Fedora Installation :: Thunderbird Transfer - Migrating The Whole Mailbox And Subfolders Form The Root Install To The Gsm User?

Feb 9, 2011

without realising I started thunderbird from a root window, I set it up along with rules and about 2 hours finetuning.

I figured out how to get the icon on the top panel, but that is naturally started as my user gsm.

Is there an easy way of migrating the whole mailbox and subfolders form the root install to the gsm user?

Or is it easier to start from scratch?

Software :: CyrusIMAP: Move Mailbox Subfolders To Another Mailbox, Serverside?

May 26, 2011

(We are running CyrusIMAP v2.3.16 on Slackware 13.1)The Problem:A user deleted a HUGE public Folder (>10000 Messages, >250 Subfolders), and now the Folder is in his "Trash" folder.Besides the obvious "Why did he have the access rights to do so in the first place??" question, I am honestly at a loss as to how the user did it:Trying to copy it back using Thunderbird failed utterly, TB crashes, or copies only a part, or nothing at all... (Tried 3.x on Windows and Linux Clients)So now I'm searching for a way to copy the folder back serverside. But web and manpages seem to offer few help:I don't want to move the folder to another partition, nor do I want to reconstruct or restore any corrupted data...All I want is to copy the folder from "user/USERNAME/Trash/HERE" back to "shared/archive/HERE".

Ubuntu Installation :: ThunderBird 3.1.7 Transfer From Win7 To 10.04?

Jan 11, 2011

i would like share what i did when i migrate my ThunderBird 3.1.7 including (extensions, calendar, settings, addressbook) windows 7 to ubuntu 10.04. 1. Archive(7zip) the mail database or the thunderbird folder in the windows 7 which is in the location (C:Users(Ur Username)AppDataRoaming) 2. Install the TB on your linux and open it to create the ****.default folder and the profile.ini in the home/.thunderbird/* Note: althought your windows thunderbird archive backup has the ****.default and profile.ini it doesn't work in my case when i replace or put it the the home/.thunderbird/* directory 3. When you open the TB in the first time it will create *****.default and profile.ini, dont replace or delete it as i said above, what you must do is copy all the files or content in the directory of ****.default in the windows 7 backup archive which is in location (/Thunderbird/Profiles/.default/*) to the home/.thunderbird/ all of it but first remove the content of your ******.dafault and now its almost finish 4. Start ur TB and its ok Note: In my case the lightning calendar doesn't sync to google i reinstall my lightning and provider of google extension before it work. I think this is the 5th time i migrate my TB mail from windows xp to 7 to linux..

Server :: Dovecot IMAP And Subfolders - Mac's Mail Application And Thunderbird - Both Come Up With Error

Mar 18, 2010

I'm running Dovecot version dovecot-1.0.7 on CentOS 5.4. I'm trying to create subfolders and I can't. I've tried Mac's mail application and Thunderbird; they both come up with an error, basically saying that the server doesn't support level one folders(subfolders). Squirrelmail can't create subfolders neither. I did some reading and thought that perhaps the problem lies in the /etc/dovecot.conf file; specifically with the "mail_location" directive. I currently don't have that directive active which means Dovecot uses defaults settings: saving users' mail in the %u/mail folder. Is there any way to configure Dovecot to use subfolders?

OpenSUSE :: Failure Migrating Firefox And Thunderbird From 11.2 To 11.3

Sep 9, 2010

get my system from 11.2 to 11.3, I made a clean, new install instead of an upgrade. (I also used the opportunity to change to a new, bigger harddrive.) I installed Mozilla Thunderbird from the repositories and (using the root account) tried to replace the automatic entry in .thunderbird with my own cryptic-named folder which I copied in from external storage. I changed the target name in the profiles.ini to my folder's name. (I also made sure that although "root" did the copying, my main user is still the owner of all folders and files.)Same procedure for Firefox (except for the installation part).

I made the same kind of copying for the OpenOffice "user"-folder and Office came up with all my individual settings. But both Firefox and Thunderbird gave a failure notice, telling that "the program is already running, but does not react. In order to open a new window, you need to shutdown the existing process or restart your computer."(Original German: "Thunderbird wird bereits ausgefhrt, reagiert aber nicht. Um ein neues Fenster ffnen zu knnen, mssen Sie zuerst den bestehenden Thunderbird-Prozess beenden oder ihren Computer neu starten.")

