View 2 Repliesim using postfix with amavis and spamassassin as spam/virus filtering and its working great. However, i get a "lot"(1-5/day) of "bad header" messages beeing quarantined by the server. And most of theese bad headers are false positives that i manually have to deliver to the correct mailbox. How can i make amavis/spamassassin deliver bad header messages to the correct mailbox and not place them in quarantine?Theese are my amavis settings. (which file is used, 20-debian or 21-ubuntu??)
View 8 Replies View RelatedSome mail coming to my postfix server will need to be delivered local and the rest to an internal mail server.
The internal mail server is mail.example.com where there is no bob@example.com but there is a sam@example.com.
Is it possible to configure postfix to do this?
I am a first timer in setting up a mail server. As I heard that Postfix is a very simple mail server to configure I decided to use it on the same server where we have our squid. It seems that it is really simple enough because immediately after configuring,I can send and receive internal e-mails and send external emails. As I replied to the external emails that I received myself I found out that all of them just landed on the mail queue and this is where my problem starts. I cannot make Postfix deliver the messages to my outlook mailbox. By the way, I am sending the emails the through outlook also.
View 109 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to setup postfix (or exim, I don't mind which), so I can move away my last remaining PC from Windows.I've tinkered with Postfix for good part of a month and I can get it to accept emails using SMTP and post them to a virtual mailbox based on MySQL tables. And it rejects mail addressed to local email addresses that it can't find in the table.
First question (or problem.) I've set up Postfix to relay email it cannot deliver locally such as is the case when you send out an email. My remote host requires authentication. How can I set this up?
Second question: I want to force my clients to use either AUTH, TLS or SSL, and not allow anonymous connections (to prevent an open relay server.) How do I set that up without interfering with the smarthost setting? The smarthost login is not one of my clients, it's a pre-determined login and password that is solely used for the email relaying aspect.
I got a weird postfix setup question? This is a separate server to the one I posted about earlier today.
I need to setup a postfix server which will accept emails for local know address (full addresses) and deliver them straight to the users maildir.
Any unknown addresses (however for the same domain), needs to be relayed to another server.
This is a bit of a special setup as there is no fixed Internet connection to the server. So the plan is that local email get delivered straight away whilst emails to the same @domain, but that doesn't exist in the user tables get put in the hold queue and is later relayed to server number 2 when a connection is available.
I am using mysql to retrieve all my settings into postfix.
EDIT: Change the topic, see post #3
I've been following this guide: http://flurdy.com/docs/postfix/
And done the points up to "Advanced mail server" and are trying to test mailing mail@mydomain.com to mail@mydomain.com (yes, the same inbox) using Thunderbird, through my own DNS, from the server.
But I get the following error: The message can not be sent because the connection to SMTP server mydomain.com timed out.
And when I check /var/spool/mail/virtual where the mailboxes are supposed to be stored there are none.
So I'm wondering how I create a mailbox with postfix.
I can add that I am quite a noob at linux but have to do this in a school project.
I'm using ubuntu server 10.04 32bit with GUI (yes I know, I know)
I'm looking into migrating postfix mailboxes and users from an old machine running Fedora5 to a new machine running cenOS. I was wondering, what would be the procedure to migrating over existing postfix mail to the new machine? Is it as simple as copying over /home directories and /etc/passwd etc?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm just getting started with postfix for the first time (using courier pop) and everything is working well. However I can't seem to figure out how to only allow some system users to have mailboxes?
For example I have a few accounts which are FTP only accounts but they still have mailboxes under postfix? Is there any way to tell postfix the accounts that I actually want mailboxes for?
Also on a side note, I notice that mail seems to be stored under the user's home directory. I'm scared they may accidentally delete them.
i followed this tutorial to the "T", [URL]. I am not able to login to the mailboxes with squirrelmail, it says "connection dropped by imap server" I used the whole address as a login just like it said to do. I can sucessfully authenticate with outlook express but it throws an error that say's [URL], no such file or directory. i can telnet into it remotely but when i type ehlo [URL] it just keeps showing all the 250 lines and wont let me generate a message.
from what i saw on the comments on the tutorial and googling there are many other people with this problem, however i found no solutions. This is fresh work and i have not touched any config files since finishing the tutorial
I'm running Postfix in slackware 12.1. The mails are stored in /var/spool/mail/username. When a user's mailbox size got more than 200MB, the user can't check their mail. when it happend the log shows:
Apr 4 10:04:11 ns1 popa3d[2391]: Authentication passed for userX
Apr 4 10:04:11 ns1 popa3d[2391]: Failed or refused to load /var/spool/mail/userX
I setup a postfix mail server. Tested it to make sure it was secure and all seemed good.I sent some test messages and see from the logs that mail is being delivered to the recipient. its only delivering mail to my user's local mbox on the linux server. IMAP appears to have its own mailbox and the two boxes are no linked. I was thinking it was an alias issue however I did at one point have the mailboxes to be the same.... now they are different... Here is the config file.... (I changed the domain names for privacy).
command_directory = /usr/sbin
daemon_directory = /usr/libexec/postfix
data_directory = /var/lib/postfix

