View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only.
For example, I may
# mail user1
To send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status.
I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.
i want to be take the backup my evloution mail box in linux like outlook express in windows and how to restore it again
View 1 Replies View Relatedrunning squirrelmail, postfix and dovecot, I filter out mails which are spam into a spambox and non-spam into the inbox but by default, the user is not subscribed to the spambox and therefore, the spambox is not visible to the user, how can I make it such that each time a user is created he or she is automatically subscribed to the spambox?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm just getting started with postfix for the first time (using courier pop) and everything is working well. However I can't seem to figure out how to only allow some system users to have mailboxes?
For example I have a few accounts which are FTP only accounts but they still have mailboxes under postfix? Is there any way to tell postfix the accounts that I actually want mailboxes for?
Also on a side note, I notice that mail seems to be stored under the user's home directory. I'm scared they may accidentally delete them.
(We are running CyrusIMAP v2.3.16 on Slackware 13.1)The Problem:A user deleted a HUGE public Folder (>10000 Messages, >250 Subfolders), and now the Folder is in his "Trash" folder.Besides the obvious "Why did he have the access rights to do so in the first place??" question, I am honestly at a loss as to how the user did it:Trying to copy it back using Thunderbird failed utterly, TB crashes, or copies only a part, or nothing at all... (Tried 3.x on Windows and Linux Clients)So now I'm searching for a way to copy the folder back serverside. But web and manpages seem to offer few help:I don't want to move the folder to another partition, nor do I want to reconstruct or restore any corrupted data...All I want is to copy the folder from "user/USERNAME/Trash/HERE" back to "shared/archive/HERE".

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have setup mailrelay using postfix and relay email to exchange server. The problem is how can i relay email to multiple exchange server. For example: -
domain aa.bb.com relay to exchange server 10.10.10.10
domain 123.test.com relay to exchange server 192.168.10.5
I need to check my mailboxes for errors. My imapd has permanent errors, it periodically crashes. I think that the problem will be with some errors which was created when I converted my previous maildirs to mailboxes.
It is possible to check the integrity of these mailboxes with some command or script?
I started to use mailboxes instead of maildirs on my server. My server is with imapd on slackware.I found out that by Thunderbird I just cannot create sub-folders in my imap directory. My users used to manage their mails into hierarchically organized subfolders.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm looking into migrating postfix mailboxes and users from an old machine running Fedora5 to a new machine running cenOS. I was wondering, what would be the procedure to migrating over existing postfix mail to the new machine? Is it as simple as copying over /home directories and /etc/passwd etc?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWe're using sendmail with ldap routing. We've setup a new mailstore which some of our users are piloting.
We've been asked to configure sendmail to forward a copy of pilot users emails to the new mailstore (Zimbra) as well as the old (Sun Messaging).
I'm not exactly sure how to do this. I've tried modifying aliases to forward to 2 destinations, but ldap routing seems to take precedence before aliases.
How can i limit user to their mailbox in specific size.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi followed this tutorial to the "T", [URL]. I am not able to login to the mailboxes with squirrelmail, it says "connection dropped by imap server" I used the whole address as a login just like it said to do. I can sucessfully authenticate with outlook express but it throws an error that say's [URL], no such file or directory. i can telnet into it remotely but when i type ehlo [URL] it just keeps showing all the 250 lines and wont let me generate a message.
from what i saw on the comments on the tutorial and googling there are many other people with this problem, however i found no solutions. This is fresh work and i have not touched any config files since finishing the tutorial
I'm running Postfix in slackware 12.1. The mails are stored in /var/spool/mail/username. When a user's mailbox size got more than 200MB, the user can't check their mail. when it happend the log shows:

