my ability to update my business. I am trying to modify spreadsheets (text not calculations).
Whenever I try to click & drag to select something to change, it keeps jumping around to select only some of what I want, something else or some combination of the 2. When I try to copy and paste several fields from 1 column to another, everything from the several fields in the source column ends up together in the last field in the target column. I am also trying to download some images from a website. There is a single column of links to the images. I have to click on the link to get to the image in order to copy it, then back out to continue looking for more links to do the same.
My computer keeps jumping back 2 steps, then forward 2 steps, and sometimes I lose my place in that list. I could deal with it if it were a small number of links, but this is a list of probably close to 20,000 links. Again, i am operating off of a live DVD so this should not be corruptible, but this has just started happening, and has been an issue the last several sessions.

I need to find a tutorial with step by step to follow to download LINUX to another computer, burn it to a cd(s), and then use those to load my new HDD in my laptop. Dec 6, 2010At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.
Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

And enter my credentials when Cisco redirects to the login page.
Literally, the process is

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.
Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.
My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;
1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and
2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?
