Ubuntu Networking :: OpenVPN (IP Config Get) Timeout Exceeded

General :: Possible To Route All Mails Sent To A Mailbox To Another Server's Mailbox

Jan 1, 2011

I have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only.

For example, I may

# mail user1

To send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status.

I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.

Software :: CyrusIMAP: Move Mailbox Subfolders To Another Mailbox, Serverside?

May 26, 2011

(We are running CyrusIMAP v2.3.16 on Slackware 13.1)The Problem:A user deleted a HUGE public Folder (>10000 Messages, >250 Subfolders), and now the Folder is in his "Trash" folder.Besides the obvious "Why did he have the access rights to do so in the first place??" question, I am honestly at a loss as to how the user did it:Trying to copy it back using Thunderbird failed utterly, TB crashes, or copies only a part, or nothing at all... (Tried 3.x on Windows and Linux Clients)So now I'm searching for a way to copy the folder back serverside. But web and manpages seem to offer few help:I don't want to move the folder to another partition, nor do I want to reconstruct or restore any corrupted data...All I want is to copy the folder from "user/USERNAME/Trash/HERE" back to "shared/archive/HERE".

General :: Manually Forcing TCP Connection To Retry ?

Jun 9, 2010

I have a TCP connection (SSH session to some computer for example) Network suddenly goes down and drops all packets (disconnected cable, out of range). TCP resends packets again and again, retrying with increasing delays. I see the problem and plug the cable back (or restore network somehow). TCP connection finally successfully resends some packet and continues.

The problem is that I need to wait for a some timeout on point 5. I want to use my opened SSH session now and not wait for 5-10 seconds until it finds out that connection is working again.

How to force all TCP connections to resend data without delays in GNU/Linux?

Ubuntu Installation :: No Boot Sector - Hit F1 To Retry

May 11, 2010

I have a rather puzzling error. I recently purchased an usb external hard drive with the intent of installing Ubuntu on it. I have had great success with installing various linux flavors on usb thumb drives but I need a little larger space for engineering applications that I use. Anyway, I removed my laptop's internal hard drive and installed ubuntu 9.10 on a recently formated external hard drive. Everything worked fine at first. Upon restarting I get an error that says "no boot sector" and it asks to hit either f1 to retry. When I hit retry, Grub loads most of the time. Occasionally it does not work. Is Grub just not installing correctly? I searched for this error but I found nothing that directly applied.

Networking :: Redhat Does Not Retry Renewing DHCP Lease More Than Once?

Apr 23, 2010

We have 20+ Redhat servers on our network and every so often our DHCP server goes down. When it comes back up we have to go around to all of our RedHat servers and restart networking manually. Other OS's (Ubuntu, Windows, etc..) will continually try to get a DHCP lease so that when our DHCP does come back up it requires no work from us for them to get back on the network. But it seems that Redhat only tries once and if it fails it never tries again. Have to go around to 20 different servers (some of them are at remote locations) is less then ideal when this happens. how we can get Redhat to continually try to get a DHCP lease like other OS's?

Networking :: Set ICMP TTL Exceeded Host?

Feb 20, 2011

Is there a way to set the IP that's returned in an ICMP TTL exceeded packet? Reason I ask is I have an edge router with several upstreams, and several downstream routers, and when I traceroute to it I would like only one of it's IP's to show up in the trace (Instead of each . Much like some of the larger ISP's do to mask the IP and hostname of their internal routers.. Is this possible?

Why is it telling me that my hard drive cylinder head count isn't supported by bios when I've been using this hard drive with this bios for over a year? I mean Linux is booting off the hard drive this is supposedly unsorted apparently and managing telling me is unsupported... so it can't be that unsupported now can it? Sounds more like linux trying to blame bios for linux's problem.

Fedora :: Thunderbird 3.1.10 X64 - You May Have Exceeded You Maximum Connections

May 3, 2010

I upgraded to FC15 in early june, come June 15 Thunderbird suddenly ceases to send or receive any email. It pops up with the message "You may have exceeded you maximum connections" and I've tried changing the cache connection count to 1 instead of the default 5 and every OTHER post about that error suggests to no avail. Funny thing, my primary desktop is still on FC13, same thunderbird version, arch and account setup (with SSL enabled) and works flawlessly. Even with -safe-mode enabled it doesn't work. My lightning calendar also doesn't sync since then.

I have found that if I turn SSL off IMAP works again, SSL SMTP still fails. If I turn SMTP SSL off it sends mail. The calendar is an https (SSL) link. Obviously the issue is SSL and Thunderbird in FC15. There are no errors/messages in the console, maillog or the in-built error console.I will NOT use mail without SSL as I may occasionally use unencrypted WiFi.

Server :: Disk Quota (Exceeded But Unable To Restrict)

Jun 17, 2010

I installed Diskquota on CentOS 5.1 machine. I enabled quota for some user with 1 GB as both hard and soft limits, Grace period is 0. Every this is working fine if we work from normal user's login say (user1 who is a system user). If he exceeds 1GB its will restrict that saying quota exceeded. But, If root user copies some 500MB files into his workspace, and change the ownership of those files using following command
chown user1.user1 * ( * is 500 MB files).

Then quota is exceeded and it is showed using:
repquota /home
user1 +- 2039960 997020 997020 none 298 0 0
Here its showing as some 2GB.
Soft limit is 951 MB.

So, my problem is restrict quota from all possible ways, i.e., even if root does some copying and change permissions, it must tell that disc quota exceeded.

General :: Get Ping Timeout Below 1 Second?

I have a web application that runs through thousands of IP addresses and checks if they're online. Basically, if a server uses more than 250ms to respond, it's considered offline in our case. It would be an enormous timesaver if we could get the ping command to give up after about 300 ms, instead of what seems to be the minimum value of the -W parameter, 1 second.

General :: How To Change Inactivity Timeout

Mar 26, 2010

Running openSUSE 11.2 with Gnome. After a relatively short period of time, screen goes blank, and when I click on it, I get presented with password prompt, and when I enter it, I'm back where I left off. I don't see how to change this, and all the time I've spent so far in YaST trying to find out where this setting is kept and how to change it has been wasted effort. So now I'm asking: how do you change this to something a little more reasonable?

I'm taking an online SuSE LINUX class, and as they cover different topics, I jump over to the Linux system (which I have running in a vm under VMWare server on W2K3) and try stuff out, and most of the time I have to enter my password because I was away too long.
