Software :: CyrusIMAP: Move Mailbox Subfolders To Another Mailbox, Serverside?
May 26, 2011
(We are running CyrusIMAP v2.3.16 on Slackware 13.1)The Problem:A user deleted a HUGE public Folder (>10000 Messages, >250 Subfolders), and now the Folder is in his "Trash" folder.Besides the obvious "Why did he have the access rights to do so in the first place??" question, I am honestly at a loss as to how the user did it:Trying to copy it back using Thunderbird failed utterly, TB crashes, or copies only a part, or nothing at all... (Tried 3.x on Windows and Linux Clients)So now I'm searching for a way to copy the folder back serverside. But web and manpages seem to offer few help:I don't want to move the folder to another partition, nor do I want to reconstruct or restore any corrupted data...All I want is to copy the folder from "user/USERNAME/Trash/HERE" back to "shared/archive/HERE".

I started to use mailboxes instead of maildirs on my server. My server is with imapd on slackware.I found out that by Thunderbird I just cannot create sub-folders in my imap directory. My users used to manage their mails into hierarchically organized subfolders.

I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only.
For example, I may
# mail user1
To send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status.
I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

without realising I started thunderbird from a root window, I set it up along with rules and about 2 hours finetuning.
I figured out how to get the icon on the top panel, but that is naturally started as my user gsm.
Is there an easy way of migrating the whole mailbox and subfolders form the root install to the gsm user?
Or is it easier to start from scratch?

I need to check my mailboxes for errors. My imapd has permanent errors, it periodically crashes. I think that the problem will be with some errors which was created when I converted my previous maildirs to mailboxes.
It is possible to check the integrity of these mailboxes with some command or script?

I'm setting up the Squirrelmail | impad | sendmail combination and so far everything appears in order but I'm getting a 'mailbox not found' error when I log into Squirrelmail. I've eliminated Squirrelmail by using another imap client (Mozilla Thunderbird) and getting the same error. It seems that the problem is with imapd.I've checked the logs and I can see only the successful login entries. Nothing else:
May 5 10:30:19 altair cyrus/imap[2602]: executed
May 5 10:30:19 altair cyrus/imap[2602]: accepted connection
May 5 10:30:19 altair cyrus/imap[2602]: login: localhost [127.0.0.1] john plaintext User logged in

Got the strange problem with Evolution. I've got two inboxes, and one of them has suddenly emptied - don't know what I did. Also, when I try and send a test message to the emptied inbox, nothing happens, although the message gets through on my gmail account.

EDIT: Change the topic, see post #3
I've been following this guide: http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/
And done the points up to "Advanced mail server" and are trying to test mailing mail@mydomain.com to mail@mydomain.com (yes, the same inbox) using Thunderbird, through my own DNS, from the server.
But I get the following error: The message can not be sent because the connection to SMTP server mydomain.com timed out.
And when I check /var/spool/mail/virtual where the mailboxes are supposed to be stored there are none.
So I'm wondering how I create a mailbox with postfix.
I can add that I am quite a noob at linux but have to do this in a school project.
I'm using ubuntu server 10.04 32bit with GUI (yes I know, I know)

I'm looking into migrating postfix mailboxes and users from an old machine running Fedora5 to a new machine running cenOS. I was wondering, what would be the procedure to migrating over existing postfix mail to the new machine? Is it as simple as copying over /home directories and /etc/passwd etc?

We're using sendmail with ldap routing. We've setup a new mailstore which some of our users are piloting.
We've been asked to configure sendmail to forward a copy of pilot users emails to the new mailstore (Zimbra) as well as the old (Sun Messaging).
I'm not exactly sure how to do this. I've tried modifying aliases to forward to 2 destinations, but ldap routing seems to take precedence before aliases.

Howdy. I'm trying to get mailman up and running. I have CentOS 5 (hiab) and qmail. I did yum install mailman and that went fine, I set up apache and can see the mailman pages via htttp. The issue now is with sending mail, whenever I send emails to the list I get: 511 511 sorry, no mailbox here by that name
So I'm assuming my alias files/.qmail fies are in the wrong spot. The contents of my .qmail are (respective to the -admin, -bounces, -etc)

I'm just getting started with postfix for the first time (using courier pop) and everything is working well. However I can't seem to figure out how to only allow some system users to have mailboxes?
For example I have a few accounts which are FTP only accounts but they still have mailboxes under postfix? Is there any way to tell postfix the accounts that I actually want mailboxes for?
Also on a side note, I notice that mail seems to be stored under the user's home directory. I'm scared they may accidentally delete them.

I have set up evolution with what I believe to be the proper settings.Pop3.live.com for the incoming mail server and smtp.live.com for the outgoing mail server. The problem I have at the moment is this: When trying to receive mail, after entering my password at the prompt,
I get the error message:
Error sending password: -ERR mailbox could not be opened.
I'm reprompted to enter my password and I no longer get the previous error, but instead a new one.Error sending username: -ERR unrecognized command. This error message persists every time I enter my password. I have noted that there are no penalties for entering an incorrect password, so I've posited that the problem is on my end.

i followed this tutorial to the "T", [URL]. I am not able to login to the mailboxes with squirrelmail, it says "connection dropped by imap server" I used the whole address as a login just like it said to do. I can sucessfully authenticate with outlook express but it throws an error that say's [URL], no such file or directory. i can telnet into it remotely but when i type ehlo [URL] it just keeps showing all the 250 lines and wont let me generate a message.
from what i saw on the comments on the tutorial and googling there are many other people with this problem, however i found no solutions. This is fresh work and i have not touched any config files since finishing the tutorial

I am running cyrus 2.1 on OpenSusu 11.0. A couple of days ago I tried to install ispCP and it ending up trash my email. I restored everything in /etc/postfix where ispCP had changed a load of files, but unfortunately that did not correct all of my problems. I have several domains with multiple users, most of which deliver to a few local address.
joe@domain1 delivers to joe
admin@domain1 delivers to joe
fred@domain2 delivers to fred
admin@domain2 delivers to fred
all of the email intended for local user is delivered to a single user (e.g. larry).Email that is redirected to an external user (e.g. mike@linuxquestions.org) works fine. Email to non-existent users fails, as expect. I tried deleting the mail box for one of the users and re-creating it, but the problem continues. I have looked through many HOWTOs, web pages and man-pages, but I cannot find any configuration options that addresses this kind of thing.