I restarted the computer several times, but to no avail. (A similar (or the same) bug was reported two years ago, but it seems that no solution was reached [see ]Thunderbird lt sich nicht mehr starten - linuxforen.de -- User helfen Usern.)

I tried copying it there with the existing profile and changing the path of the ini file, to the windows profile name, this didn't work either. The only thing that I can think is that I am using 64 bit windows and 32 bit kubuntu.I have tried using firefox sync, this didn't work either.

Ubuntu Installation :: Migrating Wubi Install To Another Computer?

Jan 30, 2011

I've been using a wubi install of Ubuntu 10.10 for the past few months on my girlfriend's laptop, which has less hardware issues than my more recent laptop. Now that I'm a little more versed in Ubuntu, I'd like to transfer my Wubi install onto an actual partition on my laptop drive for a traditional dual boot.

Is this possible, and if anyone's done this before, would you be able to spare a few minutes and outline the process? I wouldn't know where to start and how to do things since I'm dealing more or less with a file system acting like a partition than an actual one.

I found the steps of migrating a Wubi install to partion via the Wubi Guide, but it seems those are steps for migrating a wubi install to a new partition on the same computer.

And if I try to send a e-mail, the authentication fails if I setup the account at the desktop email client to password requirement on.

But it works when I try it using a webmail client (Horde) and I receive the email. The old emails accounts work fine. The new accounts and old ones were created with Plesk.I find an entry with

/usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/mail_auth_view | grep teste@topdapop.com

I get no output from

General :: Possible To Route All Mails Sent To A Mailbox To Another Server's Mailbox

Jan 1, 2011

I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only.

For example, I may

# mail user1

To send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status.

I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

Fedora Installation :: Migrating Away From Gnome

Apr 13, 2011

I've been looking at Gnome 3 and the Gnome Shell and I don't like what I see. The Gnome devs are taking things in a direction I don't like, giving us new ways to do things that don't interest me and making them mandatory. AFAICT, in the long run there's no real way to configure things to work the way I've been doing things for the last fifteen years. This is not a rant, not (mostly) a complaint, merely an observation. Clearly, I'm not part of their target demographic and I doubt that I'd want to be under the circumstances.

To me, that means it's time for me to move on and try something different. After some careful research, I've migrated my laptop to XFCE and am very happy with it. Now, I'm about to do the same to my desktop. This leaves me with an interesting question: what's the best way to remove Gnome from my two machines without removing any support needed for various programs that I'm accustomed to using and expect to continue using?

CentOS 5 :: 5.5: Migrating Root (and Any Other) Partition From Ext3 To Ext4?

May 20, 2010

With the release of CentOS 5.5 ext4 is considered stable in this distribution so I decided to migrate to it. Luckily I started from migrating fresh server with CentOS 5.5 using some instruction I found on the internet. I think I shouldnt say, that I screwed the whole thing up ;) After about 6 hours cursing, kicking, and crying I solved the task and figured the correct sequence of actions. The small problem with migrating root partition is that you cant unmount it BTW.

During migration task, I found, that CentOS 5.5 rescue mode is somewhat broken a little in terms of ext4 support. It can mount ext4 partitions successfully. But its e2fsprogs package (tune2fs, e2fsck etc.) doesnt see ext4 partitions and say, that superblock is corrupted on a partition once is converted to ext4 (at least it did it for me. May be I should force filesystem type with -t ext4 switch?). Keep in mind, that if you screw your system up too badly, you will not be able to run tune2fs and e2fsck on it from rescue modeBut you will still able to mount it if it is not corrupted badly. In all below examples,Boot your system normally and login as root. Upgrade kernel if you wish (I usually use yum upgrade to upgrade all on new machines). Then upgrade/install some other packages

Ubuntu :: Transfer Local Folders For Thunderbird?

Sep 11, 2010

I have transferred many emails from my hotmail account to a local folder system using Thunderbird, only to realize that I really want them in another machine. (The first time I put them into a VM). So I installed thunderbird again, and copied the whole Mail folder from the first install into the default folder of the second. Now the new thunderbird sees the folders, but will not display their contents; I have checked that the permissions are the same in the two installs. Both installs will happily download new emails from my hotmail account, but I don't really know how to transfer BACK everything in thunderbird(1) to hotmail so that I could bring it back to thunderbird(2).
