Since installing 11.3 I've noticed that with certain Workspace themes the plasmmoids and panel have options missing: The theme in the screenshot is "Elegance" others have the same problem; "Oxyglass", "Heron" & "Aya". The panel has the resizing sliders missing. These were working ok in 11.2.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just noticed that under my panel sub menu, there are no entries after I upgraded to 4.5 from 4.4.4. Also, the embedded terminal option seems to be gone, it now only fires off an external Konsole. I really used that feature a lot and it was very handy.

I went to package manager and installed it but still doesn't work. Themes to be installed, either overglossed or sickness-black. environment ubuntu 10.04.

today I've compiled and installed gtk+-2.24.4 (needed by the new GIMP), and shortly after GTK apps look like crap. The theme list is empty except for "Raleigh", which I presume is default.
What can be the cause and what config files should I look into to fix it?

When you go to System/Preferences/Appearance/ and the Appearance Preferences window displays the graphical representations of the themes, on most of them the gnome image-missing.png is displayed where the window menu icon (far-left on the titlebar) should be displayed. I never had this happen with Intrepid, but I do have this situation now on Jaunty. It's not just with new or added themes, it's the system's default installed themes as well. If you search around the net you'll see that this is a pretty common problem. Is a .png getting deleted, or is it something else in the process that is 'broken'?
Many of my apps display their proper menu window icons (like nautilus, ff3, etc.) - but others do not. I assume the ones that don't are trying to use a system or default icon rather than their own and that it is missing?Here are two screenshots I grabbed off of google to show you the difference.Missing...Not missing.
I have just reinstalled 10.10. I used the alternate version since I had to add a fake raid Windows install. Ubuntu is on a OCZ SSD (very nice )
Install went fine. Update went fine (a bit over 300MB of updates) and everything looked as it should.
Then I installed the restricted Nvidia drivers for my GTX275 card and then gnome suddenly looks like the attached screenshot. I have tried to change theme and the colour of the top bar changes but that is that. No icon changes etc.
I have updated to the latest 270.18 drivers but the problem is still the same.
On my laptop, I have stable installed. The original install was about two years ago, and I've just been keeping up with all of the stable updates. It is now an up to date Lenny. Over the months and years I have added several new icon themes to Gnome. I have noticed over time that several of the icon themes' icons have turned up missing. As you can see, icon themes Amaranth, Crux and Dropline Etiquette are missing their respective theme icons. The icon themes work, when selected, but the icon theme icon in the "Customize Theme" window never appears. Several of the other icon themes are the same. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the icon theme packs, but that doesn't fix it. I also have a desktop system of Debian stable with some of the same icon themes as on the laptop, but it does not have this problem. However, it is a much newer installation.
I installed 10.4 netbook, but it doesn't have the same panel as previous versions. I like things like multiple desk tops, main menu, and placing the clock in the center, but I cannot find anyway to adjust this stuff. Is there a solution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTitle pretty much says it. As you can see from my screenshot, my effects list is far shorter than it's supposed to be, a quarter the size of what I had on my hardy desktop. The main effects that are driving me insane not having are 3D windows, e.g. windows hover above the desktop cube in order of use, and water sloshing around in the cube as I rotate it. Are these now options under an effect? I couldn't find them anywhere. Running 32 bit lucid on a laptop with a good graphics card.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to make Gnome display the date in a better format. I tried using gconf-editor as described in the thread at [URL], but I also found that apps > panel> default_setup > applets > clock had no prefs item.
Unfortunately, the solution which worked for quixote (stop running as root) didn't help me as I was running as the only account I've set up on the system, and all of the files in ~/.gconf are owned by that user.
Does anyone know what else could cause options to vanish like that? I'm running Gnome 2.32.0.

screen0 is fine, screen1 has no window buttons so once a window is open, I can't close it, cant move them, cant do a lot with them
Ok under the power control icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen I have the options to hibernate and sleep, but I do not have shut down, or log off. If I control-alt-delete I have shut down, hibernate, suspend and restart. Also I am currently using 11.04 on an HP Dv6 laptop. I previously installed Ubuntu 11.04 on here and it worked perfectly. To address yet another interesting "bump" I installed this and on my launcher I have an applet to "Install RELEASE" but, I have the latest installation of 11.04 on here.