i'm searching for an encrypted backup solution for dial-up users. I'm already using duply (duplicity), but it's not really the right software for a large backup and a slow connection. Every x month a new full backup is needed, and that's really slow.Is there better system for that? A file based encrypted system would be nice, so it's not needed to reupload every large file.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI want to backup all the data in my /home folder/partition (before upgrading).
1. In How to migrate to a new openSUSE version - openSUSE it is only written how to backup *one* users data.
If you know the path to your external harddisk, just open a konsole and do:
Code:
$ su
1. cd /home
2. cp -b -vvv username_to_be_backed_up /media/<folder_of_your_external_harddisk>
How can I backup *all* users' data in one folder "home-double"?
2. Has the external disk have to have any special file system?
I have an 500 GB disk in fat with some data already on it. Can this be used? Or do I have to make an new (ext3?) partition on my external hard disk to preserve permissions? Do I have to worry about big files under FAT?
3. Should I make anything to get sure that all data is the same in "home-double" as in "/home"?
Now I am using (on my Samsung X20) openSuse 11.1 and Gnome 2.24.1 (mostly, 1 account is using KDE) and Kernel Linux 2.6.27.45-01.1-pae. "/home" is on an separated partition (as part of an extended partition). I have also 2 NTFS partitions for Windows XP (System and Data), and a FAT, a root (/) and a swarp partition.
I install and tested Restore EE Backup server on a test PC with basic configuration and its working fine.

The issue i have is where is the location these backup snapshots or files are saving? I want to add a separate Storage to save the backup?
Does anyone know of any decent enterprise level backup solutions for Linux? I need to backup a few servers and a bunch of desktops onto one backup server. Using rsync/tar.gz won't cut it. I need like bi-monthly full HDD backups, and things such as that, with a nice GUI interface to add/remove systems from the backup list. I need basically something similar to CommVault or Veritas. Veritas I've used before but it has its issues, such as leaving 30GB cache files. CommVault, I have no idea how much it is, and if it supports backing up to a hard drive rather than tape.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI would like a pointer to a script or utility I could use to enable me to backup all users on my current installed system and then use this data to automatically setup all these users on another system (could be a fresh installed system) basically port all users. additional features that would be nice to have
-backup passwords
-home directory or more specifically www web directory
-database backup.
script which can add a secondary group to all existing users except system users in linux.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed a linux server in my office to run 16 machines. Its main use will be a internal mail server but will be also running websites.
I have installed Ubuntu 9.10 server x64 and have got apache running.
I am looking for the simplest more robust solution for smtp, pop3 and imap. I have only ever used qmail before and found it a pain to configure and its getting old so I though I should probably try something new. I have not much experience with running pop3 or imap on linux so would love a suggestion on that.
I have inherited a RedHat 5.4 server that is having an odd issue. Root and all of the user accounts can log in via SSH. Not a single account can log in via the console (sitting in front of the server). If I bring it up in single user made, I can log in with root all day long.
I want to say that this has something to do with PAM, but this is when I play my "Noob" card. Could anyone possibly steer me in the right direction to figure out what is going on?
iam trying to sync file server data into backup server machine by command- rsync -avu path/of/data ipaddress-of-backup-server:/path/where/to/save after running it ask for root password and manually it is successful.but i want to make it automatic.for that i also tried cronjob and also generated authentication key but iam not successful in login automatically..anybody know how to authenticate root to login for storing data in backup server.

I currently have a centos 4.4 I believe running with a 250GB hard drive. I want to make an image of that hard drive. I have tried removing the drive and connecting it to my windows pc using an adapter that would allow my windows machine run the hard drive as it was a regular external hard drive. Of course windows doesn't reconize that drive since it is linux partitioned. I am thinking that I need to have the hard drive inthe box I am wanting to copy and put in a blank drive in the box that I want to copy to. And boot from a live CD and use cat or dd to copy it. I have seen the commands before bust I am thinking this is the only way. Basically I am wanting to have a duplicate of the drive and build a whole new server that is already all setup.I will just change the host name and assign it another Public facing UP. Is this correct? Oh, and the new server will have different hardware. Might even be AMD or intel different from source or destination.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI'd like to know what solutions do you, people, use to backup a live system that acts as a small home mail/file/irc/web server and some other purposes. For example, right now, to backup the mail, I have to stop fetchmail, kill vixie-cron to avoid any problem and then do the backup. Then restart vixie-cron.I wonder if there's any solution that will leave me do the backup without all this hassle.
