I am in the process of installing Ubuntu 10.04 on another laptop, one that originally had Win. 95 on it. I had read that the Cisci 350 series lan card was not recognized by Ubuntu. This is the same card I used on the same laptop I am installing Ubuntu 10.4 on. Anything I should know?Or maybe I should just wait and see if it is recognized/works.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried to solve this off and on for a few months, but I just can't.I am a windows engineer but wanted to expand my knowledge to Linux.I deperately have tried to get WIFI working but it just wont connect.I am using Ubuntu 9.04 as 9.10 was a problem with video driver.Initially after build I could see my network on the list, but it was greyed out.After trying a few things on the forum I have now installed a windows driver using ndisgtk which now means I can choose my wireless network from the list.Although it does seem to try with the connecting message and asks for the password, it just doesn't connect on.
Things that may be of use am using WPA/WPA2 hardware of machine is IBM Thinkpad T30 (not one of there better models)I work from home and my work machine is working fine, along with all the other wireless kit in the house, it's just this machine.
Does anyone have a driver for Cisco Aironet PCMCIA AIR-CB21AG-A-K9 wireless adapter that works with Ubuntu 11.04? Ubuntu does not see the card when plugged into the PCMCIA slot. I thought that if Ubuntu had a driver installed, it would pick up the device.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm setting up my first Linux laptop with Ubuntu 11.04 and my CB21ag wireless card works, but won't achieve speeds over 11Mbps (maybe not "doing 802.11g rates for some reason?) I guess this cardbus card is manufactured by Atheros for Cisco so I maybe that's why I'm seeing two wireless connections - the one with the "airo" driver gives me 11mbps, the other with the ATH driver would only get me 1mbps so I deleted that. The card seems to disconnect/reconnect periodically too - messages pop up frmo the wireless icon ...
lsmod says "airo" and "ath5k" are loaded
So to get 54Mbps (802.11g speed) I'm wondering if theres maybe a different driver module for the CB21ag card or some configuration I need to tweak. More info - security is static WEP, lshw -C network returns some "wierdness" about network 0 ?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm very new to Linux and have recently installed Debian Squeeze on my pc. I'm trying to install the Nvidia package as the system has a XFX 9 series card installed. I'm unable to get stop X to complete package installation. I keep getting permission denied when I run the command /etc/init.d/gdm stop. After reviewing a few forums I also log in as root to the console and tried the command there as well. I'm still getting the permission denied response. Can anyone advise on how to get around this?

I'm planning my next desktop build (currently only have a laptop that is falling apart), and one of the features I'm really looking forward to is multiple monitors. I'm thinking a 1920x1200 center monitor and two 1600x1200 on either side, but I'm not decided just yet. I don't know if I really need that resolution.
I have a few specific questions though. The only time I've ever messed with multiple monitors is way back when I had Windows, so I'm not sure what to expect on Ubuntu.
1: What is the best Graphics card brand/series to use? I've seen that ATI has more powerful hardware than nVidia for the same price range, but nVidia seems to support Linux better. I'm using an ATI card in my laptop now and have never had any problems with it (with either open source or proprietary drives, other than open source drivers didn't do well with 3d). I would also like these GPUs to be running F@H while I'm away, so GFLOPS is just important as gaming performance.
2: Since I want to use 3 monitors, I assume I should get 3 of the same graphics card or a card with 3 identical outputs (do those exist?).
Or can this be done some other way. For example, a more powerful card for the center monitor, and less powerful cards for the other two. Do those need to be the same brand, or could I use, for example, ATI and nVidia cards on the same desktop simultaneously?
3: Is it possible to have a virtual console on one monitor with a desktop on the other two, or do I need to set up a terminal on the desktop to use that monitor?
4: How can I run fullscreen SDL games with multiple monitors? Will it only show on one screen or stretch across them all? Is it possible to have a fullscreen game running on one monitor with the desktop visible on the others? How would the mouse focus work with that? Or does it just all depend on how I setup the monitors?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm having trouble getting X to work after switching from onboard intel video to a 5000 series ATI card. Apparently I need to switch to a MESA or fglrx driver. I did a sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver and it installed but still no X. I'm currently using Karmic. I've tried to boot with a live CD which works fine and changed the xorg file manual but that was a mess.
When I start I get a checking battery state ... done and it stays there forever sometimes and sometimes I can login but without x. Typing startx gives me a long list that says check the xorg website. I've been looking around for a way to fix this and haven't been able to get it working.
I have a problem with the latest Fedora. Installed it cleanly on a machine with Gigabyte H55M-S2 with Intel Core i3. There seems to be no sound and I checked to see if anything is muted but is not. The manual says that the sound chip is ALC888B so this could be the first problem. Any ide how I can make it work? Here is a dump of some things on my system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running fedora 11 and cisco version 4.8.01 (0640). When I connect to my work, and get authenticated, the system freezes completely. In searching it looks like at one point updating the kernel to a new version resolved this, at least for the 64bit implementation. I'm running 32bit and I'm on kernel kernel-PAE-2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686 which is a newer version then what was listed in the other thread.

I am trying to configure and connect Cisco VPN on Ubuntu 10.04. I've imported .pcf file. The new vpn conn appears in the VPN Connections option. Now when I select it, it doesn't connect. Nothing happens. I am not able to connect to VPN at all. I tried using kvpnc as well but it didn't work either.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two network interface eth0 and eth1 eth0 is on 192.168.0/24 network connected to the internet eth1 is on 10.10.10/24 network and DHCP for this network the clients connected to this interface can not connect to the internet but they can ping 192.168.0.4 which is the eth0 ip but can not ping 192.168.0.1 cisco router or anything else on 192.168.0/24 I have tried few tricks but still not working
1) iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 10.10.10.0/24 -o eth0 j SNAT --to 192.168.0.4/24 it did not work
2) iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth1 -j SNAT --to 192.168.0.4 did not work as well

The queston is at which point during the startup to run "vpnagent_init" script. I thought to add a call to rc.locale.
View 1 Replies View RelatedCisco vpn client would freeze the system. The only way to recover is to do a hard reset. The funny thing is I had it working before, so it may be random. However, it just happened 3 times in a row and I haven't tried again. I'll try again tonight. I'm pretty sure I'm running the latest client for 64bit linux systems. I'll confirm that when I get a chance, as well as my kernel.

Upon opening the site I was asked to run a Java application, which installed a Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on the system. However, now I do not need this, but I cannot find a way to uninstall it. It does not appear in the Synaptic Manager or the the ubuntu Software centre, so I cannot find the package to uninstall it. The software does appear in the 'Internet' section in the Application drop down menu and runs without the need of Firefox. I read the Cisco release notes but I could not find a way to uninstall the software.

The problem I have is that once I join my company vpn, I have full access to corporate services confluence, jira, servers, etc. However when I use firefox to try and resolve a jira and post a body of text the connection timesout.
If i use any other browser it works fine, if slow, if i transition workflows it works fine, and if i use windows and firefox with the same cisco client it works fine.
This appears to be a specific issue with Firefox. I have noticed that in general firefox is slower on ubuntu than on any other platform.
Any updated guides anyone know of that works with Ubuntu 10.10 to get Cisco VPN Client (not Anyconnect) working with the latest version of Ubuntu?