Since this all the options from the network/connection part of my taskbar have been removed.I have run the OS from a boot disk and the same problem occurs. I have updated and re-added the mobile broadband but still nothing appears and as yet i have been unable to connect to the internet again since the powercut.am still learning everything (very slowly) so i apologise if this has been previously solved but i can't seem to find it on the forums.

How about floating windows above desktop cube? Dodge? In which upon selecting a window, the non-selected windows move around it to move it to the front.I also notice that many window updates are very poor. For example, in the compiz settings manager when I switch tabs, the window does not actually update unless I move it. I click on a tab and it looks just like the previous tab. If I move the mouse around, it will update the wind in blocks under the mouse, but not the whole window.And, it would appear that the standard compiz is still available from my desktop settings in KDE. Could I have failed to remove the original compiz?
Using LTS 10.04. How do I change my boot splash and login screen? (in the past I would). It was just system->admin->login screen but all the options are missing! See attached screen shots.

Ubuntu changed something and I don't what it is (I cant even figure what to search for)
- The first screen is my desktop system->admin->login screen
- The 2nd is what should be there. system->admin->login screen
I think the title says it all. I want a quick way to crop images whilst retaining exif data (rules out shotwell) so when I upgraded lucid to natty (via MM) I kept f-spot. However when I click the 'edit image' button in eye of gnome f-spot still opens but it has no 'edit' or 'metadata' options in the sidepane so I can't do a quick crop anymore. Why they are missing or how to put them back?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been experiencing a strange problem with Plasma locking up. Running system monitor it shows the KDE4 process using 20% CPU time, and Plasma around 10-15%. This seems way too much since on my six year old Laptop the cpu load of both processes is barely noticeable. My Laptop is an old single core 3000+ AMD Athlon 64, while my Desktop has a Quad core Xeon 2.33Ghz chip, so the fact that the KDE4/Plasma system load is many times higher than on the Laptop, indicates something is wrong.
I'm not sure what else to look for troubleshooting wise, any suggestions? *Actually, thinking about it, the KDE4 process is timing out one CPU core, which indicates to me something is really not right.
I've been fooling around with Gnome-Shell for a while now, which fits nicely on my small-screened (12") laptop, but the openSUSE 11.3 version has proven less-than-stable for me. Now I am interested in the Plasma Netbook Workspaces, which looks intriguing... The question is, [ 1 ] to install it (which I can do from Plasma Netbook Workspace - openSUSE, but the documentation is rather sparce), do I need to run MeeGo, or can I take a stock installation of openSUSE?
I don't have much luck installing openSUSE via DVD (or DVD image via USB) so I am thinking of installing via the KDE Live CD and then install the Plasma Netbook Workspace. This is basically how I installed Gnome-Shell (install from the Gnome Live CD, then install Gnome-Shell). Once it is installed, [ 2 ] how do I turn it on? Will it be an option in the login screen? I'll admit, though, I am more of a Gnome guy, but going to Gnome-Shell may be a half-step towards something like this.
I just installed OpenSUSE 11.3 last night and so far today I have had TWO Plasma crashes which leave the taskbar in a black color with stripes.
After the first one I located a post on the Web that said to do the following:
logout
Do CTRL-ALT-F1 (this does not work on my system at all, why?)
login
rm ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma*
CTRL-D to logout
CTRL-ALT-F7
Login
I did that and it did not fix the problem. I messed around with the desktop settings and somehow got the task bar back to gray.
Now during a copy of a large number of files from one disk to another with Dolphin, it crashed AGAIN.
So far 11.3 is proving a massive disappointment compared to the 11.0 I had on up to last night. Things are more complicated and clearly not as stable as KDE 3.5.x.
And I'm switching back to Konqueror as the default file manage because Dolphin appears to be unstable at doing a simple task like copying files without freezing.
I also hate the task notifier which during a copy pops up and covers my NoScript bar in Firefox.
do I have to switch to another distro? I really don't want to do that, but so far OpenSUSE 11.3 is a massive problem.