i have setup mailrelay using postfix and relay email to exchange server. The problem is how can i relay email to multiple exchange server. For example: -
domain aa.bb.com relay to exchange server 10.10.10.10
domain 123.test.com relay to exchange server 192.168.10.5
(We are running CyrusIMAP v2.3.16 on Slackware 13.1)The Problem:A user deleted a HUGE public Folder (>10000 Messages, >250 Subfolders), and now the Folder is in his "Trash" folder.Besides the obvious "Why did he have the access rights to do so in the first place??" question, I am honestly at a loss as to how the user did it:Trying to copy it back using Thunderbird failed utterly, TB crashes, or copies only a part, or nothing at all... (Tried 3.x on Windows and Linux Clients)So now I'm searching for a way to copy the folder back serverside. But web and manpages seem to offer few help:I don't want to move the folder to another partition, nor do I want to reconstruct or restore any corrupted data...All I want is to copy the folder from "user/USERNAME/Trash/HERE" back to "shared/archive/HERE".
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Linux server that has local mail service. There are few user accounts on this server. User may send the mail to each other but that only restrict to LAN environment only.
For example, I may
# mail user1
To send mail to user1. User are not able to send mail to public. Some service like hylafax using this local mail service to send notification of fax status.
I don't want to manage and maintain local mail service anymore. I have subscribed a package from ISP to host a public domain of my own. I wish to have my hylafax service to able to send the notification mails to public mail server, is that possible to do it? It is great if all mails that send to local mail server may forward to public mail server. That makes the local mail service serve mail forward only.
I've setup my server by following a ton of goods, and it seems to work ok, but I need to start using my server for email in order to receive orders placed via my website. I've followed this guide - [URL] I followed the steps above, and tested the mail server via telnet, and all seemed to be ok. I tried sending an email via Squirrelmail, from cs@thinclientwarehouse.co.uk TO my working email simon@c1systems.co.uk, but the server returned with the following message:
<simon@c1systems.co.uk>: host mail.c1systems.co.uk[95.128.128.129] said: 550-Verification failed for <cs@localhost.thinclientwarehouse.co.uk> 550-The mail server could not deliver mail to cs@localhost.thinclientwarehouse.co.uk. Here is what i do: make clean make makefiles CCARGS='-DEF_CONFIG_DIR="/opt/product/postfix-2.6.5/etc"

-DEF_DATA_DIR="/opt/product/postfix-2.6.5/lib"

make install then i got this error: postfix: fatal: chdir(/usr/libexec/postfix): No such file or directory make: *** [install] Error 1 I don't understand why it's checking the usr/libexec folder for the daemons although I've set the folder to /opt/product/postfix-2.6.5/libexec in the makefile. This is what I would like to do:
- Deliver a number of configuration files via rpm.
Why? Because we use RedHat and it is easier to put them in a repo an keep versions of it.I have looked for manuals/turorials about rpmbuild but it is all centred around buiding rpms from source, or tarballs, in order to deliver a program.I just want to deliver configuration files.I know, I could do that with satellite or spacewalk, but they are not an option, plus I want to keep it simple.I have the spec file too. What I don't understand is:In which dir should I put the files I would like to pack? What sections of the spec file should I fill in, as not all apply?

Is there an open source application that can download e-mails from a generic POP mail server, keep a copy of the mails locally and then deliver copies to multiple accounts on a LAN? I have a friend who uses a group e-mail account, and more than one person is always hooked onto that account. The problem is they cannot leave e-mail on the server, as it eats out their webhosting space, but if someone downloads a message in Outlook, the other users do not see that message.

I realize that this is most likely due to a misconfiguration with how my email has been set up.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI use an application that encapsulates IPv4 packets in an IPv4 tunnel using the TUN/TAP driver in Linux. There is a fancy protocol used between the 2 layers. This software works like a charm.
I have started modifying the source code in order to send IPv6 packets in an IPv4 tunnel. So far, the software seems to work fine but the information (packets) does not seem to make their way back to the user space.
I initiate an ICMPv6 packet with ping6. It gets in the tun0 interface. The software makes the IPv4 encapsulation and sends the information out of the system. The ICMPv6 echo reply comes back to the system with the corresponding encapsulation. The software removes the encapsulation and writes the packet in the tun0 interface. The ping6 application never receives ICMPv6 echo reply.
I have confirmed the integrity of the transaction using tcpdump on the tun0 interface. The interface comes up with the "inet 6 addr" only. The interface has the flags "UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING". The RX/TX counters are incrementing and no drops are observed at the interface level.
How can I troubleshoot this problem? There seems to be a lost link between the tun0 driver and the user space applications. The system uses SuSE Linux Enterprise 10 SP1. This is based on kernel 2.6.16. This is quite old.
is there any HOWTO for configuring Webmin Postfix server with multiple postfix virtual hosts? Seems to be a tough challenge to set it up without any easy manual..
View 1 Replies View Relatedso i set out to change the default smtp port the server uses because my ISP blocks port 25 and i need the email to work in outlook. this morning i could receive email, but not send it. so i did some research and thought that i needed to edit the master.cf file in /etc/postfix/ by commenting out this line: smtp inet n - n - - smtpd -oand replace it with587 inet n - n - - smtpd (587 being the port i want to use)somewhere along the lines postfix server stopped running and now i cannot get it to start.if i try using SSH it crashes immediately and if i restart it in simple control panel nothing happens
View 7 Replies View RelatedI recently moved over user from an old box running postfix(v 2.0.16) over to rhel 6 running postfix (v mail_version = 2.6.6). ive tried to make sure all the files are of correct permissions and that the main.cf file is configured corectly. However there is something wrong as when i run postfix: service postfix server i get no error but when checking the status:service postfix status i get: master dead but pid file exists Looking into /var/log/mailog i find this line being the issue:
Feb 25 16:24:39 puny1 postfix/master[3517]: fatal: fifo_listen: create fifo public/pickup: Permission denied
I gather this is a file permission issue and ive tried to make sure the public folder in /var/spool/postfix is correctly set but still no avail.
